“Top Notch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We arrived at the Round House in Bogles Carriacou late evening and were greeted by Carmesha and a friendly greeting it was.
From then on things only got better, our cottage was clean there were enough towels and the staff Stephanie, Carmesha & Elisha could not do enough to make our stay over-pleasant. (I think these three ladies actually angels in disguise)

They were very attentive, asking daily if we needed room service, linen, towels or the cottage cleaned. Our laundry was washed and came back dried and folded for a small charge.
My daughter and I shared a bed that had all round mosquito netting and a ceiling fan directly above us, my son had a single bed also with mosquito net and a stand free fan.
I didn’t really get bitten much but I am very heavy on the citronella (spay, candles, incense sticks)
Each morning we had breakfast that consisted of fresh local fruit, freshly made juice, choice of two/three cereals, toast with nutmeg or guava jam, tea/coffee. We did bring our own cereal only because I have fussy kids but it really is not necessary.
The beach is a stone throw from the cottage and you can use the kayaks whenever you want to. It’s advisable to wear footwear that you keep on your feet in the water as this is a stony beach, the water is heavenly and once in you won’t want to get out.

Staying at the roundhouse was like being with extended family, Roxanne her husband, sister and brother in law as well as her parents were all welcoming and friendly not forgetting Tom & Albert two pet dogs who welcomed us home every evening.

I had other family on the island from the UK and the USA who were also made to feel at home when they came and spent time at the cottage.

Free Wi-Fi a godsend my whole family took advantage of this perk.
It’s hard to find fault with the roundhouse, my one complaint would be dog poo outside the cottage which I have a strong aversion to because it attracts flies, a couple of times it was cleared up fairly quickly. (Sorry Tom & Albert, I know you have to go somewhere just not under our cottage window)

I would also recommend some sun loungers on the main lawn.
I would most defiantly stay here again and would also recommend the ROUND HOUSE at BOGLES.

“All we had hoped for and more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

My wife and I spent an amazing two weeks at Bogles Roundhouse in late March-early April 2011. It was all we had hoped for, and more. The cottages are simple but quite adequate. We were in the Mango which is closest to the water and has a full view of the small, well kept lawn and most important of the ocean which is just a 30 second walk down a flight of concrete stairs. At the bottom of the stairs is a very nice beach which we usually had to ourselves. The water was a bit rough during our stay but the crashing waves put us to sleep at night and were fun to play in during the day. Each evening we were treated to yet another breathtaking sunset which we watched from the cottage porch. Cottages contain everything you need and include a nice little kitchen, fully stocked with cooking utensiles. On the nights when the restaurnat was closed, we cooked here and ate on the porch under the stars.

Life is very simple at the Roundhouse and definately not for those looking for a nightlife other than what is provided by fire flies and a sky full of stars accompanied by the cheeps of ghecos. We had rented a jeep for our stay but seldom used it other than to go to town for provisions and yet another bottle of rum. Why leave when what you have is already perfect. Our days fell into a natural rhythum of walking the beach, floating in the water, snoozing and of course eating.

Speaking of eating, the best part of Bogles Roundhouse is the food at the Roundhouse. Roxanne (owner) is an amazing award winning chef and each meal was better than the last. She and her staff take huge pride in what they do. On one memorable night, we had freshly caught seared yellow fin tuna served over scalloped potatoes with all the trimmings. It was easily the best meal I have ever eaten and it will never be forgotten. The Roundhouse itself is an amazing structure that oozes ambiance and deserves a visit just to experience it.

We especially enjoyed the company of the 2 huge black labs that belong to the property. Tom and Albert spent many happy hours with us on the beach or just lounging on the cool tile floors of the cottage and deck during the heat of the day.

Everyone was so nice and so helpful. Accomodation was perfect for our needs. The food was to die for and there wasn't a casino or golf course to be found on the island. For our tastes it was as close to heaven as you can get and we can't wait to go back again.

“Greta Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

I stayed at the round house for 8 nights. Great food, the cottages are simple but very clean and comfortable. Roxanne was really helpful and the staff took great care of us.
Carriacou is a lovely island, definitely laid back and will be back for sure.

