“Friendly Accommodation on Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

This is a super friendly place with a lovely outdoor bar anbd restaurant overlooking the sea. Food is not as good as the wonderful Gingerbread House restaurant next door (under same managment) but acceptable. They were closing down for two months the last day of my stay so things were a bit hectic and they were out of a lot of food choices

I had a Garden View room which was on a bit of a hill with a wrap around balcony overlooking a garden. Very nice to lie in bed and feel the breeze on all sides. Note that they have fans but no airconditioning in the rooms and it can get hot. Also, the mosquitoes are incredible but the hotel thoughtfully provides spray!

WIFI in the bar area is supposed to be complimentary but they were waiting on a part. However, the Friendship Rose office next door has a good and free WIFI signa you can use.

Rooms are very clean and the laundry service is fantastically efficient.

I'll be back and will stay at the Frangi again.

“Quaint hotel, friendly staff, excellent food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

We booked this hotel to stay during our Friendship Rose schooner sailing excursion. The staff here are extremely friendly and hospitable. We booked the original rooms and it came with two beds, desk, chair, mosquito nets, closet, and wash basin. Toilets and hot showers are shared at the end of the hall and were clean. My only complaint was that the shutter window in the room tends to rattle in the night from the wind as I was trying to sleep.I had it open and it rattled but when I close the window completely, the room heats up too much.

On site, there is a wonderful bar and restaurant and they served the best key lime pie I ever had. I also had the luxury of staying during steel band night and enjoyed an evening of wonderful entertainment.

“Nice rooms, lovely location but not quite perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

Stayed at the Frangi for 4 nights in one of the luxury rooms located up the hill, which have AC. The room had a large 4 poster bed with mosquito net, TV, coffee maker, fridge, cute bathroom and dressing area, and a fab balcony overlooking the bay. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little dark with the patio doors shut, and fresh sheets and towels every day was nice. A basket of fruit was provided, which was a nice touch. The hotel provided all they could to combat the mosquitos (well it was rainy season) including nets, incecticide spray, repellant spray and coils. This definitely kept the mossy count down, although I still managed to get bitten.

The housekeeping staff were excellent, professional and friendly. We got fresh flowers folded into our towels and flowers on the bed every day. The reception staff were a bit hit and miss, one older lady was wonderful, all smiles and very helpful, while others were a bit brisk and uninterested. The restaurant and bar staff were mostly friendly and helpful, especially Pat.

The location of the hotel could not be better, just a few short minutes walk from the ferry dock, all the restaurants and shops of Port Elizabeth are within walking distance and the view from the waterside restaurant was great. We enjoyed having breakfast while watching all the comings and goings. The jump up was pretty good, and despite being low season the restaurant was full. The steel band were great, the buffet food tasty and plenty of it, the tuna steak was excellent and huge. While not especially cheap, I think it worth splurging for!

Overall, we had a lovelty stay here, the location was good and the views really special. The restuarant food was always of good quality, and portion size was good. The waterside bar does some really mean cocktails at reasonable prices! The only thing that lets the hotel down slighty was a few of the staff being uninterested, bordering on rude (but not all staff, by any means). We would defintely come back here again.

“Great location on Bequia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2010

Perfect central location, just a few minutes' walk on the beach to the ferry dock, a few minutes in the other direction and you can jump in the water for great snorkeling along the coastline. Liked the simple stone and dark wood in the room, and appreciated the mosquito coils and nets – only downside was that with two twin beds pushed together (each with its net, so cut off from each other once you're tucked in) sleeping arrangements weren't ideal for couples. I'd stay here again, but would try to get a room with a large bed.

“Frangipani Hotel, Bequia - Everything brilliant, except the staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2009

Myself and my G/F have just coming back from a 3 week island hopping adventure in the Caribbean. On our travels we visited the fantastic Bequia and stayed at the equally fantastic Frangipani Hotel in Port Elizabeth, the capital.

The location of the hotel is great only a 3-5 minute walk from the ferry dock (with hiking bags and a slow G/F) along the Belmont Walkway, a narrow cobbled path and right on the waterfront of Admiralty Bay. The hotel has a dinghy jetty right outside so it was easy to get a water taxi to Princess Margaret and Lower Bay Beach. It also within a couple of minutes walk of all the local amenities, tour guides, taxi's, shops, restaurants etc (it's hard not to be Port Elizabeth is similar to a very small town/village).

We stayed in one of the original rooms, upstairs in the original house. Really good, basic room with mosquito net, sink, drawers and cupboard. Communal toilets and shower facilities were next to our room, constant hot water (except in the middle of the day, probably because its all been used in the morning!). The shower and toilet were really clean and not a problem to use. You will need to remember to lock the shower door I was awoken to hear a woman screaming when someone walked in on her! The only bad point was that I left some t-shirts out that were eaten by some of the local insect population. I would recommend you keep everything in your bag and suitcase and make sure its zipped up.

Food at the hotel was good, with a mix of local and european dishes. I always chose local food as the portions seemed to be larger and better value (if you want spaghetti, go to Italy!). Hotel has a good bar, try the local beer, Hairoun.

Not really much entertainment on when we visted but we only stayed for 3 days (Tue-Thurs), but I am assured their is at weekends (check the Bequia entertainment guide you will be given on arrival at the hotel).

Staff were pleasant enough at first however, the reception staff seemed disinterested when you asked them a question and were often quite short with you (hence me not giving them a higher rating).

ENJOY YOUR STAY!
