“Nice place to stay on Orient”

This hotel is now named St. Tropez Beach Club, which may be why there are no recent reviews.
We were awarded frequent flyer miles unexpectedly in Feb. so we made a last minute trip to our favorite island of St. Martin.
Our favorite places in Grand Case were booked, so we decided on this hotel and were not disappointed.
We prefer Grand Case because it's much quieter during the day than Orient Beach, but it was nice. The beach is less than five min. walk- very close. There's a pool that was nice as well.
The room was spacious, had a balcony (garden view, I don't think there are any water views from here), sitting area, TV (a few american stations), separate toilet, large bathroom with a half-tub, shower combo, (bring wash cloths, the french don't use them), hair dryer, fresh flowers in the vanity area. There's a safe in the room (deposit required for key), a microwave and a refrigerator. Very clean.
The location is nice- there's a shopping area within a very short walk with restaurants (we tried the Asian one and loved it), bars, shops- including a convenience store- pizza place, ice cream, you name it.
The only downsides were: no breakfast included and there wasn't too much in the area (we took a long morning stroll one morning to Club Orient's restaurant on the beach, that was nice). Most of the resorts here have signing privileges at the beach bars closeby and chairs and umbrellas provided, but that wasn't the case with this hotel. Also, the first night we were here, there was no hot water, but after that there was no problem with it.
I would stay here again, but I prefer the places we've stayed in Grand Case for my own tastes.

“Very happy at St. Tropez”

We almost cancelled our reservation at St. Tropez after reading other reviews. I'm glad we didn't! This was out 9th trip to St.Martin and we couldn't get into L'Hoste or Palm Court, where we usually stay. We were very pleased with this hotel. It isn't La Samanna, but its nice. At all the places no one is at the desk from 8pm to 7am. The rooms at St. Tropez could use some updating, but they were spotless and NO ANTS. We used the same beach, pool and restaurant as l'hoste, and chairs and umbrellas were included. The price was very reasonable and we would definitely go back there. The receptionist at the desk was pleasant and helpful. The only negative was that the 3rd floor balcony room that we had faced the courtyard across the street and was too hot to sit on during the day. But it doesn't matter, because we were at the beach most of the day anyway.

“Stayed there many years ago”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2005

My wife and I stayed there about 10-12 years ago. It is on the French side so some distance from the airport. Most of the hotels were on the Dutch side. We had transfer vouchers to get to the hotel but you could tell the driver really didn't want to go there as it wasn't close to the other hotels. The shops/restrauants were kinda snoody however we felt safe anywhere on the island at any time of day. They take crime against tourist very seriously. Public buses were very inexpensive and went about anywhere. The beaches on the French side were not as nice. We wanted to go to Anguila, you catch the ferry within walking distance of the hotel. Anguila at that time had the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Not very developed yet so fairly inexpensive. My advise if you want to shop and be where the action is stay on the Dutch side. If you want to fend for yourself this may not be a bad choice for the $.

“Total lack of service no ammenities as discribed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2004

When we arrived at this hotel, the lobby was shut down and steel
gate was locked.
We were standing there with two other couples that arrived and
no one there to give us our assigned rooms.
The phone was accesible and we called the person in charge
she said they were short handed, she would get there as soon
as she could, we all were tired hot and thirsty from our long trips.
There is no restaurants as we were told and the place is run down.
the interiors were old and rickity with drawers that dont open and
broken/ cracked, glass mirrors. The mattresses were so bad we
had backaches every morning. We left early and went elsewhere.
The lobby is only open a couple of hours a day and its the only
time you can get ice for your room, or see or speak to anyone
on site. THERE IS NO SECURITY at anytime, and the safety
deposit boxes do not work.
We were told this was a four star, it is not, we also were told
the hotel was right on the beach it is not. We would never go there again. The service was poor, and the girl at the desk, just constantly
complained on how the owners didnt pay any attention to the place
and she couldnt handle the work, she said she did everything.
Like it was our fault or our problem which it was not.
Our advice Dont go there!!!!

We had the best time ever. Slow down to island time and enjoy the hottest beach in the islands. Orient beach was wild. If you can find it on a beach you can find it here. The french staff was frindly and helpful. We have made plans to return.
