“Villas on the Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

Plantation Village is like a little community on Seven Mile Beach.. The resort features three bedroom villas centered around a small, well landscaped path that leads to the beach. Likewise, there are two bedroom villas clustered around the back pool. It an easy stroll to the beach from all the villas. The resort is well run. The facilites are clean and the staff are ready and willing to help vacationers with any need. We requested a highchair and a crib. These items were happily provided. The three bedroom villas have tiled floors, well equiped kitchens, two bathrooms, a screened porch with a dining table and chaise lounge. The three bedroom villas also have a nicely furnished living and dining area. The bedrooms will accomodate six people. The master bedroom has a flatscreen TV as does the living area. The resort has a tennis coutt, kayaks, bicycles and several areas for outdoor grilling. There is no charge for using the recreational items. Guests must merely sign up at the front office.for a specific time period. This resort is truly a five star, with exception of the beach. The resort is located towards the end of Seven Mile Beach. This section of the beach is not as wide and pretty. However, the resort's amenities easily make up for this. One still can sit under blue umbrellas along the water. A pool along the ocean provides another scenic spot as does the pool at the back of the resort. One of the nice benefits about this location is the proximity to downtown Georgetown. It is about athirty walk to downtown.

Room Tip: Travelers should ask for a three bedroom villa with a nice sea view.

“Perfect for us”

We spent a week here the first week of Nov, 2011. I agree with others that the beach at this hotel pales when compared to others nearby, but you must consider Mother Nature, who stole quite a bit of it, and I am told that It will come back due to nature and man made efforts. We found this hotel to be an extremely good place to stay. One of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. Three bedrooms, (real bedrooms), not closets with a place to lay down) Full kitchen, washer & dryer, large living room and an extremely large screened in porch that had a view of the ocean. Front desk was cheerful & helpful. Two pools that were not crowded. No place to buy a meal on site, but plenty within walking distance. We will return to Grand Cayman and if possible we will stay here.

“Be aware of thefts.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We've been to the Cayman's six times, but this one was different. The units are fairly clean, the grounds are nicely kept, good location, and the people are friendly. The beach is amazing. There are 2 pools, that are cleaned every day. the property is almost at the beginning of 7 mile beach, so you can walk for ever. Great sunsets. The only thing that left a sour taste was that (I believe) unit 31 on the ground floor facing the pool, was broken into and 2 laptops were stolen. Also taken was the rental car keys, and the car of course. This happened in the early hours of the morning, while the people were sleeping in their unit. They left the patio door closed but unlocked.
The police were no help. They never found the laptops, or the car, or person responsible.
A definite inside job, (my opinion) as they are lots of other units closer to the road. Why this unit?.
Watch your stuff.
There has been a sharp increase in crime on the island, both thefts and gang related crime, including murders (Jamaican gangs). Five people were killed last month and one of the victims was a police officers son. No one seems to talking about it, even if they know who did it.
Enjoy the beach, but be aware that Cayman is not as safe as it used to be.

“Friendly Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

We stayed in a 3 bedroom condo that was clean and had plenty of room for our family with 3 teenage boys. If you are looking for a fancy place where you are pampered then do not come here. If you want a place with clean rooms with plenty of space with a good value and a great location then you should come here. The rooms do need to be updated, the full kitchen and bathrooms were all functional but could use a refurbishing. The ground floor units were also dark. We found the staff at the resort to be very friendly and helpful. When we arrive for our week we did not realize that the units do not come with hair dryers. Some one from the office let us borrow one for the week but I do not think that they will do that for every unit. Other post said that the front office was open until 4 but we found that the front office was open until 8pm. The security officer was very friendly and was just making sure that you were staying in the resort. There were plenty of lounge chairs at the pool and the beach. We dove every day and then came back and stayed on the beach or pool. On Tuesday night they have a rum punch party by the beach pool. We also found the other guest at the resort to be very friendly. The week that we were here we even had a guest who at sunset would sing while playing his guitar. He will be recording a record when he returns home and he was practicing his songs while he was on the trip. We had a great time at this resort. There is a great reef not far off the beach that is great for snorkeling. We had our own snorkeling equipment but other guests just rented them from the Marriott which was a very short walk on the beach away. There were guest who's flights had gotten canceled due to Hurricane Irene hitting the east coast and the staff was very accomdating to them with the rates they were charging for staying additional days until they could get a flight home. If you do stay here I would recomend trying to get the units that are right on the beach. We would have also preffered a 2nd or 3rd floor unit.

Room Tip: There is a map of the resort showing the unit # on the resorts website. Use that map to help you pic...

“Loved the Caymans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We stayed the week of August 14th. I've been to many Caribbean resorts this time of year and they are usually deserted. Grand Cayman was not deserted, just enough people to make you feel comfortable. Firstly, many complain about the beach at Plantation Village. There is plenty of coral, but there is an area that you can walk out about 20 ft. from shore that is sandy bottom, clear of coral. But just about 50 yards down the beach is the Marriott which has a much larger coral free area. It also has man-made concrete reef pods in which fish reside. Make sure you save your bread, and we brought a bag of frozen peas to feed the fish. There are hundreds of them circling you while you throw out the food. If you have kids, they shouldn't miss this. There are lounge chairs and plenty of umbrellas at the beach.

As far as the rooms, the two bedroom units are not beachfront, but rather face the larger of the 2 pools. If you have to stay in these, request units 30-40, as they are closest to the beach, and also closest to the parking lot. If you have units 50 or greater, the location is much less desirable. The property and the rooms are very well kept and cleaned. If you trade for a timeshare, as we did, there is no maid service. The 2 bedroom units have no washer/dryer, but there is one on the property. You can exchange your set of towels, once during the week, but I think they may be a little flexible in that regard. We moved to a 3 bedroom unit overlooking the beach after we complained about our unit #59 being too close to some construction. The management moved us without any problems. Needless to say, this was a much nicer unit, closer to the beach. It is a walkup with no elevator, so you could be on the 3rd floor. There are units on all 3 floors.

We rented a car, because we like to go to different restaurants and the food store. There are many great restaurants nearby and all over the island. I would highly recommend the Sunshine Grill, Timbuktu, Over the Edge, Calypso Grill, and Rackam's.
There are also the regular american fastfood, and pizza places like Papa John's, which wasn't bad.

All in all the Caymans were a great vacation with lots to do, but the highlight of the trip was the Stingray City boat ride with Captain Jack for $35. The best $35 I ever spent. What fun. Kids should not miss this adventure.

Jennifer was extremely helpful in the office and a delightful person to boot.

Room Tip: Ask to change your room if you are not satisfied.
