“Outdated”

Originally we were booked for a 5 night stay at the hotel, however we checked out after the first night .The hotel looks nothing like the picture and needs some serious reservations .You are given a small key which is attached to a huge cardboard for your room and the girl at the front desk appears to be house attendant ,kitchen assistant along with the security guard who helped carry the luggage upstairs. It could have been bearable had it not been for the musty smelling room and dirty bedspread which had me scratching all day .Initially there was no kettle or ice in the room and due to our requests ,this was rectified after we tried to get our deposit back.None the less i would not recommend this hotel to anyone ,who is accustomed to certain basic amenities .The pool was also small and dirty .My advise would be to explore other options cause comfort comes before any view ,which isn't that great ,but then hey i live in the Caribbean .On a better note ,the food was good a bit pricey though .

“Horrendous Service!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

We arrived for four nights at the Mariners not expecting too much due to the low price, but what we got was worse than we had imagined. Within a few hours we were ready to leave!!

What they describe as a beach is in fact a dirty patch of black sand (covered in rubbish) next to a jetty. Observing more closely, we found that pipes (possibly waste pipes) were leading from all the surrounding houses into the sea on one side of the hotel.

The rooms were what you would expect for the price paid. The main problem we had was that the towels were so cheap that bits of fabric came off when using them to dry our hair. Subsequently, for the first day it looked like we all had chronic dandruff until we figured out the reason, and had to use some of our own clothes as towels instead.

The biggest problem with this hotel was the restaurant. I usually wouldn't dine in the hotel restaurant i'm staying in but due to the stormy weather and the long travelling time, we decided for the first night, it couldn't too much harm. How wrong we were!!
Firstly, when my mother ordered a prawn curry she was given a garlic prawn dish that didn't resemble a curry at all. When we asked the waiter, he admitted he had made a mistake and told us that the curry would be ready as quickly as possible. This was fine until her dish came out again. But this time it was prawns with a tomato sauce!! The waiter told the chef to come out to explain to us that it was a curry but the chef came out and told us that he was informed wrongly by the waiter. At this stage my mother had had enough of waiting and we cancelled the order.

On top of that, when we recieved our bill we were over charged on three items. One main dish was $30 more than on the menu (wish they did agree was wrong) and the cocktails were $3 more than on the menu. Normally i would overlook the cocktails but because of all the problems, i wasn't willing to pay more than we should have. The staff told us that the prices on the menu for the cocktails were wrong and it wasn't their fault!! When i said that i wasn't going to pay more than the price stated to us on the menu when we ordered, the woman kept repeating that it wasn't their fault. After a few minutes of stating that they cannot have prices on their menu and then just change them at their own will, she changed the bill with the most disgust and treated us like we had done something wrong.

To top off the bad quality of service. When we checked out on our final day- they had double charged us for the drinks we had had during our stay. It just felt like they thought we were stupid and were not going to realise what they were doing.

I would honestly AVOID THIS HOTEL LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

“Crystal provided great service and welcomes you with a Smile.....”

We stayed at the Mariners Hotel for a few days and we were in Heaven.Crystal the frontdesk Supervisor welcomed us very warmly with a smile and give us free rum punches on arrival which were delightful! She made sure we were comfortable and taken care of. Their restaurant and foods are great and staff very friendly. We ate at a restaurant further on the beach but preferred the Mariners. The view is breathtaking and my family enjoyed every bit of it.We are going back to St. Vincent next year and we are definitely going to stay there.

“Rosaline makes the best rum punch ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2010

The staff was so wonderful we would definitely return again. The rooms are a little outdated but the pool area and restaurant were excellent. The dive shop is a convenient short walk down the waterfront and Desmond was wonderful for running us around. He did warn us about the Sunset rum and he was right! Vivienne at the front desk was so helpful and mailed all our postcards. I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to returning.
