“Local Caymanian Charm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

We had a LOVELY stay at Eldemire's Tropical Island Inn. It has local Caymanian charm, located off the beaten path, a ten- minute walk from Smith Cove, my favorite snorkeling and sunning site. I would recommend it to anyone who wants local flavor. The people who criticized Eldemire's probably are looking for expensive, fancy-dancy Ritz Carlton amenities. Eldemire's Tropical Island Inn is small and quaint, not huge and expensive. There is personal service by Tootie and Bob, not a huge staff of workers. I would recommend walking a few blocks to Sunset House for diving, lunch, dinner and Cathy Church's Underwater Photography Studio. I'd also recommend walking 10 minutes to Smith Cove for snorkeling and sunning. We had a fabulous time, and will return during the winter months to enjoy the warmth and quaintness of Eldemire's Tropical Island Inn.

“Privacy on the cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2011

Our stay was from December 21st through January 5th 2011. We typically shy away from large hotels and like to have our privacy. We had a one bedroom unit with a kitchen and a pull-out sofabed which was great for my wife, myself and our 4 year old twins. The room walked out to a patio with a small swimming pool. Even though the patio and swimming pool are shared by other guests, few actually use it and it feels almost like you own the place, hence the level of privacy with Seven Mile Beach around the corner cannot be beat for the price. On the flipside, obviously for the price you won't have a Ritz-Carlton experience either. The facilities have a tired feel and you do have the occasional ant or small lizzard straying into your room. I also forgot that roosters have the habit to wake you up in the early morning hours. I guess you need to take it in stride and realize that it is all part of the island charm/experience. However, rooms do not get cleaned during your stay and you do not receive fresh towels except for if you ask for it. That said, Tootie and her staff were very accommodating whenever we asked for fresh sheets, towels, paper towels and the like. In sum, great privacy for the price but you do give up some of the comforts/service you might be used to.

“An overpriced youth hostel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

This was the lowest priced accommodation I could find on Grand Cayman during the holiday.
The room was fine and basic, and the kitchen was nice to cook our own food. We rented a car and got staples at the grocery store, great local fare for dinner.
However, our hostel-style room cost almost $150/night!
If it were $50/night it would make sense and I would have been fine with what we got.
But... No cleaning of room, bathroom, kitchen for our whole stay. I asked for fresh bath towels midway through our stay and I was told, "we don't usually do that... In fact, I'm surprised you were given towels at all.". There were no paper towels left in the kitchen and the drinking water dispenser was empty. When I asked about those, again... "ooooh... We don't usually supply paper towels.". Huh?
Total rip off. Either they should drop their prices substantially, or clean up and improve their services.
I wasn't looking for luxury or I would have reserved at a nice hotel down the road.
I felt robbed.

“A good place run by good people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2009

This review is in recognition of the excellent care taken at Eldemire’s to ensure an enjoyable visit to Grand Cayman. After making two visits within a year to the island and choosing accomodation at Eldemires, I find it necessary to mention the friendliness and willingness to help of Bob & Tootie. I stayed for over two weeks which was more than enough time to notice that they take kind interest in their guests and take the time to share some good knowledge about the island. I took the open water diver certification course with Bob and learned a wide range of important facts in a very effective way. I was impressed with the clear way skills were taught and the amount of helpful tips shared. The Inn itself is kept clean and operational, is close to George Town and a variety of attractions, and is situated in an area that is safe. Renting a bike is an effective way to get around and gets you where you want to go in a reasonable amount of time. The rooms have air conditioners and TV's with a decent number of channels. Virtually outside the door of all the rooms is a pool which is great for cooling off in, where there are a good number of places to sit/ly down and enjoy the tropical garden view. Another close place to cool off is Sunset Cove which is literally only a 10-minute walk. Staying here is an excellent choice if you are looking for an affordable yet comfortable getaway. It has most essentials including wireless internet that add even more value to your stay. If you are not expecting the fancy and just want a simple and enjoyable vacation, then this is the ideal place to be. Thank you Bob & Tootie for doing everything you could to make my time on Grand Cayman a positive experience and for all your kind gestures. It was truly appreciated.

“ROACH MOTEL”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2009

We stayed at Eldemires because it fit our price. It is the worst place I have ever stayed. Do yourself a favor, save more money & stay somewhere else. The kitchen didn't have hot water, neither did the bathroom sink. The shower trickled & like another reviewer said, getting more toilet paper was like asking for an arm. When I booked it, I asked & was assured it was a real king bed. It was a hide a bed with a bar running down the middle. And one of the women permanent tenants was the most unpleasant Brit I have ever met. A very unfriendly neighbor. The place is terribly run down. Oh, one more thing......we spotted a roach in the kitchen. I did like the location - away from all the other tourists.

We like to renovate rooms on a revolving basis. That suite has been recently painted and upgraded and the bed replaced. We try our best to accomodate our guests when we know there is a problem.

Being in the Caribbean there is always potential for the odd ant or cockroach from time to time. We do not make it a habit to spray harmful chemicals regularly, so we treat on a "need to" basis.

We are a friendly place and do hope that our guests get along with one another.
