“Prefer Lower Bay guesthouse on the beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2008

This is a nice option if you're looking to save costs, but a very similar place that is less expensive, AND steps away from a beautiful beach is Lower Bay guesthouse. It's much quieter and fewer mosquitoes, since it's away from the town and the cement pavement. Both places are bare bones but when you're on Bequia, you shouldn't be in your bedroom anyway!

Stayed January 2006

“Last Min Easter Regatta”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2008

As I booked quite last minute and it was the Easter Regatta, I came across Julie's Guest House.
It was definitely a clean room and very spacious for a single person, however both nights of my stay felt like I was sleeping next to Dog Kennels and a farm!!!
I had no hot water to shower on any of the 3 days, the room was cheap, but would not stay there again!

  • Liked — The size of the room
  • Disliked — The noise surrounding it! Cold water!

“If you're looking for a Hostel......”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2008

Well what can i say...... Julie's seems to have a very loyal clientele but my experience was not as I would have liked. Its more like a youth hostel than a guesthouse. Ok, the food is fine and enough of it but the rooms are awful, its noisy, the toilets get blocked, not particularly clean all in all would not recommend it.

“Not top of my list.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2008

I've stayed in Julie's a few times over a period of a few months, that was before i found Kingsville Apts in Lower Bay. Julie has 2 guest houses in Port Elizabeth, i stayed in the original one. It is located just a street behind the ferry dock in Port Elizabeth, very handy it you're running late for the ferry. But it is a wooden structure and i found quite noisy - you can hear the person in the next room turn over in bed! Most rooms have a shared balcony but unfortunately not much of a veiw. The people are lovely and yes the food is very good but if you're looking for a private time its not ideal. Mind you i did get the opportunity to meet alot of people, locals and guests alike but once i found Kingsville Apts in Lower Bay i'm afraid Julie's got left behind.

“The best of Bequia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2005

people found this review helpful

My wife, Dominique, and I have stayed in Bequia for 23 of the last 25 years.

Each year we come `home' to Julie and Isola's.

It is, quite simply, if your head and heart are `clean', the best guest house in the world. On the adorable island of Bequia, you are treated with unforced kindness, consideration and care unparallelled in our experiences of travelling around the world and staying in some of the finest hotels in the world en route.

You fall in love with the family at J&I's, because of the love they share and give to you.

Go. Stay. Chill. Remind the child within of how it is meant to be.

Love to all at Julie & Isola's.
