“charming and peaceful hideaway in lush tropical surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The welcome was very friendly, the staff were extremely attentive and courteous, the surrounds were lush and beautiful and our accommodation was relaxing, peaceful and private - just what we'd been looking for!
We stayed in Angelina Villa, a beautiful example of historic local architecture with a pretty verandah and rocking chairs to sink into whilst enjoying the magnificent garden views (and the company of the little plantation kitten who insisted on snuggling into the chairs with us!).
We went to sleep to the sound of tree frogs and night crickets, in one of the most comfortable beds I've ever been in, leaving the shutters open so that we could enjoy the balmy breezes.
All in all an ideal place to sample an authentic slice of caribbean nature and history.

“Wonderful natural experience”

Our stay at Fond Doux was everything we hoped it would be. The setting is gorgeous: luxuriant tropical gardens filled with fruit and flowers, winding pathways leading to individual cottages, breathtaking views of the rainforest and valley from our cottage (Hilltop Guava) and the lovely pool area. As other reviewers have mentioned, the resort is very rustic and natural but with enough amenities to allow a comfortable holiday. Our charming cottage had an ensuite with large shower, a fridge, and various other conveniences, but no technology other than a phone with service only within the resort. This was not an issue for us - we were seeking an unplugged experience. Omo and Katrina in reception were gracious and helpful anytime we required assistance of any type, including the use of a computer. We did have problems getting water in the shower on two occasions, but this was quickly resolved each time after a call to the office. All staff on the property were notably friendly and helpful - they gave a wonderful impression of St. Lucia.
The resort restaurant offers well prepared tasty food and the friendly service that seems to be the hallmark of Fond Doux.
We enjoyed walking throughout the plantation - there is a lovely climbing trail up to the ridge overlooking Jalousie Bay and Petit Piton that is part of the path system on the property. Also, the road to the Tet Paul site starts at the Fond Doux entrance and is a beautiful walk which rewards you with awesome views of the Pitons and the south end of the Island. The beaches at Jalousie and Anse Chastenet are both gorgeous and offer great snorkelling. Fond Doux arranged a driver for us and Marcus became our unofficial guide to Soufriere. He was reliable and charming and became an important part of our holiday. We would highly recommend him.
Thanks to everyone at Fond Doux for introducing us to the beauty of southern St. Lucia.

A WONDERFUL THANK YOU!!

Thank you for taking time out to post such positive feedback about your recent stay at Fond Doux Holiday Plantation.
It is rewarding for everyone at Fond Doux Holiday Plantation to see that you have appreciated the tropical gardens, breathtaking views of the rainforest and valley from your cottage.

You have noticed that a common thread in most reviews like yours is the simple word” Rustic”. The details mentioned in your review captures the essence of the property - it seems that you enjoyed more or less of everything we have on offer and had a unique combination of relaxation and an action packed week.

It is hoped that you will find time to return to our Tropical Garden of Eden and to introduce family and friends to the numerous attributes of Fond Doux Holiday Plantation.

Best Regards

“Authentic St Lucia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

If you love getting an authentic taste of food and culture when you travel--this is the place. The people here are wonderful and will do anything to make sure you have a great visit. From Omo and Indira at the front desk to Lyon, Philip, Milton, and the rest who manicure the grounds, ensure you have fresh fruit daily, and keep the quaint cabins looking great, and the rum drinks full and sweet. We loved our stay at Fond Doux. The food at the restaurant was some of the best we had on the island. You'll also love Dasheene at Ladera and Jalousie. This part of the island is a lightly populated garden oasis compared with the congested, cruise ship, large resort, commercialized areas north of Canaries. You'll fall asleep to the sounds of the rain forest, enjoy nice hiking right from the resort and easy trips to the beaches and snorkeling at Jalousie and Anse Chastanet. Just a phenomenal trip. Thanks to all the people at Fond Doux for such a great trip. It is also much nicer to stay on the outskirts just south of Soufriere. It is easy to get to the volcano and beaches and to all the other great restaurants around. You can stay here for far less than the others but spend all day at the beaches of the resorts that cost 4x as much. This is a great value and a charming place where the people genuinely care.

Room Tip: Stay south of Canaries for the best experience of St Lucia.

AUTHENTIC THANK YOU

We genuinely and sincerely thank you for your positive and refreshing review of this St.Lucian gem. Fonddoux Plantation is indeed located in an oasis surrounded by lovely beaches, restaurants and nature walks. We endeavour to maintain pockets of authentic and lush landscapes apparent here as certain parts of the world become more developed and concrete.

We pledge to continue in our efforts to produce more fruits and organic greens as evidenced in our Jardin Cacao restaurant. Philip has planted some new lettuce, string beans and tomatoes. The papaya are also ripening right now and we will have a bumper crop of cacao next week.

We thank you for the realization that we genuinely care and truly appreciate the time taken to write this review.

We thank you: Lyton and Eroline Lamontagne

“back to Nature :)”

We loved our stay at Fond Doux! Falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest was so relaxing. Swimming as you look out at forested mountains was breath-taking. There is no AC in the room, but the fan was more than adequate and helped to keep the bugs away. There is no TV or internet in the rooms, so you are forced to relax and just enjoy nature (wifi by the pool and at the Front Desk). There's a bowl of organic fruit to enjoy, and they even allow you to pick the fruit off the trees! Every single person who works there gives you their most personalized attention. Loveleah, the bartender, was so much fun to talk to. The restaurant and bar onsite are good, but breakfast takes a long time to be prepared, so make sure you wake up early enough to catch the beach shuttle at 10am. They shuttle you to Jalousie Beach, and the beach there is one of the best on the Island. The snorkeling at Jalousie is amazing because it is a Marine Reserve. Also, if you don't have a car, you can walk to both Sulfur Springs and the Tet Paul Nature trail within 30 minutes of Fond Doux, although you have to walk on the grass next to the road. You can also walk to Ladera to have a drink and watch the sunset over the Pitons. The paths are all dirt or gravel, so I would not recommend Foud Doux to anyone with mobility restrictions. We didn't get a chance to take the free Plantation tour, but we are definitely planning on going back!

“Charming”

If you like your vacations rustic and authentic, this is the place for you.

My family stayed for four nights just before xmas and we all enjoyed it. The room was a large hut with plenty of character, the staff personable and friendly, the rainforest setting beautiful. Restaurant and breakfast food was good, pools the jewel in the crown. It was a nice place to hang out and do nothing much. Also recommended is Jalousie Beach, 10 minutes drive away. Very classy and not too busy. Less recommended is the town of Soufriere, not really geared up for tourists, although the boat ride from there to Jalousie was an experience.

Special mention goes to Beverly in the restaurant, she kept our two year old amused as we tried to eat our evening meals (it was past his bedtime by then, and he was in no mood to sit still). You can't buy that kind of thing, and for us it reflected the character and feel of the place and why you go there and not somewhere slick like Hotel Chocolate near by. And regards to Bouncy and Socks, my boy misses you.

Room Tip: Bring bug spray!
