“Very Nice Staff at the Horizon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2008

Just returned from our one week stay in St Maarten (Nov 21 to Nov 28) and stayed at the Horizon because after checking into the Divi I went on a mission to stay somewhere else. I was walking the boardwalk looking for a new hotel because the
Divi was damaged by the hurricane and the family did not want to stay that far from the boardwalk.area (Plus about 10 other things that where not acceptable upon our arrivial to the Divi)
So I walk into the Horizon and the most friendly staff helped me with showing me a couple of rooms. They gave me the cost and helped me to contact the Divi to cancel our reservation there. We had also rented a car and decided to return since we could walk and again their is no parking on this part of the island and the manager told us he would help us with parking the car at night and for us to keep it if we felt like exploring the island. So glad we did! We dined at the Boathouse one night (about 20 min drive), traveled to beaches and used the car to go to grocery store and of course back to airport.(cost about 190 for week, small toyota corolla)
We stayed in one of the penhouses (#503) and it was very large, could use some upgrading but all in all it had all you needed. The living room air conditioner was noisy. All the rooms had large queen size beds and tvs. The kitchen had all we needed to made breakfast and sometimes a quick sandwich to take to beach. The view was wonderful and walked straight out to the beach. All you need is on the boardwalk. When the ships are not in it is pretty desolite. Was a nice change-alot busier if 4 or 5 cruise ships were docked but we like watching the people and they leave the beach by 4:00pm. Most of the shopping closed by 5:30 but we had no problems finding a few resturants still open for dinner on the boardwalk. (I recommend the GreenHouse and Chesterfields) Casinos also were open --only real night life but after being in the sun all day we we shot anyway.Felt safe with sercurity guard that watched for us at night and made sure we can back from casino or dinner-nice guy.
Again cannot say enough about the staff and Gracie our cleaning lady was very friendly, which was done everyday.
Lastly, we were not hassled about the chairs/umbellas by the locals because they got used to seeing us and knew we were staying at the Horizon and the days the ships were not in we were given umbellas and bottled water by the hotel staff.
I read some of the reviews and I did not feel threatened by the locals as a matter of fact we made a few friends(they live a different life then most of us) "Hi Butterfly" and most of the night is patroled by security guards.
Got to say the first day I thought I had wrecked the vacation with the Divi decision but the Horizon came through and we had a great week doing exactly what we had planned. Thanks Ramesh

“Great Little Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2008

We took a chance and just walked into this little hotel to see if they had a vacancy for three nights after our catamaran cruise. They did and we were very pleased. The hotel is located right in the center of the action on Great Bay Beach next door to the Holland House. The rooms are not fancy, but clean and well cared for. This hotel is located on the second floor down a little hallway between the stores. You can roll out of bed and go shopping.

The Manager was great. He was so friendly and accommodating. We cannot say that much for the woman at the desk. She could use a little more training in customer relations. A little smile would have been nice.

We had a rental car and the Manager let us park it on the side of the hotel which was great because parking is non existent in Phillipsburg.

This hotel is a find. They had coffee and croissants in the morning as well as free internet. We would stay again if we go to Phillipsburg. The disappointment for us was that Phillipsburg dies at night. We had to leave town for any fun things to do. It is definitely geared to the shoppers and cruiseships during the day.

“Convenience hotel”

The hotel is centrally located on Front Street close to all the shops etc. but for the traveller/tourist who is looking for that extra comfort this is not the hotel for you. The rooms are plain, bed (twin beds in mine), tv etc. and shower (really small - turn around space only) and personally for me not a good value for the money. It was relatively clean but nothing to oooh about.

“Home away from home”

My husband and i stayed at the Horizon View Beach Hotel in August of 2004 for our 1st year anniversary. It felt like a home away from home. There was a lovely board walk with a spectacular beach a step away. The location is perfect because it is close to all the nice stores, restaurants and casinos. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to have a nice getaway and still shop.

“Loved the Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2004

My husband and i spent our honeymoon at Horizon View. At first we were told that it was a place mainly for people who came on business and not for honeymooners. However we decided to give it a try and we loved every moment of it. The front desk people were very helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely. It was just what we expected because we had already seen it on the website.

The service right down to housekeeping was excellent. We had easy access to the beach, restaurants, shops, supermarket. It was just a lovely experience and we have told all our loved ones and friends about Horizon View.

We would like to thank all the members of staff at the Horizon View for making our stay a comfortable and an enjoyable one.

We highly recommend Horizon view to all and we will be back.

Thanks much

Mr & Mrs Lester Ramlal (room 207)
