“Close to the St Martin Airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This hotel is 10 minute walk to the airport in St Martin. They have a nice pool that is quiet. The room has a very nice bed and mattress. There was a TV with many channels and a refrigerator in the room. Free WIFI reception was OK if we were outside our room near the pool. The walls of the room were a little thin, but our neighbors were quiet. The Hotel is a bed and Breakfast.

We had to leave before they started serving breakfast, so they made us a carry out breakfast the night before we departed that we kept in the refrigerator. The food was ham and turkey sandwiches and fruit. There is a restaurant as part of the hotel where we had a snack at night of Creme brûlée. Some of the best I've had.
We got to the Hotel mid morning prior to leaving the island. We spent the afternoon at the end of the runway on Airport Beach watching the planes land. The beach is 20 minute walk from the Hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the second floor for a better view.

“More down- than upsides”

I recently stayed at this hotel and wasn't too impressed really. The rooms are kind of nicely appointed, but the TV was not working properly, the shower head was not attached to the wall which made showering kind of hard (holding the shower in one hand and trying to use the soap with the other). Also the promised free WiFi did hardly work. Supposedly it would not work well in the rooms, but better around the pool. In reality I was unable to connect, even in the restaurant. Breakfast starts late. I arrived for breakfast around 7.20 and was advised in a not-too-friendly-tone that breakfast would start in about 15 minutes. In reality it was about 7.40 which is rather late for a business person. One definitely upside, especially for tourists: the view from the pier where breakfast is served is nothing short of spectacular. Nice view of lagoon and the surrounding hills. Positive is also the fact that it is truly in walking distance from the airport. But the whole property is in dire need of some TLC. With a bit more attention for detail it could be a true winner. Must admit by the way that the breakfast which is included in the room price was quite good and the choice quite ample.

“In need of an update”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We have stayed here a few times over the years as the location near to the airport is very handy when you are arriving or departing. There is a lovely little pool for dip to cool off after a long flight.

The rooms are of a reasonable standard for the price paid and the breakfast, which is included, is very good with plenty of choice. The menu in the evening is more limited than it used to be and several dishes were crossed through with a felt pen, which does not look very professional.

We did feel this time that the place is in need of some general maintenance and upgrading to bring it back to the standard it used to be when we first stayed here. Having said this we would still stay here again.

“Not even as a lay-over”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

The only reason we decided to stay here is because it is close to the airport (5 minute 9 dollar cab ride) and it's cheap.

Turtle Inn is a small (about 6 rooms) privately owned hotel on the road from the airport towards Simpson Bay. Although only 15 meters off the main road, the traffic noise was okay. Noisier are the planes, as you are a couple of stone throws away from the runway. For my night's rest that was not an issue as flight traffic throughout the night was low to none with early morning flights starting around 7h30. The hotel has a reputation also for loud parrots, but on the day I was there they decided to sleep in.
The rooms are basic, but have air-conditioning and all the basic facilities. At least that's what was advertised. But the TV didn't work, Internet didn't work and even some of the lights didn't work. The (good) air-conditioning and noisy fridge on the other hand did, as well as the fire alarm in the corridor. Shame they didn't replace the battery on time, so it was doing that annoying once a minute beep all night.
The real issue here is the 'less than modest' cleaning and maintenance policy. Everything is chafed and barked, partly broken or damaged. The floor next to the pool had loose tiles. The floors are mopped every day for sure, but they are covered in dirt specs. (Folks, to clean the big brown dirt blobs between the fridge and the wall, you have to move the fridge.) One cockroach was sighted, but that goes with a Caribbean island. But this one topped it off for me: I do not want to shower standing in a tuft of hair someone left behind. Yuck!

Nothing good? Well okay, the folks were polite and helpful. But you don't want to stay here. Not even because it's close to the airport and cheap.
