The only reason we decided to stay here is because it is close to the airport (5 minute 9 dollar cab ride) and it's cheap.
Turtle Inn is a small (about 6 rooms) privately owned hotel on the road from the airport towards Simpson Bay. Although only 15 meters off the main road, the traffic noise was okay. Noisier are the planes, as you are a couple of stone throws away from the runway. For my night's rest that was not an issue as flight traffic throughout the night was low to none with early morning flights starting around 7h30. The hotel has a reputation also for loud parrots, but on the day I was there they decided to sleep in.
The rooms are basic, but have air-conditioning and all the basic facilities. At least that's what was advertised. But the TV didn't work, Internet didn't work and even some of the lights didn't work. The (good) air-conditioning and noisy fridge on the other hand did, as well as the fire alarm in the corridor. Shame they didn't replace the battery on time, so it was doing that annoying once a minute beep all night.
The real issue here is the 'less than modest' cleaning and maintenance policy. Everything is chafed and barked, partly broken or damaged. The floor next to the pool had loose tiles. The floors are mopped every day for sure, but they are covered in dirt specs. (Folks, to clean the big brown dirt blobs between the fridge and the wall, you have to move the fridge.) One cockroach was sighted, but that goes with a Caribbean island. But this one topped it off for me: I do not want to shower standing in a tuft of hair someone left behind. Yuck!
Nothing good? Well okay, the folks were polite and helpful. But you don't want to stay here. Not even because it's close to the airport and cheap.
