My wife and I just returned from a week-long stay at Turtle Nest Inn & Condos (TNI) and we would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Grand Cayman.
Our first 4 nights were spent in an ocean front condo (#5). While the furnishings were a bit "random" and somewhat dated (the condos are independently owned and, therefore, not homogeneously outfitted), the appliances were all in good shape and the unit was clean and inviting. Our condo was outfitted with twin futons in the living room and could easily accommodate up to 8 guests comfortably (much more space than the 2 of us required).
Our last 3 nights were spent at Castaway Cottage, an affiliate property located just a hundred yards or so down the beach to the east of the Inn and Condos, due to a lack of vacancy at the main complex at the time of booking (the Cottage is located just to the east of a smaller unit owned by the same couple called Castaway Lodge). The Cottage is a small, one-bedroom stand-alone unit on the beach that is impeccably decorated on both the inside and out. The owners, who we had a chance to meet, take obvious pride in their property and go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible (to include providing guests with a delicious home-made rum cake and a $10 CI prepaid track phone for their personal use). While the loss of proximity to the pool, kayak, washer and dryer and other amenities at TNI to which Castaway guests are entitled was a minor inconvenience, the beauty of the property and the private location made up for it. While the Cottage would probably be a little cramped with any more than 2 guests, we would highly recommend it to couples looking for a private, romantic getaway.
The staff at TNI, and particularly Donna, were fantastic. Donna, who seemed to have a perpetual smile on her face and was extraordinary pleasant, was a huge help with restaurant recommendations and assistance with all of our other needs and requests we had during our stay.
As noted in several of the reviews, Bodden Town is slightly off the beaten (tourist) path; however, we found the location quite convenient for exploring the island given it's central location (made even easier with the inclusion of a rental car in the lodging package). George Town, Seven Mile Beach (SMB), Rum Point and the East End are all within a very easy drive of TNI. We would recommend Bodden Town to anyone looking to get out and explore all of Grand Cayman and/or desiring to avoid the crowds and "cruisers" who flock to George Town and SMB.
The beach in front of TNI was nice and the snorkeling was superb. We spent some time snorkeling at the highly-touted Cemetery Reef (off of Cemetery Public beach at the N. end of SMB) and even snorkeled off of a boat around the barrier reef between W. Bay and Rum Point during a trip with Captain Dexter to Stingray Sandbar and I would say that the snorkeling right in front of TNI was as good as, if not better, than any of the other locations we visited.
Overall we had a fantastic experience and would return to TNI in a heartbeat in a return trip to Grand Cayman.