“remote pretty location, terrible service”

Good things: in attractive gardens, by beach, not expensive
Bad things:
- famed for its restaurant but, although we booked room months ahead, when we arrived were told restaurant closed for our stay; nearest alternative a taxi ride away; and by the way, no maid service either as she has mid-week off!
- rooms very basic
- remote, great for an away-from-it-all-holiday!
One member of staff (out of a total of three) was helpful & charming, but there was a total absence of any management to provide even a minimum level of service.

“Nice restaurant BUT be aware of the accomodation!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

We were there for 6 nights and we had high expectations as the reviews were very good.
First of all let us start with the positive side.
We tried the restaurant one evening. It is good (but not outstanding). Not cheap.
Service was good as the owner Phil was very nice and looked after us.
The location is good as it is 35 minute walk from Hillsborough or a very short bus ride (very cheap fare). Having breakfast looking at the crashing waves is very nice and very relaxing.
You have free wi-fi which is very handy these days.
Now, let us describe the NOT so good aspects.
We arrived late (after 9pm) with the ferry from Grenada on Tuesday. The restaurant is closed that night so we had not much too eat. The only solution to it would have been to get a taxi and go on the other side of the island. Feasible but not ideal after a long ferry trip. I think it would have been nice for the owners to advise us that Tuesday was their close-day...so we cold have brought some food with us.
The owners welcome was nice from the Phil side, NON-EXISTENT from Roxanne side who we saw for the 1st time the 3rd day of our stay and she did not even say "welcome". This is quite surprising as people in Carriacou are extremely polite and friendly!
The cottage (we staid in mango) is ...VERY BASIC but sometimes I would say even too basic. The kitchen area is small, the 2 fire hub is very old (but it works) and rusty. Utensils are very basic and some do not work: the can opener does not work and you have to borrow the only one that the restaurant has! there is no sieve, no toaster and the kettle has a 2 pin plug when Carriacou is on 3 UK-pin-type plug! Only 3 big plates, 2 glasses, 2 cups. So it is all down to bare minimum!
The table, the only table, is tiny and quite awkward when you dine on it as it leans on one side.
The bathroom is very basic (but clean), the loo cover is broken.
The bed: the mattress is a foamy type one. not very comfortable as I think it is quite old. It sinks as you lie on it. The first set of sheets we had had the mattress sheet ripped..so I basically slept on the mattress! the second set of sheets had marks all over, blood like marks! We asked for a change and also the second set was stained. Very thin and worn too.
Noise: if you are a light sleeper do not go there as they waves are very noisy. The sandy bottom is shallow and waves crashes a lot there.
Breakfast: I did say that the settings are lovely as you listen to the sea and look at the garden but service could be a bit happier. The lady serving breakfast is not very happy. She eventually managed to smile at us and maybe she was never upset with us, maybe she is a very quiet person,. but it took her a while to ask us how we were doing! I think customer service is quite important and we felt a bit "left alone" on this one.
Dogs: if you like dogs it is all very well. The owners have 2 big dogs that barks a lot and cry a lot if the owners are away. Luckily they are quiet at night. Unluckily they are allowed in the restaurant (not sure about the kitchen area) and they poo everywhere in the garden so you have to watch your steps when you walk around. Every now and then somebody clean the poo luckily.
A little nuisance was about the stone slabs that lead you from the restaurant to the mango cottage: 2 slabs are missing near the cottage and you have only soil there to walk on (no grass). You get muddy feet very easily.
Light in the cottage: the lighting is very poor. You can't see much in the kitchen and almost nothing in the bathroom. the shower is in the dark!
Mosquito net on the bed and on the windows: ripped in several places.
Last day: the owners left in the morning to go on a boat trip. They did not say much to us. Phil told us "bye", Roxanne said nothing and gave us the dinner bill! No thank you, nothing!
Price: for 6 nights we paid 582US dollars. 97dollars per night. This is definitely very expensive for what you get. we were quoted 100 dollar more in another accommodation in Carriacou that has much more to offer. We paid 693$ US for 8 night in Grenada in a wonderful apartment (Woburn Villas, go for it!!), spacious, with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, 2 bedrooms and bathrooms!

So in conclusion, try the restaurant, avoid the accommodation..unless you like an overpriced basic one!
