“Lackluster food!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stopped here for lunch during a stop on the Breakaway BVI Day sail from the Sapphire Marina on St. Thomas. The day sail with stops at the Bath's that included a short hike through the Bath's, a snorkel stop a short way from Pusser's, the a stop at Jost Van Dyke with Justin and Sandy was great!

Not only is the food lackluster, appetizers were served with the entrees and the menu items are way overpriced.

I've had Conch Chowder before and this offering was quite disappointing as it had a lot of potatoes, little conch, in some thin red base (supposedly tomato) and was cold. A cup of this soup was $6.50.

Fish and chips $18. Corona $6.50. A small bottle of water $3.50. I ordered a lobster salad and from the menu description thought it would be an actual salad. While there was a green salad on the plate, the lobster "salad" was a 1/2 Caribbean Lobster $24.

A 15% tip is automatically added.

If you go on the Breakaway II day sail, bring your lunch!

$83.95 for a not so good lunch is a bit much! The setting though is very beautiful.

“Nice location, surly service, way overpriced.”

We stopped for lunch here as part of a day-long boating trip. While there were no other customers, we were still expected to sit in the least nice seats. We were ordering off the menu and paying menu price, so can't see why we would not be treated as well as regular customers. Food was tepid and unremarkable, served by surly wait staff. While the location is good, there are other, better restaurants in them area.

“Lousy restaurant service on our day trip”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Pusser's Restaurant at Marina Cay is the lunch stop on Breakaway's BVI/Baths trip (a great excursion, by the way). The only downside to our day was the lunch here.

A menu is provided aboard Breakaway, with the First Mate taking lunch orders, which are then called in by the Captain. The food menu is pretty varied, but the beverage menu is not. Choices were water, iced tea or expensive "tourist" drinks. I would have ordered a glass of wine, if I had been given the option.

When we arrived at Pusser's, two long tables were set up in the middle of the restaurant, with not quite enough room for all of us. The three of us traveling together decided to sit at a smaller table, which was one table away and right by the beach. When the waitress called out to locate Breakaway passengers, we raised our hands and she asked us to move. We preferred not to sit at the crowded table, so politely refused. That was the end of any smiles, despite the fact that this was not an all-inclusive, discount lunch. We ordered off of a menu and paid full rates for our lunch.

When the taller of the two waitresses brought our drinks, over-priced water ($3.50 for a small bottle) and iced tea, I asked for silverware and napkins. She said she would bring them "in a minute." When our food arrived, which was in a timely manner, I again asked for silverware.

After sitting for several more minutes, I went up to the bar (where a couple of other Breakaway passengers had decided to sit) and asked the bartender where I could get silverware. She called out to the shorter of the two waitresses, who said that if we had sat down where she told us to sit, we would have silverware.

We finally got silverware and could start on our meal, which was okay. The Captain and First Mate on Breakaway were the only people who came by to see if our lunch was okay; the servers did not (the place was not that crowded).

Paying our bill took some time and when Captain Greg came over to let us know it was time to start heading back to the boat, we let him know that we were apparently on the shorter waitresses [--] list for not sitting where she wanted us, too, since I noticed that she was smilingly serving other patrons. He agreed that we probably were.

The taller waitress did ask us if we had a nice time when she put our bill on the table. When we looked at our bill, we found out that a 15% gratuity was automatically included, which added insult to the injury of unfriendly treatment (as a local, I am used to that but it is not nice for tourists). The service was not worth that much tip.

While Marina Cay is a pretty spot, it is not all that great for a lunch stop. The only reason I can think of to stop there is that they do have a large dining room, which is open-air and has a nice view, that can accommodate groups off a day boat. If you have a chance to skip it, do so and have lunch at Foxy's Taboo, Foxy's or Soggy Dollar, where you will find nicer people and better food.

“Good sandwiches and great view of the harbor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

We ate lunch at Pusser's Marina Cay and had an enjoyable meal. This isn't a restaurant with white table cloths and china for the wine and water. But, if you are looking for a good meal in a relaxing atmosphere, it is a delightful experience.

My dining partner had the jerk chicken. He proclaimed it was "excellent" and a dish he had not had before. It was a little spicy but it was tasty and, for our traditional American taste, it was very good. I had a hamburger and french fries. The hamburger was better than what one gets at a fast food restaurant and the fries were well cooked and lightly salted.

The menu also includes Caribbean dishes which looked good but we did not try them.

There is also a selection of wine which isn't extensive but what one would expect at an open air restaurant overlooking the harbor. I had a glass of Beringer's cabernet for about $6.00. There are a number of other wine selections available by the bottle only. Our server was friendly, not very talkative but knowledgeable about the menu and provided refills for our drinks, etc. quickly and efficiently.

One of the main attractions is the view of Frenchman's Cay and the boats and houses overlooking the bay (see photo). We watched a number of boaters coming in for groceries and other supplies. The accents ranged from Northeastern United States, to French, British English and Caribbean English with an occasional German speaker. No doubt, this is a multi-national dining experience.

Overall, this was a good restaurant. Most people are there for the view and the convenience and not a world-class dining experience. It made our short trip to the British Virgin Islands more enjoyable and relaxing.

“The restaurant was a disappointment”

We sailed to Marina Cay and took a mooring ball near the restaurant. Friends had told us that is was a great stop. We were disappointed. The food was mediocre at best and the service was slow. The wait staff seemed bothered that we were even there. Looks like a fun place, but is wasn't on October 27th.
