“Basic, Clean, Cute, on a small mariana beach with cute cafes nearby”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

The owner was very helpful, friendly and attentive, even though we were only passing though our last night in Tortola. We are very familiar with the marina and area, and decided to stay right on this little cute beach.
They have a basic cute cafe and bar, and walking distance to many other local beach bars, cafes, shops, boats and a 3 minute taxi ferry from the great LAST RESORT RESTAURANT and bar. The B&B was basic, but clean and cute.

I knew exactly what the Beef Island Guest House and de Loose Mongoose Bar and Restaurant provided and I was pleased to find I had been correct. It is a laid back pastel painted beach located house, used by yaxchters stepping off a charter or waiting to board a charter, and me! OK we did have a yacht for a week, but BEFORE and AFTER we spent a few days liming. My room was lovely, it was # 1 out of 4 by the way. Louvered glass windows permitted lots of Caribbean air to flow through, and there was a fan for the night it was really warm. We walked 5 minutes to the airport, incoming and outgoing, which was excellent. (By the way, airport operations cease at 10 and begin only around 7 a.m. not an issue!) Local knowledge told us the airport didn't even open till 6 so not to bother heading there are like 4 a.m. as aitrlines would have you believe!! The Trellis Bay beach is home to several small artists shops, and a small market and an internet cafe. If we'd wanted we could have taken a boat to the restaurant in the middle of Trellis Bay, started up by someone from the Second World War and now handled by his descendants --- I mean the place is full of history. John the Manager of Beef Island Guest House was more than accommodating. We spent a nice evening with Simon and his wife (Simon still looks after the moorings in the Bay) and all in all, it was not the Hilton nor was it supposed to be. By the way the most incredible collection of books and bric a brac is there to be enjoyed in the common areas of the Guest House (possibly if there's a hurricane or something). The restaurant and bar staff were very pleasant. So I have taken note of the negative comments herein and I just feel that from my point of view, it was just fine. Now, as to bugs and all, I do not know if everyone commenting has been to the tropics on occasion... but it is not uncommon to find a lot more of them about than colder climes. I take sort of a sanguine view of it all. If they leave me alone, I'll leave them alone. Besides there were no snakes. My next port of call was Costa Rica. They have snakes. So Hello my friend Brian! Hi John! Yo Simon! See y'all in about 6-8 months!!

“PERFECT PLACE TO RELAX AFTER LONG FLIGHT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

I read the reviews on trip advisor and worried a little about booking this place but I needed a place to stay overnight to catch an onward ferry in the morning. I walked from the airport along the beach only about 5mins walk. I was greeted with a warm welcome and shown to my room. Yes the sheets are well washed but it was very clean neat and tidy. Helped yourself to fresh croissants bagels coffee tea and juice in the morning. I can't fault it! I had a meal in the restaurant in the evening which was large! And the coctails great! It was peaceful and I had a lovely sea view from my window. Everyone made me feel very welcome and as I was by myself made me feel relaxed. Wouldn't hesitiate to stay again! Hi to John, Laura and Christine!

“Cockroach and bed bug Central”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2010

Our stay at the beef island guest house was terrible at best. in the hot, humid nights in the BVI's, air conditioning is a must and that is absent at the beef island guest house. the only way that you can get a good nights sleep is by having a fan pointed directly at you. Prior to falling asleep, members of my family found and killed 7 to 10 large cockroaches in the kitchen, two of the bed rooms, bathrooms and the hallway. when you finally can get to sleep after fighting off cockroaches, prepare to be eaten alive. Even with all the windows open, fans as high as they can go, it was too hot for me to sleep under the covers and as a result, i got eaten alive by mosquitos. though this could be seen as my fault, all the members of my family who got under the covers have their entire body covered in rashes from bed bugs. During the night, a member of the family got up to go use the bathroom and stepped on and killed a cockroach beside her bed. when she made it to the bathroom, she found several spiders making their way up the wall. when morning came, we could not get out fast enough. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody, no matter how desperate you are for a room.

“Only if you can handle primative”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

No air conditioning and well worn only begin to describe this establishment. The price was very reasonable but the climate in the BVI can be brutal in a hotel like this one.
This was mosquito central and the only was to sleep was with the large fan aimed directly at the bed to keep them grounded. If you can handle a hot muggy room with flying critters and want a good price this is the place for you. We found the staff very courteous and helpful but they can only do so much.
The location is nice with beach in front and heavy growth in back and house cats roaming the area. Proximity to the airport is very convenient but next time I will stay in Road Town and get up earlier to catch that early flight.
