My whole family (11 of us in 3 condos) stayed at the Cayman Breakers condos in Cayman Brac for a week in mid-July (just between Hurricanes Dennis and Emily). The complex is beautifully maintained, very clean and the owners, Robert and Nina are friendly and helpful. With 11 of us, 9 old enough to dive, dive boats that operate on a fixed schedule don't interest us. We're on vacation - we don't want to have to make someone else's timetable. Nina gave us a list of shore dives and directions to each. The dive operators will tell you there is no good shore diving, they're wrong. Bert's Boulders was our favorite dive, easy entry down a boat ramp and the corals were beautiful.
The only drawback was eating out. Restaurant choices are very limited. We plan to eat breakfast and lunch in the condo and usually went out for dinner each night. Aunt Sha's had great local food (the conch fritters are the best I've ever had), but you had to fight off the flies. Captain's Table was fantastic. The restaurant at the Divi hotel had a decent buffet, but it was $38/person with the only seafood on the buffet being fried red snapper fingers and a bit of smoked salmon. Definitely overpriced! Best grocery store was Tibbets at the marketplace by the airport.
All in all, it was a great week on a beautiful island. The island is quiet, no real shopping or night life, but a perfect family place. We rode bikes, provided by the complex, to the Great Cave to look at the bats, hiked to the cliffs and collected more beautiful shells than we've ever seen just walking down the beach. We will definitely be back and we'll be staying at the Cayman Breakers.
