“This is the Life!”

What an ideal place to stay in Grand Cayman. I am recently retired and spent years staying at big name brand hotels like Hiltons, Sheratons, and Marriotts but this time my girlfriend and I decided on a different type of experience and stayed at the Sea Spray Cottage. This proved an excellent decision as the cottage is located away from the busy 7-mile beach hotel strip, in a quiet residential area but right on the sea. The grounds are lush and the pool is beautifully situated. I walked each morning on the peaceful streets in the surrounding neighborhood. The cottage included all the normal items found in a hotel room and more. There is a small, but well outfitted kitchen. We found this especially useful as we prefer staying in and cooking dinner instead of going out and the local supermarkets were well stocked. Each morning I went to the private infinity pool for a swim. Included with the room was a rental car enabling us to explore the entire island at our leisure. The owners, Bill and Anne Mervyn, were charming and excellent hosts. They have lived on the island for over 20 years and are a wealth of information. They are available if guests desire company, but make themselves scarce if guests want privacy. Their suggestions for day trips included evaluations based on the weather, the number of tourists arriving, and special events occurring that day. We attended a local art show, the opening act of a new island band and both were great activities. Local island favorites, such as, 7 Mile beach, Rum Point, the Botanic Gardens, and of course snorkeling in the lagoon or sea were improved based on the owners input. Immediate response to additional requests, such as forgotten cooking ingredients , moved this cottage into my excellent rating. For those looking for a relaxed, non touristy experience and enjoy preparing their own meals some of the time this is the place.

“It was perfect for our trip!!”

My husband and I stayed in the Sea Spray Cottage in July--just realized we never submitted the review! Bill and Anne were wonderful hosts...they made us feel comfortable and we enjoyed a few beers on the pool deck/porch with them. The cottage is what it is--the pictures show you exactly what you get...and it was more than enough for us. The cottage had everything we needed--pots, pans, towels, washer/dryer, bottle openers and the best part--a cell phone. It had time on it when we got there and we used it quite a bit to get in touch with our friend on the island. We did not reload time onto the phone but left money for them to do it...figured they could get a better deal :)

We were there to do shore dives so the location was perfect for us...just a short drive anywhere you wanted to go. We enjoyed the kitchen and grill at the cottage but also went out to dinner a few times. Over the Edge is by far our favorite place--went there twice this trip...service can be iffy but the food is wonderful and not expensive. The first night we ate at the bar and enjoyed conversation with some residents. We also liked Chicken, Chicken down on 7 mile beach area and also Rankin's Jerk. There is a grocery store right near by that we would stop by and pick up dinner.

We really enjoyed being in more of a residential area vs a hotel type setting. Trust me, if there is something you are looking for, just ask. I am sure they have it...we were wondering about a grill and next thing we knew the grill was there complete with mesquite chips and charcoal.

The bottom line is this: look at the pictures, they show what the cottage is. If you think this will fit your needs, then go and look at the pool pictures because you will be sold on the cottage. We enjoyed quite a few sunsets at the pool with a beverage.

The only down side to our stay at the cottage was that we have 4 cats at home and Sooty just never warmed up to us...but the cute little kittens visited one night! Oh and the birds scared me the first time I heard them :)

“Great place to stay - excellent host!”

We stayed at the Sea Spray Cottage in October for our anniversary. And we loved the place. Our two favorite parts of the stay were the host, Bill (we never met his wife), and the pool. Bill was always there for any questions we had and gave us valuable tips about places to see and restaurants to visit. He was always there if we needed him but was never intrusive. He was incredibly friendly and kind and added such warmth to our stay. The pool was another awesome feature of this property. It's an infinity pool that looks right out over the rocks onto the ocean. We'd come home after a long day out and just relax and watch the sunset while soaking in the water. We also saw the sunrise from here too which was amazing. The key to staying at the Sea Spray is to know it is not the Ritz. It is a cottage studio apt. and there is no one that will be turning down your bed at night or offering you butler service. It is a clean place to stay but not luxury accommodations. As long as you are looking for somewhere casual and also relatively cheap compared to the resorts on the seven mile beach strip, this is the place to go. You will definitely need a car (included in the rental) but you have beaches and stores all within 10 minutes of your stay. We loved that there was a kitchen so we could save some $$$ and cook breakfast and pack lunches. Some of the items included in the large studio were books, a mini netbook (if you request it), a soft pack cooler, chairs, fins and snorkel, first aid kit, kitchen items, shampoo and towels. There was cable TV too and two chairs to watch it in addition to the bed area, the little study area, and the kitchen area. A few random tips: no alcohol sold anywhere that we could find on Sunday so get it on Sat if that's when you fly in; bring bags to the supermarket that Bill provides since plastic bags are scarce and cost money; watch out for cute crabs all over the road at night to the Sea Spray; there is no restaurant within walking distance that we found but some decent close ones (maybe 12 mins?) at this plaza with a giant H on it that included a brick oven pizza place and sports bar (skateboard park in this plaza too). Best snorkeling we thought was Smith Cove followed by the pier to the left of Morritt´s Tortuga Club if you are facing the water. Our favorite restaurant was Copper Falls for very good steak and guava martinis. Definitely make sure you swim with stingrays at stingray city – and if you don’t want a long boat ride to the location, take the RedSail trip that goes from Rum Point for only a 15 min ride out to them. Thumbs way up for Sea Spray!

“Sea Spray Cottage is the most Idyllic place to relax and unwind”

My wife and I spent 2 glorious weeks at Sea Spray Cottage in February 2010. It was our first trip to the Caymans and we could not have picked a more perfect place to stay. The house is situated in the most spectacular of settings overlooking the ocean. The infinity pool was always available when we wanted a relaxing dip whilst watching the sun go down over the horizon!!. The grounds are immaculately kept.
The standard of accommodation is extremely high but the icing on the cake are the wonderful hosts Bill and Anne. They are very always on hand to offer assistance and information and nothing is too much trouble. However they manage to tread that delicate balance between being accessible when you need them but invisible when you want some privacy. They certainly know how to look after their guests.
We loved every minute of our stay and when we return to the Cayman Islands this is the only place we will want to stay.
