“Nice place but location is big disadvantage”

Nice hotel unter new management. Rooms were very nice, but service was spotty. (One day they didn't clean room until 7 PM.) Resturant was above average with quite superior breakfasts. Pool and beach areas were beautiful, but water can be a little rougher than on 7 mile beach, since its on the windward side of the island. Hotel location was also on the other side of a golf course from the main area of the island and its too far to walk to anything. They periodically run a shuttle, but its $20 for a round trip. Good business center, good snack shop, and Divers Down scuba has an office on site to book dives. They conducted an excellent orientation briefing one morning, providing great information on island activities. Daily hotel rate was good, but they add 2 fees totalling $30 a day.

Room Tip: We had a room on the south side of the south building that was facing away from the pool on onto the...

“Another beautiful trip to The Grand Caymanian Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We have been coming to the Grand Caymanian for 3 years now, we love it, we just returned January 2012. This year we arrived early at 12:30, check in time is 3:00 and we phoned to let them know ahead of time, they stored our luggage in a private room for us, greeted us with punch and within 15 minutes we where in our room! Every year improvements are moving along, the owner is currently working on a private beach, I go in the water but I would suggest water shoes, there's a bit of rocks that's hard to walk on with barefeet although I have done it, there is easy access from the dock ladder but you can also walk in from the shore. They also have a very nice pool if the ocean isn't for you. Starfish are visible from the dock and iquana's and geckos are regular visitors! There are lots of palm trees on the beach and hammocks, something you do not see on 7 mile beach. The grounds are beautifully kept with lots of plants and flowers. I love hearing the rooster in the morning while I'm having my coffee on the balcony. There is a watersport hut on the beach to rent wave runners and kayaks. Twice a week the resort offers free kayaks for 2 hrs. The resort has activities planned, karaoke night was a blast! They cut coconuts from the trees and have an afternoon to taste the coconuts, restuarant offers drink specials throughout the week and a dart tournament. They have a shuttle for 20U.S. Per Day per couple which will take you to get groceries, to 7 mile beach and georgetown. Staff was very helpful and friendly, cleaning maid did an excellent job! We have rented on 7 mile beach but found it so hot we couldn't sit more than 10 minutes without having to cool off. If crowds are your thing then Grand Caymanian is not for you, if you want a relaxing atomosphere with a gentle breeze to cool you down while your reading a book or just relaxing on a hammock this is the place to be! Rooms are large and clean and all rooms have oceanview! Every year I feel like I'm leaving family when I leave the Grand Caymanian Resort!

Room Tip: View wise the higher the better and as close to the ocean as possilbe.

“Lovely resort on quiet side of West Bay district on Grand Cayman”

