Olde Yard Village is in a convenient spot on the lovely island of Virgin Gorda. You can walk along the narrow road into town, but that same road also connects the North Sound to The Valley (the town). It gets busy, and Olde Yard Village sits nearly on top of the road. If you like to have your windows open in this beautiful, temperate climate...and why wouldn't you?...pick a different place. The beeping car horns and loud stereos kept us up all night our first night there. We asked to be moved, and to the management's credit, they did put us in a different building. Still, it is almost impossible to escape the road sounds here. No matter which condo you're in, your front bedroom faces the road. We were a party of four in a two-bedroom unit. The back bedroom was quiet until our neighbors turned on the AC. The compressors --- astonishingly --- were on the balcony, directly beneath the back bedroom windows, and even though the building is brand new, the whirring and crackling of the mechanical equipment woke everyone up.
Also, at about 9 a.m. on weekdays, construction starts. OYV appears to be finishing up its last building, but they are still working on landscaping and sidewalks, even though they told us all work was finished. There is a sandy lot directly across the street, an unrelated construction site that was a beehive of activity when we visited Jan. 5-11, 2007.
The on-site restaurant is very good, with excellent espresso, but you could put on your most charming party manners, and the waitstaff will not crack a smile, which is very unusual in the BVI.
