“Far below expectations-- restaurant closed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

I chose this resort for a vacation because of the recommendations on this website & in guide books. I was expecting a fairly basic hotel with a decent restaurant and nice beach. Nothing fancy was just fine. However, the restaurant is permanently closed-- just not enough visitors was what the front desk told me-- so we had to drive for every single meal. The roads are terrible and the location remote-- which wouldn't have been a problem if there was a restaurant. And the beach? Unswimmable. Waves were huge and undertow strong. No way would a child (or even an adult) be able to swim there. There was a red flag up every day and lots of danger signs. So basically we were stranded at a remote location with no food or beach. The grounds are unkept, and the hotel has started renting some of the rooms as apartments to locals-- so the pool was overrun with partying locals every night we were there. Kids pool was drained & empty.

“What the #$%@!! Only ones there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

We arrived in the beginning of July to find that we were the only (quests) staying other than the AA Pilots. The room was "remodeled" freshly painted but smelled like mildew. The trim was hollow due to the termites, but freshly painted. The room was not prepared to our arrival, could have been cleaned of the ants and spiderwebs, and aired out. Ants are a problem anywhere on the BVI. We asked the "staff" one person and a helper (young man) if we could eat at the restraunt "Turtles" but saw a sign on the window that it was closed due to managment decision. We went to front desk and they opened the restraunt for us and we were the only persons there eating. The mosqitos were so bad that we requested to go back to our room to eat. BRING "OFF" to TORTOLA your gonna need it! The remote control for TV was non operational. We awoke after a few hours of sleep to find a woman and a man next door having an extremely good time around 11:30PM and had to knock on the door to calm them. Rest of night was quiet. Woke next morning to an unhappy spouse who wanted to leave and we went to front desk to explain our situation. The manager explained to me that the "Resort" was being sold to an investor whom did not come through with his obligations and was in a state of transition. This is what made the "resort" have issues with operations. I demanded our money back and we got it with no problems. We rented a car and went to Long Bay Resort which was much better experience. Its a real shame that this hotel was in such dissaray, the grounds are beautiful with many plants and I think the beach was the best in Tortola and Virgin Gorda, after being to all of them. This was once a nice resort to stay in a few years ago but has since lost its luster , due to owner(s) neglect.

“Romantic, perfectly located, secluded, easy access to beach--Unbelievable!”

This resort was WAY better than I ever could have thought! We had the most unbelievable time staying at Lambert's. We stayed three nights, but would have stayed more if we could!! Our plane arrived in the evening, we hailed a cab and it took us down to the resort from the airport in about 15 minutes. Check-in was fast and smooth. We stayed in a wonderful room. It has been recently remodeled! Everything was new, the bathroom, bed, painted walls, flat screen tv, ceiling fan, A/C, and the shower area. It was convenient, pretty much every room is really close to the ocean and beach. Ours was a beachside which was the way to go. We ate lunch and dinner at the restaurant. It was really good food! Dinner was so good, the portions were perfect, the fish was fresh and the beer was cold and inexpensive! They had a fresh fist list each night. The server was attentive, but not to the point of bothersome, which I don't like. We had daily room service, which was nice! They even gave us fresh coffee each day! We ran into the new owners at lunch one day. They are there to make sure that the resort is changing for the better. I know everyone has probably read bad reviews on this place, and being there recently, I have to kindly disagree. We can only describe this a a hidden jewel of the BVI and it is a must for anyone looking for peace, quite, romance, great sunsets, your own beach, areas with waves and calmer water, and shade if you wish to be out of the sun. They even had a free shuttle to Road Town! We decided to stay at the resort, but nice to know they had the option. We really had one of the most wonderful times here, and I have recommended it to all my friends, family, and co-workers looking for an unbelievable, relaxing, romantic vacation. Don't let the previous reviews shy you away from here, you'll be sorry!!!

“WONDERFUL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2009

In February '09 we took a trip to Tortola and stayed with my cousin. It was excellent having someone living there to let us know how to navigate around. The weather was GORGEOUS, the island is beautiful! We just LOVED the mountains and all the fantastic views, every time we turned a corner. My cousin did all the driving, which suited us fine. It's on the left, British of course, and the roads are narrow and steep - but FUN. If you don't like mountainous terrain, don't go. The water was lovely, restaurants were very good. Never had a complaint about anything.
You should study up on flights, ferries and NEVER, EVER, can you be in a hurry. Be prepared to wait. Our 45 minute ferry ride back to St. Thomas took 2 hours, because of customs. But we were prepared and didn't really care. You must ALWAYS go early, because you are on Island Time. They move MUCH slower there, which is JUST what we wanted!
We can't wait to go again. We stayed at Lambert Beach Resort, which was just lovely. No crowds whatsoever.

Nice and clean resort on a beautiful beach. Staff very friendly, food is below average. Not much to do, bring a book and some music. Pool bar is good. Quiet place for families with kids.
