“Incredibly expensive for what you get”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

The hotel is a bare bones, outdated hotel very close to the docks in Clifton. It is the kind of hotel I paid $10-15 for back in the 90's in Central America. I paid $74 USD for a very basic room here. Elsewhere in the region a similar room would cost around $40-50 USD. We had to wait 25 minutes to be registered at around 2 pm in the afternoon. Our room was in a state of disrepair, but it was clean. The staff, although not attentive, was friendly and did make an effort to help. However, the cost was too much.

“Good Value”

I stayed at the Clifton Beach Hotel for two night in February 2011. My family and I took the fast ferry over to Union Island from St. Vincent. Although we had no idea where the hotel was located, it was very easy to find since you could see the sign from the ferry dock. Upon arrival, the hostess was very friendly. We also met the proprietor right away, who was also more than accomodating. After staying at a similarily priced hotel in Beckway, I was very pleasantly surprised by Clifton Beach, (esp. after reading the other reviews). We had 3 rooms, all very spacious with A/C, minimum 2 beds and two of the rooms had TVs and fridges. There was a large wardrobe, dressing area and a good sized bathroom. The rooms were clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable enough...Actually, the only thing that kept me awake was the rain and wind, (even though this is supposed to be the dry season...). We happened to be there for Valentine's Day and had the buffet dinner. There was also live music, dancing, games and prizes. The dining room was full and everyone looked like they were having a great time. Drinks during the day are cheap but prices go up in the evening...Coming from Canada, it was still cheap, either way,
Great hotel, great value. If I return to Union Island, I will definitely stay there again!

“Great view, great food and great staff”

After reading the reviews online I was extremely nervous at the idea of staying at this Hotel. But since we were travelling as a large group and needed somewhere affordable we decided to stay here. I am pleased to say it was amazing.

From the first day the staff acquinted us with the various attracts on the island. We were connect to the locals who provided us with a day tour to the neighbouring islands - Mayreau, Happy Island (you must go there), and Palm Island. All which were minutes away. I will agree the rooms are really simple but honestly the food and the staff truly made it an enjoyable experience.

At night, the dinner and music was fantastic. We sat on the jetty and really enjoyed the moonlight and the sound of the sea. Next door we were able to purchase great souvenirs.

I will definitely do it again, simple hotel but i was able to take advantage of the tourist attraction as well as the local areas.

“Don't do it”

We travelled through trip advisor prior to our trip to the Grenadines for a hotel on Union. The only option listed was the BigSands - which was closed for a refurb. So instead we contacted a hotel listed in the Hunters guide.

We arrived to find the hotel literally rotting away. The room did have aircon and clean sheets but the bathroom was a partition in the corner(not full floor to ceiling). The bed was a foam mattress about 2 inces thick and the pillow were of the chopped foam variety. I've stayed in some basic places in my time but this is the first time I have had to pull furniture in front of the door to secure myself.
We checked out (payed our 173EC) and moved... quickly!

The bar and restaurant are deserted and there are better options. Stay away and instead you could try
1. The anchorage - we ate there. Grumpy staff but a beautiful setting and we met folks who stayed there and said rooms were good and under 100 US.
2. Or we stayed in the Kings Landing hotel. It was 95US but did have a pool and very nice sea clean sea view rooms. (I'll write a separate review too)

“Big Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2007

Stayed at the Clifton Hotel Union Island after having travelled blissfully through the Grenadines to this, our final destination. The Clifton was a huge disappointment. Despite being right over the ocean the rooms have no terrace. It was a depressing bare room, with a curtain instead of door to bathroom. The shower which was barely a drip stopped icompletely in mid - shower and though the indicated that they'd up the water pressure it never started again. We stayed here because it was likely the least expensive hotel we could find, and we were flying out the next a.m., and it did fit that bill. We also erred in ordering a beer downstairs and they charge an outrageously high price for a 1/2 size bottle of beer ($8.) I'd look for somewhere more pleasant next time.
