Stayed at the Frangi for 4 nights in one of the luxury rooms located up the hill, which have AC. The room had a large 4 poster bed with mosquito net, TV, coffee maker, fridge, cute bathroom and dressing area, and a fab balcony overlooking the bay. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little dark with the patio doors shut, and fresh sheets and towels every day was nice. A basket of fruit was provided, which was a nice touch. The hotel provided all they could to combat the mosquitos (well it was rainy season) including nets, incecticide spray, repellant spray and coils. This definitely kept the mossy count down, although I still managed to get bitten.
The housekeeping staff were excellent, professional and friendly. We got fresh flowers folded into our towels and flowers on the bed every day. The reception staff were a bit hit and miss, one older lady was wonderful, all smiles and very helpful, while others were a bit brisk and uninterested. The restaurant and bar staff were mostly friendly and helpful, especially Pat.
The location of the hotel could not be better, just a few short minutes walk from the ferry dock, all the restaurants and shops of Port Elizabeth are within walking distance and the view from the waterside restaurant was great. We enjoyed having breakfast while watching all the comings and goings. The jump up was pretty good, and despite being low season the restaurant was full. The steel band were great, the buffet food tasty and plenty of it, the tuna steak was excellent and huge. While not especially cheap, I think it worth splurging for!
Overall, we had a lovelty stay here, the location was good and the views really special. The restuarant food was always of good quality, and portion size was good. The waterside bar does some really mean cocktails at reasonable prices! The only thing that lets the hotel down slighty was a few of the staff being uninterested, bordering on rude (but not all staff, by any means). We would defintely come back here again.
