“Rebecca from Canada is a atypical .. stay home we love it here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Canadian review on Dec 25th is a gross misrepresentation. We have owned and stayed at Flamingo for over 20 years and our two week Christmas visit was our second THIS year. William at the front desk greeted us with a beaming smile and selected an oceanfront studio for our 15 night stay. He is a key reason why the service gets five stars! To set the record straight the rooms are very clean, modern and fully equipped with flat panel TVs (2) large patios and views to die for. St. Maarten is a place where you don't want to have a budget ( we allow $400 per day for the two of us for food & beverage ) probably no place for the Canadian reputation for austerity. Sour grapes, eh?

Room Tip: Even number rooms are oceanview in BLDG 7

“Incredible Ocean View and Helpful Staff”

Flamingo Beach Resort has one of the premier settings in St. Maarten with great views from units in Building 7 specifically. You definitely want to get an even numbered room.
You can easily get by without a car as many amenities - Simpson Bay harbor, small grocery store, many restaurants, a night club (Red Piano) are all within easy walking distance. Topper's waterfront restaurant on the property offers great shows featuring local performers on many Thursday nights.
We loved just sitting on our 5th floor balcony watching the beach scene, the planes landing and taking off, the large yachts/sailboats bobbing in the harbor, the various birds and a really nice studio that could easily be divided into two separate rooms.
The staff were very helpful and got us the type of room/view that we requested. The unit was well equipped and we cooked a number of meals there. Staff responded very quickly when we had a minor mechanical problem. We got first rate help with our luggage when we arrived.

Room Tip: Request building 7 and ask for an even numbered room - great view of the water and beach.

“This is a $59.99 hotel that costs $300”

Undoubtedly one of the worst hotels. The front desk staff were surly and singularly unhelpful. We arrived late in the evening with Luggage for a two week stay. The place is large and there was no offer to show us to our rooms. We were simply told to go through the parking lot and up. There was no one to help with baggage. There was no food or water available. The rooms were damp and smelled. On checkout we finally got baggage assistance but the front desk could not get their credit card machine to work and were short with us when we pointed out that we needed to catch the ferry. They appears to be fiddling with the credit card which caused us concern although it may just have been that the machine was out, but there was little or no communication from the staff so we did not know what was going on. We were supposed to stay another night but decided to cancel. I was not able to reach any of their 'friendly staff' by phone and ended up leaving a message and sending an email. The room was far too expensive for what you got. There was a strip club, casino and burgee king down the street if that is the sort of thing you are looking for ...

“Okay accomodation, incredibly rude staff. Beware.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

Stayed here for one night while enroute to Saba the following day. I do not understand how so many people have given this place positive reviews. Upon arrival in the unwelcoming lobby, we were greeted by an incredibly rude female desk clerk. No hello, no welcome to the island, she literally looked up and said "what?" Really?

The resort is made up of several buildings, however our room was not in the building with the lobby. When we asked how to get to the room, said desk clerk muttered something about walking through the parking lot and down a service corridor to find an elevator. When we asked for clarification as the directions were more than a little confusing, we had a sarcastic "do you want me to draw you a map to take two left turns?" This was complete with eye-rolling. Fortunately a pleasant maintenance employee was outside and took us to our room.

We had a suite on the top floor overlooking the private beach and cabanas. The room was massive, and the huge outdoor covered terrace was a very nice space. The place was likely very nice 10 years ago, but time is taking its toll on the interior, chipped cabinets, mismatched dishes, etc. It was clean, however. Took about 10 minutes for the hot water to come on for the morning shower.

Upon checkout the staff (different people) were just as rude as the night before. They claimed to have some sort of problem with the credit card machine, however I had to wonder if there was something else going on. Over and over they swiped the card, saying it woudn't go through. When I offered another card, I was told it wasn't the card it was their machine. This was odd as other people were checking out at the same time and their cards went through the same machine with no issue. Oddly enough, it was only when I raised the fact that we were going to miss the ferry to Saba when another clerk sitting nearby let out a heavy sigh (so put upon, being expected to do her job) came over and did something which had the card go through immediately.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. Service is everything, and the Flamingo Beach does NOT have it.

Room Tip: Try for a room with an ocean view. My room looked out over a marina area and private beach on one si...

We spent a wonderful week in a lovely one bedroom with ocean view. The place was very comfortable and very clean with all top of the line appliances et al.
I highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the water
