“Service was terrible! Would not stay here again.”

The hotel was not a bad place to stay. It was quaint with beautiful views. However, the rooms were musty and old, our bathroom window was stuck open with no screen and our refrigerator woke us up making outrageous sounds! Not to mention that everyday we were woken up by the retched sound of roosters outside our door! As a group, we were given group rates based on 1 too many hotel rooms (which they wouldn't let us cancel) and were told that breakfast/dinner were included at $30/day. This did not include any of the specials or desserts and after staying there for 7 days with an unchanging menu, eating the same 6 items over and over was boring! When we inquired about not using the meal plan, we were told we could not cancel it. Thus, leaving us with an extra $30/day bill for food we didn't want! Additionally, the service was terrible at the restaurant and typically took over an hour for breakfast and at least 2 for dinner!

On the other hand, some of the food was quite delicious (dinner only, not breakfast). The menu could use more exciting items for breakfast or perhaps even healthier options or more basic options for those who don't eat much breakfast.

Overall, should I return to this island, I would definitely stay somewhere else! I felt ripped off and hidden charges just kept adding up!

“Clean but fading hotel”

Good housekeeping. Torn drapes, permanently open screenless bathroom window, refrigerator compressor made a terrible noise, wake up call didn't come through but the many roosters will wake you at 6:15 anyways. No alarm clock. Low water pressure; can't take a proper shower. Good views but AC noise.

“Would not hesitate to stay here again”

Hotel location was quiet, room was clean, there aren't a lot of stairs as one reviewer suggested, breakfast was a little pricey but then again the whole VI's are expensive, nice short safe walk along a main road to main part of downtown, supper was awesome and reasonably priced at the restaurant, would definitely stay here again.

“I will stay again!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

Ok, so lets start by all these bad reviews and complaints about the stairs...it makes no sense for this hotel to have an elevator. Its an old Fort and the rooms are spread out throughout a hill which is what gives each room the spectacular view from their balcony. I stayed a whole week and let me tell you I have NOT ONE complaint. Now, if you are expecting a Four Seasons, you are in for a big disappointment. Now if you are looking for a great value for your $$, this is the place. Great location, views, comfy food and pillows. Cable TV, wi fi, and great A/C make it feel as that you are in a real hotel with the charm of a guest room at some beach house with a not pretending good customer service. God only knows how picky I am, and I can tell you I loved this little place!!!

“Very poor value for money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2010

We had reserved two rooms for a night at each end of our sailing trip at a cost of $175 each room each night- including taxes. When we arrived there were lots of stairs which we were expecting however our friends have a very small child who was by now sleeping as it was 10.30pm. Now you would think the man who checked us in might have taken at least one of their 3 big bags to the room to help them, but no he carried the keys!

The rooms were very poor, outdated furniture, hoaching with mossies and the bathroom had holes in the ceiling. It was clean.

The main problems were the airconditioning unit was pouring out water all over the fridge and the electrics around the bed. The floor was awash and very slippy. I went to the front desk and reported this and asked for a large towel to mop it up. Receptionist said " do you realise I will have to go all the way to the top of the hotel to get one?"

She eventually arrived with the towel but the A/C was never fixed.
Now under room 202 there would appear to be a cave or something similar with continuous running water. This could be accessed from a hatch in the floor under the bedside table. I suspect it is the drainage for the private pool in the room above. Very noisy and disconcerting.

This hotel is adjacent to some of the marinas and I expect that is where they get most of their trade. One nighters who cannot be bothered complaining. However the cost is excessive for the standards they provide. It reminded me of a downtown hotel in Havana in the 90's

Would not stay there again.