January 2012 Report on Grand Caymanian Resort.
Had another enjoyable stay over the 2011-2012 hoidays in a nicely-equipped one-bedroom with full kitchen at the GCR. The resort is reportedly moving out of the Wyndham family and losing the Ramada connection; management is looking at other branding/marketing options, possibly switching to become a Holiday Inn Resort. It is moving away from a timeshare model, more toward hotel and condo rentals. They are no longer actively involved in timeshare sales, just fractional and whole ownership in the new building, but I was assured that our timeshare contract is good for its long-term duration (I own a one-week one-bedroom timeshare here). They are offering assistance with resales of units.
My unit this time was 1209A, which worked out well for me for the most part, although it was not among my list of choices in my request. It was kind of midway, without excessive noise from the restaurant exhaust fan that might be an issue in 11 or 13. I prefer to be closer to the water/dock/pool. They allow smoking on the balconies, so that was a small issue for me a couple of times, when the people below lit up stinky cigar-smelling things (which I could see they littered on the ground also). There were a couple of days that there was excessive noise from the room above (at least it wasn’t late at night); for the most part, my two-week stay was quiet.
The rooms in the new wing have furnishings that are a much better scale for the floorplan, so they are laid out somewhat better, i.e., 2 nightstands in the bedroom. The studio side is a hotel room with two beds, with no studio kitchen (it has a coffee-maker). In spite of the black furniture, the rooms are attractive; the main unit has a full kitchen with stainless appliances. The jetted bathtub/shower looked like it would be better for me also. Currently the view from the “outside” units is poor – bare land with construction materials, although there is a water view from them.
There is no longer a Kids Club, or activities like trivia games (no activity director). There was a small intro snack breakfast with some island info, but no owners update. The Welcome party had no entertainment on 12/26, and had a small band on Jan 2 -- no limbo/fire-eater, like they used to have. There was Karaoke one night (plus on New Year’s Eve, and they had some fun NYE fireworks). There is now a small convenience store next to the reception desk, and the dive shop is across in the former Kids Club location. There is a small gym (4 machines) next to the dive shop. The dive shop is still doing dive lessons in the swimming pool, and they help with some touring arrangement. They didn’t seem to have a regularly scheduled stingray boat trip anymore, but will set people up with one. The jet-ski business does make regular runs out for snorkeling and stingray sandbar. There are a tennis court, volleyball court, bikes, board games, DVDS, books, etc. Full restaurant and bar (service can be a little slow). Access to island attractions requires having a rental car, using the shuttle, calling a taxi, etc. Most tours provide free pickup for their activities. It's about a 2-mile flat walk to the main drag and 7 Mile Beach area (where there is a handy, cheap local bus system).
The hot tubs are gone – one location is now the new restroom area (a welcome addition) and the other is a charcoal grill set up; the propane grills are gone. I was pleased that there were 3 hammocks up – even tho it was quite windy a lot of the time, I do enjoy hammock time. Got different answers about the likelihood of a second pool ever happening (which had been promised for a few years); the current pool is adequate but not special in any way. They were putting effort into making a sandy water entry into the Sound, but it looks like a losing proposition. I did go in from the dock ladder, in order to photograph some starfish out there. The new shaded seating area by the dock is nice.
The groundskeeping and housekeeping are excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I had no issues that required addressing; everything worked and nothing was missing.

“Remote but beautiful - clean - friendly staff”

We had never been to the Grand Caymans so I read all the posts about this resort so I knew what to expect. You definitely want to rent a car because the resort is in residential area and nothing is within walking distance unless you like really long walks. Driving like the Brits on the wrong side of the road and dealing with the crazy roundabouts is not for the faint of heart. Bring your Garmin or other GPS device with you. It literally saved my life many times.

The Grand Caymanian is on the rocky bay side do don't expect a white sand swimming beach. It is a beautiful view and we enjoyed sitting on the boat dock and adjoining deck but the water looked a bit too murky for swimming. We would park at the Marriott and swim at Seven Mile Beach which is 5 minutes away.

We had a one bedroom unit overlooking the golf course and it was spacious, squeaky clean, quiet with a well appointed full kitchen. The bathroom had a giant whirlpool tub big enough for two. There was also a washer and dryer in the unit which is always a big plus. Our dryer wasn't working but we told maintenance and it was fixed by the time we got back from lunch.

The pool was clean and the resort allowed 24 hour access which is VERY unusual for a timeshare. We enjoyed romantic midnight swims every night. The exercise room is small but there is enough equipment to get a decent workout. There is also a gas BBQ next to the pool.

Staff could not have been nicer. Everyone was all smiles and were eager to help. The lady in the dive shop knew all the best places for snorkeling and went out of her way to help us even though we didn't buy anything from her.

We didn't eat at the restaurant but the food sure looked and smelled great!

We would definitely stay there again next time we are in the Grand Caymans.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms facing the pool. There is a LOUD vent fan on the restaurant that runs until midnigh...

“Great Vacation Spot if you want to relax”

We had a great vacation at the Grand Caymanian Resort. We loved it being off the beaten track and being surrounded by the golf course was very peaceful! You DEFINITELY need to rent a car if you are staying here but I would recommend that regardless! The island is wonderful and the public beach access of 7 mile beach left little to be desired....and then we got to leave that hustle and bustle every night to our retreat on the other side (1 mile across).

I will return to this property year after year!

Room Tip: Ask for beachside/golf course...great view!
