have been wanting to stay at this resort for years, was disappointed when it closed a few years ago after hurricane. We just returned from a fabulous 1 week stay (January 2012). Absolutely LOVED it. It lived up to all of my expectations in most cases. the location is amazing, it is so remote and so beautiful, and arriving by boat was very cool. the rooms are nice, not as luxurious as a four seasons in the states, but very spacious and the bathrooms are huge and very nice. we had a 2nd floor ocean view room and the view from our balcony was one of the best we've ever had. Service is an odd mix of four seasons perfection but with some "island time" problems. I will give management credit though, if something is wrong, they go out of their way to make it right – in typical four seasons fashion. They know they have only recently reopened and have to live up to four seasons expectations. The beach is really nice, no the sand isn't sugary white, but it was still really nice and the beach is huge, peaceful and very private feeling, even though technically it's a public beach. Service at the beach was outstanding. By the second morning, they knew our favorite spot and had seats set up and waiting for us upon our arrival each day. typical four seasons amenities - chilled towels, evian spritz, all kinds of snacks etc. Sylvester at the beach is So nice and took great care of us all week. the food at the resort is good, lots of variety and many restaurants. some were better than others. Mangos is fabulous - highly recommend going there. the Italian place was alright, nothing so amazing, but good food, ambiance was bleh. coral grill had good food was but service was alright. similar problem we had at all restaurants seemed to be who was your server. it was like they rotated but everyone assumed someone else was taking care of you. I would agree with some of the other reviewers comments about waiting forever to get a drink order, or waiting forever for lunch at cabanas. All true, but still worth it for this fabulous location! the breakfast buffet was decent, i've definitely seen nicer and more bountiful breakfast buffets in the Caribbean, even at hotel chains not on par with a four seasons. though we did get free breakfast daily as part of amex platinum, i don't think i would've been happy paying $84 for two people to have that buffet every day. they need more outdoor seating options at the breakfast location. we'd always ask specifically to sit outside and they'd try to seat us indoors without first looking at the outdoor area, and we always told them we saw open tables, then they'd move us. definitely do the golf course tour, it's so much more than a tour of the golf course, you see so much of the resort, the beauty, the surroundings, drive up to the top of the mountain, see monkeys, the tour guide was amazing too. Leon at the concierge desk is phenomenal and really helped with everything we could need. the spa was nice, massage was decent, but the spa area was really pretty and unique. We did a private sail with nevis yacht charters, highly recommend it. Miles is amazing and took us snorkeling, and b/c of his background in marine biology he showed us really cool stuff. we had a fabulous time and would like to return one day. there were definitely some service issues, but there were way more positives and I still highly recommend the place. There is not a lot to do in Nevis, we simply relaxed and enjoyed a week on the beach and for that it was perfect. But it’s a very sleepy island, not a ton to see or do, but still beautiful and the Nevisian people are the NICEST, friendliest and warmest people I’ve ever met on any Caribbean island and we’ve been to a lot of them! We thoroughly enjoyed talking to everyone at the hotel, they were genuine and went out of their way to please the guests in most instances. Yes the resort is exorbitantly expensive, but every single thing on the island has to be imported. However, don’t plan on coming here and trying to find ways to scrimp and save. A can of diet coke is $5 (but it’s $4 at the gift shop,FYI). Meals are expensive, there are resort fees, environmental fees, taxes etc. built into everything. Some of this is standard across the Caribbean, but some of the charges were a lot. However, even with those complaints, we knew what we were signing up for and still had the BEST vacation and hope to return! Oh, the launch from St. Kitts is nice. the way there it was peaceful and a beautiful boat ride, with not too many people. On the way home, it was PACKED with people and the water was very choppy that morning and it made me slightly nauseous. Just sit up top, tends to be less rocky than inside. St. Kitts airport is AWFUL, one of the worst I’ve been in. it’s comical how they handle check in. it’s very buggy and VERY hot.
I really find it hard to imagine how you could NOT enjoy Nevis and especially the Four Seasons. I understand how some people complain about the value and the high prices and not feeling everything was perfect. I do get that, but for us, it was still an amazing getaway and we would return.
