This is my third or fourth review of Oualie Beach - and my last for a while as our work has finished in the East Caribbean for the foreseeable future.
Candidly I very much like the Oualie as I do Nevis as a whole. This hotel is not a chain hotel - and doesn't pretend to be. It's clean, comfortable with excellent a/c and well screened balconies. The rooms are large, the fridge good, beds comfortable and the staff caring and friendly. You are literally on the beach - I walked 33 paces from the room to the water - I counted. And it's a very good beach, golden sand with a clean, clear sea which attracts locals and families over the weekend.
I get a hire car when in Nevis. I like to get out and about as there are some really good restaurants to visit and places to drop into. I would recommend Golden Rock for its stunning view, Pizza Beach (literally beside the airport runway and the sea)
Indian Summer (opposite Yachtsman Grill) beware the enormous starters and the 'medium' chicken curry ( excellent) had a very definite afterburn. Remember that in both St. Kitts & Nevis there is a 10% service charge, 10% VAT and 2% other tax added to prices; if you're not sure check the menu.
The restaurant/bar is good and represents value; literally next door (10 yards) is a windsurf, dive, watersport hire/tuition place.
I like the free wifi as I need to keep an eye on things but I like the freedom to unwind and relax. A final piece of advice: wherever you go in St Kitts & Nevis at dusk and later, Deet up and then do it again especially if you're going to a beach. The sandflies at night are waiting just for you......
A super place if you like to do your own thing; not a place for those that need the security of a chain or resort property.
