“Great Location, Inexpensive Nice units However”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2012

The people I rented from own 11 units and they are clean and decorated and equipped very nicely. You are only minutes from Orient Beach. This unit rented for $630.00 for the week in May. Where can you get a better deal than that. Any other hotel with a view of the entire orient bay would cost you almost that a day. The only problem is that it is built on a hillside. You cannot drive your car to your unit. You must carry everything, luggage, groceries etc either up from the lower lot or down from the upper lot. You might bring along one of those old luggage carts and a heavy bag for groceries, or just plan your grocery shopping, well. If you are obese or not in good healt to walk up steps when it is 89 degrees this may not be the place for you.

I am 67 and my wife is 80 and we were able to get thru two weeks with no problem other than sore legs the first couple of day. (my wife works out at the Y 3 times a week).

Keep in mind these are condos and there is no desk or management on site. You rent from individual owners. The owner I rented from has 11 units, their site is www.studiosxm.com.

If you can handle that take advantage of the price and have more money for play time during the day.

Room Tip: Check with the individual owner. A room on the very top with a view would be best so you don't...

“Depend on what you are looking for...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2012

We stayed 26 days in an appartement that was renovated. It was very clean and nice. There is no services such as reception desk etc..But there is no loud music playing all day long around the pool and you can easily rest, listening to the sound of the sea. The beach is the nicest of the island they say, but I found others that I liked better et Long Bay. It is a very good place for someone who want's to be able to stay for a longer time. I enjoyed beeing able to go shopping for grocery and beeing able to prepare my own food since creole food is pretty greasy and french cooking 3 meals a day, expensive. If you want to discover the island, there is a lot to do but you have to find it yourself cause NOBODY seems to know the name of their village or even the name of the street they live on..Really. Use the Web...And have a lot of patience when driving around to find the place. Driving on the island is quiet something too, but you get used to it after a week. We had few problems, but they don't seems to9 be related to the hotel but mostly to the island, such as frequent lack of water, short lack of electricity and cable. The pool is very ni9ce, as you can read in the previous comments, it's all been redone and the deck too. They now have 24 hours security..They also signed a new contract with a company to do the removal of the seaweed on the beach, but there was still quite a lot, you have to walk further on the beach to have a clear spot..Anyways, I really enjoyed it.

“It is all about the unit you rent”

My girlfriend and I are just back for a one week trip to St Martin. We stayed in a unit at building St Barth in former Hotel Mont Vernon.

This place is not longer a hotel. Each unit is privately held by a different owner.

The unit we stayed is just perfect. The studio is equipped with everything you need, it is clean and it is in perfect conditions. I can say that the place look much better than the pictures... which is a very rare thing. :) It is a true gem.

Having breakfast, lunch or dinner at its balcony with its great view of the lake and hills is wonderful! It seems that most of the units have a very good view.

The complex is also amazing. It is right at one of the most beautiful beaches on the island (Orient Bay Beach), the pool is incredible, there are tennis courts around and you can find great places to have dinner pretty close (Sol e Luna, Boo Boo Jam and some more on Orient Village).

The ambience is quiet so you won't get disturbed. The people around is very friendly.

The pool, as I said, is amazing. It is huge and the water ALWAYS crystal-clear clean.

When we were there we saw some works going on. They were painting a whole building and making some arrangements to it.

The park is very well maintained too.

There are other posts talking about lots of animals roaming around. We've noticed there are lots of cats, but most of them have owners that are staying in the complex and leave them outside. Also, lots of guests take their dogs with them so you will see them around. It sounds to me like a pet friendly place.

About the location, it is right on the northern tip of Orient Bay. A supermarket (in the road from Grand Case to Mont Vernon) is at a 4 minutes drive, you have restaurants pretty close and you are not far from Grand Case and Marigot. You are VERY close to Anse Marcel (great beach) and Cul-de-Sac (so, a boat ride to the incredible beautiful Pinel Island is 5 minutes away). This place is quite far from the Dutch part, so Philipsburg and Maho beach are not a quick drive.

If you dive, you can go with Bubble Shop which is pretty close (at the back of the near-by supermarket). They have great deals, equipment and the people there is wonderful and very professional!

Finally, the owners of our unit have been amazing hosts, answering all my questions and helping with anything I needed. My girlfriend and I are very happy of discovering this place. We cannot wait to go back!

If you want more details about the unit, just contact me so I can provide them!

“Great location, inexpensive,clean and simple”

My sweetie and I just got back from an 8 day trip to St Martin. We stayed at a unit in the Saba building which fit the bill- clean, comfortable, nice view and great location. It was VERY inexpensive- came out to about $70 per night, taxes included. I don't think you can stay in a Motel 6 for the price!

We took a walk along Orient beach every morning, stopping for a delicious coffee at either Coco Beach, Bikini Beach or a sweet little Pattiserie in Orient Village called "Bread and Cake." We would end our walk at the far end with a dip in the ocean, and walk back. It took about an hour. Every morning they were out cleaning the pool. It was pristine!

The complex is very hilly, and it was some distance from the parking lot to our unit. There is the occasional stray cat,and it could use a little work, but the landscaping is beautiful and the views down to Orient Bay are spectacular.

If you have the correct expectations, you could have a lovely time. Most of the people who stay there are French. We only countered a few other Americans in our stay. The unit we stayed in was simple. Small fridge, freezer that made ice but too small for ice cream. Nice shower, small tv with very few options, choppy WIFI service--- the air conditioning worked great, the bed was large and comfortable and the decor was pleasant. It wasn't a place to hang out in, but we were always happy to come back at the end of the day.

“The views are AMAZING!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2011

Mont Vernon is not a hotel, it has been turned into apartment rentals.
We rented from an investor and stayed in the Guadalupe Building, Lena's Beach Suite.
Our "flat" has been gutted, and renovated with very upscale, high end amenities. We could not have asked for more with regard to the room itself.
The property itself is a whole other matter. We can start with the parking...a dirt lot, with holes and mud everywhere, and to top it off, it is at the bottom of the giant hill. Next would be how to get your luggage up hand crafted stone steps that have had no maintenance done to them for at least 20 years. The light poles were in-operable, so it is dark at night. Keep this in mind if you plan on getting groceries up there as well. It is straight up several different levels of steps, and you WILL be out of breath by the time you arrive at your room, IF you can find it. The buildings are not marked, and if you do not speak French, you are out of luck. The locals that live there have all kinds of things on their decks and balconies ranging up to Refrigerators and sofa's. The French people for the most part are rude, and need a lesson in common courtesy. The pool was huge, and one man would diligently arrive daily to clean it, but the chemical imbalance was obvious by the mildew on it. The deck are is still under construction, but the workers leave all the debris laying around. The Beach is spectacular, clear water, and we were able to enjoy the daily windsurfers that frequent this side of the beach.
the grounds are run down, and the amount of animals and feral cats that roam here is crazy. They need a Home Owners Association to regulate the area a little.
We would stay in the same villa again, due to the great price, high quality appointments and views that are second to none. I would not stay at any of the other villa's, only the one that we rented.
