A long way but very much worth it once you get there. The beach is wonderful the waves too fierce for me as i am not a strong swimmer but fine for other half who loved it. He enjoyed diving but difficult to arrange. The hotel rooms are amazing - we upgraded and stayed in the top block which had a separate pool amongst 10 bed rooms. The staff couldn't do enough for you and nothing too much trouble. The food was delicious especially lobster and BBQ nights. The open top trucks took you anywhere and great to sample other restaurant. We took a trip on friendship rose to Tobago cays long journey and didn't spend very long there but looked after and fed all day long.

Very much recommend the island and has restored our faith in the Caribbean.

What a gem Bequia Island is - such a find! The people are wonderfully friendly and there's no over-deveopment so you can feel like you are taking a step back in time. We stayed for 5 nights at the Bequia Beach Hotel, on Friendship Bay. It was booked through 'Western & Oriental' who got us a better rate (and room) than booking direct and were very helpful & professional throughout the booking process.
Although on the other side of the island to most of the restaurants and other built attractions, the Bay is gorgeous, deserted and idillic. The hotel was built in 2007 and is still going through a few developments. The owners are Swedish and quite a bit of the items come from Sweden (bedlinen and some furniture - not IKEA though!!) The rooms are beautifully decorated and the staff very attentive. The food is quite pricey in the hotel and the included continental breakfast is a bit sparse but you can easily enough get a 'dollar' van into the hub of the island (Port Elizabeth) to feed up with other delights if you feel the need. Would recommend the hotel, but for couples and adults moreso than for families, indeed the island as a whole is more adult orientated than for families and children.

My wife and I stayed for five nights in January 2012 and had a great time. Bequia is the perfect Caribbean island, small, laid back, beautiful deserted beaches and under developed. BBH fits perfectly into this on Friendship Bay, a postcard perfect bay. The hotel has about five different levels of accommodation and all spread out from each other. Our room, just a classic, was great. Very comfortable and spaceous, with lovely view. The restaurant is excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I cannot find any faults with this place. Perfect!

Simply fantastic six nights. Our visit was organised by a small independent UK-based tour operator called "Just Bequia", who I cannot rate highly enough. We had never heard of the hotel until it was suggested to us by Just Bequia for its wonderful beach front location, 5 star service (very rare in the Caribbean), relaxed atmosphere, quality food, and value for money (they get great rates). Our room was very quiet and at the top of the property, beside the plunge pool, and away from the main pool/restaurant area. You need to be fit if you are going to go up and down 67 or so steps multiple times a day, so if that is a problem book a room on the ocean front. We simply loved every minute. It was easy to get a taxi on demand by phone within a few minutes that could take you anywhere on the island for a few dollars. Food at the hotel is much more expensive than the local restaurants in town, but high quality and convenient - plus the hotel encourage you to explore and spend money elsewhere on the island (surely a first - have you ever heard that before?). Swedish owner and Swedish manager means that you get exactly what they promise and everything is finished with an eye for detail and quality.
