Pusser's Restaurant at Marina Cay is the lunch stop on Breakaway's BVI/Baths trip (a great excursion, by the way). The only downside to our day was the lunch here.
A menu is provided aboard Breakaway, with the First Mate taking lunch orders, which are then called in by the Captain. The food menu is pretty varied, but the beverage menu is not. Choices were water, iced tea or expensive "tourist" drinks. I would have ordered a glass of wine, if I had been given the option.
When we arrived at Pusser's, two long tables were set up in the middle of the restaurant, with not quite enough room for all of us. The three of us traveling together decided to sit at a smaller table, which was one table away and right by the beach. When the waitress called out to locate Breakaway passengers, we raised our hands and she asked us to move. We preferred not to sit at the crowded table, so politely refused. That was the end of any smiles, despite the fact that this was not an all-inclusive, discount lunch. We ordered off of a menu and paid full rates for our lunch.
When the taller of the two waitresses brought our drinks, over-priced water ($3.50 for a small bottle) and iced tea, I asked for silverware and napkins. She said she would bring them "in a minute." When our food arrived, which was in a timely manner, I again asked for silverware.
After sitting for several more minutes, I went up to the bar (where a couple of other Breakaway passengers had decided to sit) and asked the bartender where I could get silverware. She called out to the shorter of the two waitresses, who said that if we had sat down where she told us to sit, we would have silverware.
We finally got silverware and could start on our meal, which was okay. The Captain and First Mate on Breakaway were the only people who came by to see if our lunch was okay; the servers did not (the place was not that crowded).
Paying our bill took some time and when Captain Greg came over to let us know it was time to start heading back to the boat, we let him know that we were apparently on the shorter waitresses [--] list for not sitting where she wanted us, too, since I noticed that she was smilingly serving other patrons. He agreed that we probably were.
The taller waitress did ask us if we had a nice time when she put our bill on the table. When we looked at our bill, we found out that a 15% gratuity was automatically included, which added insult to the injury of unfriendly treatment (as a local, I am used to that but it is not nice for tourists). The service was not worth that much tip.
While Marina Cay is a pretty spot, it is not all that great for a lunch stop. The only reason I can think of to stop there is that they do have a large dining room, which is open-air and has a nice view, that can accommodate groups off a day boat. If you have a chance to skip it, do so and have lunch at Foxy's Taboo, Foxy's or Soggy Dollar, where you will find nicer people and better food.
