“I will stay again!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

Ok, so lets start by all these bad reviews and complaints about the stairs...it makes no sense for this hotel to have an elevator. Its an old Fort and the rooms are spread out throughout a hill which is what gives each room the spectacular view from their balcony. I stayed a whole week and let me tell you I have NOT ONE complaint. Now, if you are expecting a Four Seasons, you are in for a big disappointment. Now if you are looking for a great value for your $$, this is the place. Great location, views, comfy food and pillows. Cable TV, wi fi, and great A/C make it feel as that you are in a real hotel with the charm of a guest room at some beach house with a not pretending good customer service. God only knows how picky I am, and I can tell you I loved this little place!!!

“Very poor value for money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2010

We had reserved two rooms for a night at each end of our sailing trip at a cost of $175 each room each night- including taxes. When we arrived there were lots of stairs which we were expecting however our friends have a very small child who was by now sleeping as it was 10.30pm. Now you would think the man who checked us in might have taken at least one of their 3 big bags to the room to help them, but no he carried the keys!

The rooms were very poor, outdated furniture, hoaching with mossies and the bathroom had holes in the ceiling. It was clean.

The main problems were the airconditioning unit was pouring out water all over the fridge and the electrics around the bed. The floor was awash and very slippy. I went to the front desk and reported this and asked for a large towel to mop it up. Receptionist said " do you realise I will have to go all the way to the top of the hotel to get one?"

She eventually arrived with the towel but the A/C was never fixed.
Now under room 202 there would appear to be a cave or something similar with continuous running water. This could be accessed from a hatch in the floor under the bedside table. I suspect it is the drainage for the private pool in the room above. Very noisy and disconcerting.

This hotel is adjacent to some of the marinas and I expect that is where they get most of their trade. One nighters who cannot be bothered complaining. However the cost is excessive for the standards they provide. It reminded me of a downtown hotel in Havana in the 90's

Would not stay there again.

“.. terrible..”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

I have very rarely rated a hotel as terrible and I very rarerly disagree with other tripadvisors reviews. But this is one of these rare occasions.....
We stayed in this hotel one day prior to chartering our boat and... after a 15 hour trip from Europe is was really depressing. We had to climb tones of stairs with our luggage before we could get into the room. Nobody helped us with the luggage. The hotel would be the equivalent of a poor 2 star hotel in Europe... those that I stayed in once or twice when I was a student and had no money. The room had not been renovated for decades. Bathroom falling apart, cracks in furniture. From the bed we could see the inside of the ceiling through some kind of holes because the structure was unfinished. Toilet would not flush. Yes, of course it is the Caribbean.. .but at the end of our trip we stayed in Fort Recovery and the toilet was flushing perfectly well. Clean? Well, what can I say.. my husband kept saying it was "quite clean".. but in a room in such a shape toilet not flushing etc... I found it just... filthy.... And the pool, what a joke! the pictures they show in the internet are very misleading. Yes, of course, we paid "only" 100 US$... but it was one of those situations I would just have payed ten times more to get me out of there.

“We stay at the Ft. Burt, everytime!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

Over the years, we have stayed at the Ft. Burt a number of times (pre and post sailing) and love it more, each time. This last trip was the best so far. The menu and food at Drake's Point (the hotel restaurant) is SUPERB. The hotel manager, Eddie, and his crew (Rooseveldt, Anthony and the rest) are true BVI ambassadors. They know the Island and love it! The whole crew is guest oriented and will bend over backward to make your stay wonderful.

We arrived late at night, and Rooseveldt checked us in. We had not eaten, everything was closed, and he went back into the kitchen and brought us back some wonderful cheese, bread and meats so we could have a meal (and drink), before we went to bed. The room was wonderful, great air conditioning and a great view of the harbor and the boat that we were sailing on the next day, the Panache II at Conch Charters (another wonderul place).

We have stayed at the Ft. Burt many times, but this was, so far, the best stay that we have had. The food was excellent and the hotel employees treated us like long lost friends, and we had never seen them before this trip. A wonderful recommendation for a wonderful place.

“Heaven after nine days on the water!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

After a nine-day sailboat charter, my husband and I dragged ourselves to Fort Burt for a day of rest and recovery. It was early in the morning and the hotel was more than happy to securely stow our sailing gear and luggage until our room was ready.

We then walked around Road Town, had lunch, and returned a few hours later. The staff met us with smiles and questions about how they could help make our visit more pleasant. I remember the manager of the restaurant, poking his head out from the kitchen and welcoming us to Fort Burt.

I nearly fell over when I saw the room... king sized bed, amazing view of the water, charming balcony, small refrigerator with ice and bottled water... flush toilet (if you've been on a boat, you'd understand)... and much more. We were thrilled!

The rest of the day, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching the boats in the bay, swimming in their crystal clear pool, enjoying the lush landscaping and interesting architecture of the hotel, and collapsing in an air conditioned room!

That evening, we had a splendid meal in the restaurant with the manager and several others visiting our table to ask about our trip and if we needed anything.

Fort Burt has a handful of room and doesn't have the amenities of a large resort. If you want to experience the "real" BVI, however, from the crazy traffic on the roads, hustle-bustle of boats in the bay, historical significance of the area, authentic food, and natural beauty, stay at the Fort Burt Hotel.
