“Basic accomodations, budget priced comfortable and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We chose the garden rooms because they are equipped with AC. The rooms are clean and comfortable but not fancy at all. I would compare them to an older "motel 6" in the states. But you’re not coming to Virgin Gorda to stay in the rooms, you're there for the views and beach time and this place has both.
The garden rooms had a decent distant view and the individual porches were a nice place to have a cup of coffee. As with all of the BVI chickens are everywhere and Fischers is no different. Expect the clucking and crowing to be your constant companion.
The beach at the hotel is great, a protective reef make it a great place to snorkel within steps of your room. The hotel provides lounge chairs and tiki huts on the beach that are fabulous but BEWARE of the sand fleas here, they were awful and using bugs pray is a MUST or you will regret it.
The hotel was gracious enough to provide free ice and small coolers to use at your room or on the beach and this was a real perk.
My one complaint was that the hotel does not provide a coffee maker in the room and their policy is to charge $2.50 for EACH cup of coffee. This was an expense that we were not planning on and is totally out of line with the service we came to expect during our stay. I know doesn’t sound like much, but if you drink a pot of coffee every morning like us, this is an extra $30/day that no other place charges. It was not clear that we were being charged such a ridiculous amount until it was after the fact when it was added to the room bill.

Room Tip: Garden rooms have AC and pink or yellow ones have the better view of the water.

“Fischers Cove (FC) Part III”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This was our third visit to FC and Virgin Gorda, and my third review of the hotel. I traveled with my husband and family members. We have become quite friendly with the owners of FC, the staff at FC, and the guests at FC. I hope this report can offer insight as to why we go and why we like it at FC. I knew there was something special about FC, but it was confirmed last year when we realized that the same people have been coming to this hotel for many years. That in itself speaks volumes about this hotel.

There have been a few upgrades at FC. They have new bathrooms off of the main dining room. Upgrades are slowly being made. I was pleasantly surprised with the food. It was even better this year than it was last year. We ate breakfast every day, lunch a couple of days, and several dinners at FC and every meal was very good. Dawn Flax does the majority of the cooking and that gal sure can cook. Also, the service by Wayne in the dining room was the best on the island. He attended to our every need. Anything we asked for, he said “SURE.” As I have stated in past reviews, this hotel is NOT for everyone. It is a little rough as far as the rooms go, but we certainly do love it, and a big part of the reason why we love it is the people at FC!

Some highlights of our trip included visiting with the other guests. FC has such a great group of people that visit each year. We were fortunate enough to be invited to a cocktail party hosted by our Canadian friends who also stay at FC the same time we do. We met up on a Thursday afternoon in one of the FC cottages and we were treated to great company, food, and beverages! They did a great job and we thank them very much for including us in the fun. We also are so glad we had the opportunity to meet Derek, Geoff, and Brent, as well as Nina and Jim. We hope to see you all again back at FC.

The weather this year was not that good compared to other years. There was more rain, nothing that would ruin your trip, but definitely noticeable. Because of the rain, sand fleas were out and a couple of people in our group had several bites. One guest had to go to the clinic because of all of his bites. I recommend taking some bug spray if you go, just to be on the safe side.

The best thing about FC is the central location. We had a rental car for two days, which allowed us to tour the island, but the other days we didn’t need the care because we were in walking distance to some great beaches, bakeries, and town. One of the new hot spots on the island is Hog Heaven. It is a new restaurant set right off the road at a very scenic visit. They have ribs, conch, and chicken. The food was terrific and the sides were excellent.

We saw some interesting wild life at FC. A pelican came right down next to my husband on FC beach. We also loved the rosters, lizards, birds, and of course all the tropical fish. I saw a lot of species of tropical fish right at the beach at FC. My favorite is the blue tang, or as I call him Smiley!

Room Tip: This hotel is not for everyone, so chose carefully. Make sure you know what this hotel has to offer...

“We really enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We had a really nice time at Fischers cove. The rooms are basic but clean. The staff was very friendly and there is a nice porch area where they have books and rocking chairs over looking the sea. Virgin Gorda is a small quiet island and it is great place to go snorkel/dive and enjoy nearly empty beaches (summer time is the off season).

“Don't Stay here!! Horrible service!”

Just returned from the BVI. Do not stay at this hotel and certainly do not eat at the restaurant! The service was horrible and the food even worse. The mahi was not fresh and the chicken roti had bones! So disappointing for such a beautiful location.

“I Get Fischer's Cove (FC) ....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

This was my second visit to FC and I loved it even more than last year. We had a larger group that traveled with us last year and this year only a third of them wanted to come back. Some people don't get Fischer's Cove, but lucky for us, we get it! Frankly, I hope others don't get it either because selfishly, I want to keep it quiet and quaint.

We immersed ourselves into the culture, the people of the island, and the guests at the hotel and boy did that really make a difference in us having a fabulous time.

My sister, husband, and I just returned from our second trip to Fischer's Cove. I didn't have a rat in my room, but my sister did have a lizard. We knew before hand that the lizard was an inhabitant of Frangipani (name of the room), so she was not startled at all when she saw him.

I was very pleased with the updates that FC has made since our last visit. We had new bedspreads, new air conditioners, and new lounge chairs. They are working at making improvements at the hotel, and if you tell them something is wrong, they will fix it or try to make it right. I appreciate their efforts and hospitatility.

This trip was fabulous. FC is centrally located so we were able to walk to several places to eat. Our new favorite spot is a 3 minute walk from FC. Check out the Island Pot for BBQ after 6 PM. Good prices and good food.

The hotel has added a BBQ buffet on Saturday night with live music. We danced under the stars to great Reggae music. We walked to the Yacht Harbor every day to pick up beer, wine, and snacks. We also bought a couple of souveniers at the Yacht Harbor. One of my best meals during the week was at the restaurant at Fischer's Cove. I had pan seared red snapper prepared by Rupert, and it was the best red snapper I have ever had.

We met so many nice people at the hotel, the employees, and the guests. A shout out to our revered Canadian friends who have passed the torch to my husband as the new embassador of Fischer's Cove. That meant a lot to us since they have been going to the resort for 35 years. Greetings to all of the regular guests that travel the same time as we do. So good to see you all again and we look forward to seeing you next year. Be well.

It is true, the hotel does have some issues. You can hear music late into the evening coming from the Bath & Turtle, which is a good 10 minute walk away. Not the fault of the hotel though. My sister is going to bring a sound machine next year to drown out some of the noises. Ear plugs are also a good suggestion. We heard the rosters too, but now being home, I miss the cock a doodle do. My husband had a lone roster follow him around all week long and it was a precious site to see.

Having returned back to the cold and snow, I long for the view from the restaurant with the teal and turquoise waters of the caribbean sean, and the hills of Tortolla looming off in the distance. I miss the gorgeous sunset dancing off the water and I miss the warm temperatures, both air and sea.

We made our reservation for next year before we left. We don't want to be left out in the cold, literally.

We send our thanks to the owners, staff, and friends from Fischer's Cove. Best Tropical Regards! Boston Tia......
