This hotel was selected from a catalog sent by the Tortola Chamber of Commerce. The photo and description looked attractive enough. We stayed in Road Town while returning from a week on Virgin Gorda. Initially, we were put in a claustrophia-inspiring windowless room replete with bed bugs and roaches. That room had a strangely sweet smell that we have read is a sign of bed bug infestation. We were allowed to change rooms when these were shown to the desk clerk. We were told there was a one-time option to point out any flaws in our new room. It was significantly more spacious, with three double beds. We gingerly inspected one of them and decided to sleep on it. We kept our suitcases as far away from the beds as possible and kept them closed at all times. Upon returning home, we unpacked in the garage and took our clothes straight to the washing machine, During the evening of our stay, a very large roach skittered up the wall. Our sleep was fitful although the place was quiet. Packaged ice and bottled water were provided by the management. This was a nice amenity. The area around the hotel looks rough at night. We got off the street around 5 PM. The location was very handy to shopping, a good local cafe and the famous Pusser's Pub. Pusser's was marvelous, racous while the cruise ships were docked and very pleasant when there were fewer tourists. The pain killers, for which the pub is famous, are superb. Pusser's was our refuge. The Sea View Hotel, where we stayed while en route to Virgin Gorda is vastly superior, a good choice for the budget-minded tourist.
