To say that I was a bit concerned to be staying here after reading the reviews is an understatement! My experience with the front desk staff was very pleasant. They were accomodating and very nice. They understood that we were wanting to enjoy a vacation/holiday! They even provided us part of our room (we had a 2 bedroom unit, one of which was what they call a Lock-out-or a seperate bedroom adjoined by locking doors) EARLY to place our bags while we enjoyed the two pools and pool bar-which was clean.
There is an elevator in the main building. It appears that when the construction is completed, there will be a total of 4-5 buildings in this resort.
The rooms themselves were clean. Bathrooms well stocked with towels and the necessities including hair dryer, toilet paper, shampoo, soap, tissues and lotion. We had a shower that was huge. The lock out room had a tub-shower combination. The water pressure is great. I took a 30 min shower the one day and had HOT water the entire time.
The bedrooms were clean with extra sheets should you need them. The beds were so-so, in terms of comfort. Ample closet space and a dresser. The drapes did block out the sun. The air conditioning unit worked well.
The kitchen was sparsely stocked with pots and pans. We had cups, both coffee and drinking in the main unit. There was a toaster and a coffee pot as well as a blender. The fridge was clean and ice trays were full. There is NO ice machine on the property at this time. The sink and faucet is a bit different than I am used to and it took me a day to figure out that to get water you needed to move the handle away from the faucet.
We did have a washer and dryer in our unit. The facility provided laundry soap-1 box per unit-which worked for 2 loads. The water pressure in the washer was not as good as the faucet and the shower. It did take a while to fill.
We had a table with 6 chairs and a living unit in the main room/unit. The couch was not comfortable and was worn. Both the bedroom in the main unit and the family room/living area opened onto one large balcony that was quite roomy. The lock out unit had a seperate balcony.
We had a huge balcony that looked out over the pool and pool bar and the sea. We had a rather tranquil view of the island of Saba.
The mosquitos were BAD. Take spray and keep the doors closed. Do not sleep with the doors open. Unfortunately, our friends did and ended up with a multitude of mosquito bites. I am not certain if the mosquitos are this bad all of the time or just due to the construction-which we NEVER heard. I will say that we kept the air conditioning units on -set a bit cooler and did not have enar as many mosquitos in our unit.
The planes taking off were heard during the day-but not at all during the night.
The pool bar (called the DREAM BAR and is owned by Marty)is FANTASTIC! It is well stocked and the hub of the pool area. The breeze is great and the view is wonderful. Marty is a GREAT asset to the resort and really provides a great wealth of knowledge of the island! We enjoyed a few days and evenings chatting with Marty and the other guests.
The area was very convenient. There is a casino in the same cull de sac which does create some traffic. There are a few restaraunts in walking distance of the facility. A Mexican open air place called Taco macho-which has awesome buritos; a french place called Le C Lounge that has a dynamic and breathtaking view and open air dining over the sea; a Chinese place that we did not visit this time-but is rumored to be fantastic; the Sunset Bar and Grill-which is voted the third best bar in the world-pizza and burgers were great. I would also say that the poppers and cheese sticks were great and one of the best values we found on the island.
You are in walking distance of the Maho (pronounced Ma' Ho). There is a Marked called Maho Market that has most everything you need for a vacation, including Mosquito repellant and Citronella candles. They bring in french bread in the early moring-get it early as it goes quickly. They also have pop, beer, wine and alcohol. Yes, they also have ice.
Many eating establishments as well as a few shops and a pharmacy in there.
All in all, this place HAS IT ALL.
We had a great experience here and am already planning our return next year!
