We spent ten days in paradise in January 2012 and stayed in room #1 with sis in the adjoining room.
What an amazing place! Flora, fauna and piscatorial life were so varied and spectacular. Palm tree within arm’s reach, wild goat behind the bungalow, randy rooster (an escapee from the farm on the other side of the island) as an alarm clock, sun bathing lizards and scores of hermit crabs getting high on the dregs from our coffee. Fish, corals and sea urchins off Cistern Point.
Our accommodation was first class, no need for air-con as the high cupola roof and variable speed large ceiling fan kept us cool enough and the bed was so big we almost required a GPS to find our way around it. Wet room shower and bathroom was marvellous.
What really impressed us was the managers’ and owners’ commitment to and investment in, creating an eco-friendly resort. As it stands the resort is a prime example of what can be achieved at low environmental cost without sacrificing quality and comfort, and according to what Andy and Sam(antha) the managers told us there’s still more to come.
Our meals in the restaurant were gastronomic experiences for us Brits. We’d no idea tuna could taste so good and were somewhat dismayed that the best Angus steaks we’ve ever tasted were prepared a good few thousand miles away from where we live. Can’t get them like that at home in Scotland and Angus county is only 40 miles away!
The staff - restaurant, bar, housekeeping and others were delightful and took very obvious pride in looking after us and the resort. They also clearly enjoyed working at Cooper Island Beach Club.
This was our first experience of travel outside Europe and we’ll be back just as soon as we can.
