“Beautiful seclusion...for as long as you can take that”

Visited MC on a speed boat trip several years ago & vowed to come back. The ferry service (as others noted) is iffy, both to & fro. The on-island manager, Vanessa, was great. There are only a few rooms, a restaurant, & a dive shop on the island, so not much to do, which is just fine for a couple of days. Stunning natural beauty. The accommodations are pretty bare bones, though. Clean, but no luxury whatsoever. The views & low-key atmosphere are definitely the draw here. You can literally spend your day in a bathing suit (or not). A little disappointed that the "top of the island" bar & live music weren't in swing yet at the beginning of December. We enjoyed our stay, but would probably not stay again for the price, at least not without a few other amenities added. I'm giving it a "very good" rating simply because the natural beauty is drop dead gorgeous. Nice for a one- or two-night stop in the BVIs.

“Our own private island paradise that doesn't break the bank.”

My "then boyfriend" and I discovered Marina Cay on a day trip to the BVI's. We ate lunch at the wonderful restaurant on the beach and were in awe of the natural beauty all around us. I joked that this would be a fabulous place for a beach wedding, and the next day he surprised me by proposing. We quickly decided this was "The Place," and planned the intimate wedding with the help of the general manager, Alison Logi. Six months later we were married at sunset on their beach.

We returned again this past July 2009 for our 1 year anniversary. It was as beautiful as we remembered and most of the staff remembered my husband and myself. It was like going home again.

On the negative side, the ferry is a hassle, and the dock is a bit remote and not well lit. It can seem a little scary at night, but my hubby and I have never had any problems. Just like at home, we try to be alert and aware of our surroundings. Please keep reminding yourself it's an adventure and make the most of your downtime. To kill time before the next ferry, do some shopping or have a drink or meal at the wonderful shops just a short walk over from the pier.

You can easily walk to the ferry dock from the Beef Island Airport. Also if you connect with a taxi driver at the airport when you arrive, you only have to call and they will show up at the ferry dock to take you where ever you want. Just know that they will become "your" driver for your whole trip. We called our driver Sam before we left Marina Cay and he was always waiting for us when we arrived.

Also be aware that you will be eaten alive by mosquitos if you don't load up on bug spray. I have always been a magnet for them, but down there was like nothing I've ever experienced before. Plan ahead!!

I know the resort is currently going through a management turnover, but I'm sure however things turnout, my husband and I will be returning in the future.

“Marina Cay - Gorgeous scenery, but RUDE workers at gift shop and restaurant made it ugly.”

We were looking forward to this area after reading so many wonderful reviews, but were very disappointed in the staff of both the restaurant and Pussers shop. The women running the shop were very rude and would follow you around the store. If you so much as touched anything (sorry if I wanted to read what the front of the t-shirt said!) they would jump right in and ask if you needed assistance (while taking said t-shirt away and folding it up again before I really had a chance to look at it). I did end up buying a tank top, but may have bought more since shopping there was what I had been looking forward to.

The restaurant/bar staff was rude and very slow, and before anyone jumps in here, it was not that busy. There were 2 other bar patrons and one seated group besides us at that time. I felt that not only were they not happy to have our business, that we were resented for it. We decided not to stay for dinner there and had sandwiches on our boat instead.

Between the four of us we read 5 books about visiting the BVI and we knew how to act, and we always go out of our way not to be the typical "American Tourists" which is why I was shocked that our overly nice behavior towards the staff here was so rudely regarded. We have definitely checked this off as one of the places NOT to return to, even though the setting is beautiful and the snorkeling was fantastic.

“The most amazing little piece of heaven”

Just got back from having our wedding on Marina Cay and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. Property Manager Alison is a living angel and handled EVERYTHING- my biggest decision on my wedding day was whether to snorkel in the morning or hang out on the beach! The place is beautifully kept, the open-air rooms have views to die for, the food is some of the best in the BVI, AND when was the last time you heard of a wedding coming in UNDER budget? The place is a sailor's dream come true with a generous mooring field and amenities like fuel & water as well as free wi-fi, which we didn't find on any other BVI island.

Happy hour in the hilltop bar is an interactive experience not to be missed and you can snorkel right off the beach on this island. The Pusser's Store, clearly run by someone with solid retail experience- has a great selection of high-quality souvenirs, clothing, and of course Pusser's Rum, SO much fun to shop in I even bought my wedding favors there!

Alison and her family & staff work 'round the clock to bring guests the best experience possible and not a single detail was overlooked. From the vases of bougainvillea in the rooms to our special rehearsal dinner which they set up right ON the beach, the service was outstanding and this is without question the most beautiful island in the BVI's. We spent Christmas Eve & Christmas Day on Marina Cay last year and knew right away it would be the perfect spot for our wedding. It's gorgeous, the staff is fantastic, and it's remarkably affordable- what more could you ask for? I give Marina Cay the highest of recommendations.

“A Truly Special Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2008

We were married at Marina Cay and just returned to celebrate our anniversary - it is a truly special place. Once again, we stayed in the Lagoon Villa overlooking the reef where we enjoyed the authentic West Indes decor, open air layout, spectacular view of the reef from our balcony and outdoor shower.

Alison greeted us like long-lost friends and had arranged prior to our arrival for everything we needed for our 8-month old infant from baby food to diapers to a Pack 'N Play freshly made with sheets and blankets.

The Marina Cay restaurant is a cut above most BVI establishments, with a more varied menu, highchairs and an exceptionally friendly manager and staff. Several remembered us from last year, fussed over our baby and even offered to babysit.

The ferry driver was very nice, helped us with our many bags, was always on time and made a special trip to pick us up when our arrival didn't coincide with his regular schedule.

We saw turtles from our balcony and snorkeling on the reef, hermit crabs on the walkway to our room and beautiful shells on the beach.

While we'd brought our stroller for the airport, we used a Body Glove front carrier (similar to Baby Bjorn) to carry the baby around the island.
