Although I´ve travelled to many islands in the Caribbean this was my first visit to Carriacou – and I loved it. It´s incredibly laid back and relaxed and the people are really lovely. I spent 4 days on the island and stayed at the Green Roof Inn - and I reckon I made a very good choice. The location is beautiful – perched on the cliff side a mere 10 minute walk from Hillsborough and with stunning views over the bay. And Jonas, the owner, and his staff were very friendly and helpful, and always there if you needed information or assistance with anything.
My room was very clean and simply furnished with an en-suite shower room and had a lovely little terrace area with table and chairs and a view over the garden to the ocean. There was also a great outdoor reception area with hammocks and lovely comfy chairs where you could read or just chill.
The restaurant upstairs had an absolutely stunning view which certainly complemented the food. The young chef really did produce some exceptional dishes which were cooked to perfection and definitely worthy of a good few stars! The care in the preparation and presentation was second to none and I was extremely impressed with her skills.
Just on the outskirts of the town they also have their own beach bar, La Playa, which is in a fab location and serves wonderful chilled beers and a great range of cocktails. You can also get really good food here too! On the Sunday I was there they had a Steel Pan playing which was brilliant – definitely a good way to spend a sunny afternoon!
I think the Green Roof Inn was a lovely place to stay and did what it set out to do very well. It has a great charm in beautiful surroundings and offered very good value for money. And they made a packed breakfast for me on the day I left to catch the ferry at 6am –even though I hadn´t asked for it! It´s those little touches that make the difference. I shall return!
