“Ugh.”

Our family spent one day/night here as our condo on the island was being readied. Anyone who tells you this place is acceptable has a very low standard. Building is beat up, carpets are stained, rooms lack the "Westin" touches, food tastes like it came out of a frozen box, wireless was broken, staff was indifferent. Sure the beach is nice....it should be it is Seven Mile Beach! The only reason I don't give it a lower rating is I didn't see a roach or bed bug. I have stayed at many, many Westin properties and they should yank their name off this place immediately.

“Great Beach Property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We really enjoyed our stay, although we were given one of the few rooms without a balcony. We did ask for a change but were told no other room was available. The hotel and room were very clean and satisfactory. The pool area was gorgeous although the water was not heated and a bit cool when initially entering. The beach was extremely clean and plenty of lounge chairs were available. The beach also had trees to sit under and provide shade, one of my main criteria when choosing a hotel. Overall, a very good experience and would return providing we had a balcony.

Lined by the willowy Casuarina trees, we're delighted that you enjoyed the natural shade that they offer from our prime spot on Seven Mile Beach. We've just recently completed renovating the pool area and we're glad you liked it! In the future, please don't hesitate to let our staff know if the temperature may need adjusting and we'll do what we can to make your experience perfect. We truly appreciate that you chose to stay with us and will look forward to welcoming you back to the Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa, Grand Cayman in the future.

“Having a beautiful beach is not a good excuse to be terrible.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I wasn't sure if I should make this review a good one or a bad one. On the one side, the beach at this resort is really beautiful ...long and super clean, really white sand, beautiful blue ocean...exotic marine life and lots of fun water activities. The hotel is also quiet, very safe, and close to the airport. As a destination its perfect! However, what is being rated here is the hotel not the destination and enjoying a perfect setting is not good enough of an excuse for all the flaws found at the westin Casuarina.

The check in experience was terrible. The room was not available when we arrived. There were still no rooms available at check-in time. We paid for an upgrade to an ocean front room. When we finally got to the room we were disappointed. The ocean view was non existent, it was totally covered by trees. They tried giving us a second room, still no real oceanview. My advice would be that you ask to see your new room before you pay for an upgrade. Most likely it won't be worth it. I believe only the deluxe ocean fronts have a real ocean view. The room felt standard and old, as did the hotel. The staff was rude except for the people who serve in the pool and beach areas. The concierge was totally incompetent - our calls from the room were never answered, our voice messages never returned. When we finally came down to see her, she didn't seem interested in making any helpful suggestions. Another complaint is that we were served old food at one of the restaurants. Regarding food, expect it to be expensive and boring. There aren't many options for a nice dinner around the island. But then again, once you see how nice the beach is you won't really care about this issue. Also, there didn't seem to be any umbrellas by the beach, which is a problem if you don't want to get sunburned. Additionally, the toilets at the common areas of the hotel were dirty. We were looked at funny and ignored when we suggested to the staff the bathrooms could use some cleaning. On our last day, we requested a late checkout but were told this wasn't possible. So the hotel doesn't allow late checkouts but somehow never has a room available at check in time (which by the way is 3 hours after the check outs happen)??? I told the person at the front desk that I would not accept this checkout policy, especially after we were checked in so late. Based on other reviews I read, this seems to be a common issue with everyone.

Finally, this comment may not apply to everyone but I believe its important to note that this hotel is full of families with small children. If you are traveling as a couple just know that the atmosphere is not very romantic. I would not recommend going here for your honeymoon . For couples, I would also recommend a short stay. 3 to 4 nights max.

To summarize, you will have a good trip simply because the beach at this hotel is amazing. However, the starwood hotel group should be ashamed of the quality of this property and some serious efforts should be put in place towards fixing the many problems found at the hotel.

“Overpriced”

Immediately upon arrival we realized we had made a mistake. Simply put, this "resort" isn't very nice. The furniture and decor in the rooms is more like what you would expect from a cheap hotel. The beach is beautiful however the hotel pool isn't anything to write home about. On top of the lousy accomodations, the service is pretty lame. Also, they charge $15 a day to use internet service in your room. There was no air conditionig in the room. We checked out the Marriott during our stay and wished we had booked there. It was MUCH nicer and newer.

“terrible experience”

While I read reviews before arriving, I really was shocked when we checked in to the hotel. The lobby looks like a Holiday Inn (not what you would expect for the prices), the room and hallways smell of chemicals (my child could not stop sneezing and itching from the moment we got to the room), the air conditioning did not work in the room, pool is dirty, peeling paint on the restaurant doors everywhere, service is awful (we waited one hour for a bowl of oatmeal and fruit that never arrived) and the food is NOT what you would expect at a Westin (Casa Havana is not a four star restaurant). We moved to the Ritz after our first night. The only good thing is the beach. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
