“Wonderful stay at Agape Cottage - Returning next year!”

Just returned from Cane Garden Bay and the Agape Cottage. We loved it! We stayed in unit J-1 and couldn't have been more pleased. It was roomy with a full kitchen, spearate bedroom, comfortable bed, good bath with good smelling towells, and a fantastic terrace for watching the sunsets.

We fully agree with all the positive comments from previous posters.

Donna is the hostess with the mostest! She gave us her special maps, advice on the best places to eat, and arranged taxis when we needed them. The fridge was stocked with first morning breakfast goodies, and even a bottle of rum!

The cottages are within easy walking distance to the beach, beach bars and restaurants, and the little store and self laundry at the bottom of the hill.

About that hill - yes, it's a little steep. We're in our sixties and in reasonably fit shape, and it wasn't a problem for us. The view made it worth it, and we appreciated the welcome additon to our excercise program. However, people with mobility issues should take this into consideration if not planning on a rental vehicle. And yes, you can hear the roosters and music from Myatts. But for us, that was part of the charm. We slept with the windows open (bedroom air conditioner not needed), and never had a problem sleeping.

We loved Myatt's On the Beach. Enjoyed several happy hours, meals, and the occasional bands that played later in the evening. All the beach restaurants were great. We went to Quito's one night for dinner and entertainment, and to The Elms once for fantastic bar-B-Que. The Mahi-Mahi fish sandwich at Callwoods was the best I've ever had. On Donna's suggestion, we visited Bananakeet on evening for a special dinner, and it was wonderful with the best view on the island.

On Donna's suggestion, we took the ferry to Jost van Dyke one day, and sailed with Steve on the Aristocat snorkel boat another day. All was great.

Every February we like to come to the Southern Caribbean and cruise in the Southern Caribbean for a couple of weeks. This year, we decided to come a week early to Tortola, stay at the Agape cottages, and then fly back to San Juan for the cruises. Our plan was to do a different island each year before our cruises. We decided that for next year our special island would be Antigua. We felt that surely we would find another place like Cane Garden Bay and the Agape Cottages. If there is, we couldn't find it. For us, it's just not there! So - we've decided to return to Tortola and the Agape Cottages next year and have already made our reservation.

“2nd Wonderful Stay at Agape Cottages”

Just back from our second stay at Agape Cottages. As expected, my wife and I had a fantastic vacation. The owners (Tom, Donna, and Dr. Baldwin) are really cool people who make you feel at home.

Tortola is not for everyone, as it has little shopping and no casinos. If that's what you are looking for in a Caribbean vacation, then you need to go somewhere else. But if you are looking for quiet, laid back relaxation in the best part of the Caribbean (in my opinion) you can't beat Tortola. And if you've chosen Tortola as your destination, I would highly recommend Agape Cottages.

Walking distance to Cane Garden Bay, wonderful views, and wonderful people. We are already looking forward to our next trip.

This is not the Ritz. There is no Ritz on Tortola. But after more than a dozen trips to various parts of the Caribbean, it's our favorite little slice of paradise.

“High upon the Hill”

I stayed at Agape Cottages from 6/10-6/15/10. We were greeted by Donna upon our arrival & she provided us with very useful information & things to do. The cottage was sufficient, although the mattress on the bed is just a very firm piece of foam. Only the bedroom is air-conditioned. We had maid service once while there. Agape needs to invest in some new towels as ours smelled of mildew. Short walk to Cane Garden Bay....walk back up to the cottage is LEG-BREAKING! Not recommended for elderly at all or for smokers. Walk back is very, very STEEP! Also, there is no pool on premises. All in all a wonderful time was had, but next time I will stay somewhere else.

“We loved our stay at Agape Cottages.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

Tortola truly offered a taste of the "Old Caribbean". There were no mega-hotels, restaurant chains or tourist traps--everything was completely laid back. Tom and Donna's Agape Cottages fit in with this "old Caribbean" feeling perfectly. Both Tom and Donna were very accommodating and Donna's recommendations and advice allowed us to see Tortola , Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda as if we actually knew where we were going, knew how to get there and knew what we wanted to see. Donna's recommendations on rental cars, ferry boats, restaurants, boat charters (Aristocat / wonderful!) and the like were all excellent and eliminated the time we would have otherwise spent researching such matters. Cane Garden Bay is, by far, the best location on Tortola. We could easily access by rental car, all of the various bays, bars, restaurants, West End and Road Town from Cane Garden. Many of the restaurants were accessible by foot from Agape Cottages. Road Town was a little challenging driving in a round-about on the "wrong side" of the road. Bottom line is that we are going back--soon.
