“Nice place on the beach near to the Town”

We stayed the first few days at the Jalousie Plantation, a 6 star resort not far from Soufriere, fantastic, but also wanted some time in town to see the real St Lucia.
When we arrived it looked a little run down and a bit of a shock after what we had come from, but when you get used to it, it’s a nice little hotel. The staff are nice and friendly and the room was clean enough and it did what we wanted, be a base at a low cost in town.
There are no sun beds and you can’t use the beach outside due to it being where the local lads congregate. We found that there is another resort about a 2 mile walk away up the hill where you can use their beach for free, but take your own towels as they charge 5usD for each rent, took us 35 mins.
Food was not good, breakfast is ok but very limited, and there was not much on the menu, when we were there, it was all off! But there is another hotel next door where the food is ok. All in all, it’s a good base in town. Would I go again..Yes.

“Can't beat the view from the Beach House”

We were there for a week between Christmas and Newyears and had a great time. Our bed was big and comfortable, when we arrived there where fresh flowers everywhere, nice touch. Because we arrived on Christmas day and everything was closed they had arranged to bring us dinner in our room without us even asking, what great customer service!! The owner David was very friendly and was there almost very morning and always stopped by our table at breakfast to say hello. Breakfast was great, no menu but always a good hot meal with a couple of choices of eggs, french toast etc. and fresh jucie everyday. Our balcony had the greatest view of the bay and Petite Piton, we never knew what to expect when we went out, there where sail boats, tall ships, even a cruise ship one night. Location could not be beat, we could walk to town in just a few minutes, which included Diamond Waterfall, right next door was the Hummingbird Resort, which had a nice pool and restaurant , and just around the corner or up the hill was Anse Chastanet beach and Resort and Jade Mountain Resort. We walked to Jade Mountain (which was amazing) but it was a pretty brutal walk with steep inclines, but you could take a water taxi which would me faster and easier. We did have "Purgy" take us to Jalousie Resort by boat later in the week and we had a great time, very friendly guy who is always easy to find at the beach house. All in all we had a great week, we did have a few hot water issues but who needs a hot shower when its 100 degrees anyway!! We found the staff very friendly and helpful, they are not chatty but if you ask they are more than happy to help with any questions or requests, Rebecca was our go to girl and did a great job. Just remember this is a beach house, not an all inclusive, if that's what you are looking for you need to go to the North end of the Island, but if you want a fantastic view, friendly staff, and see the "real" Island of St. Lucia this was the perfect place to stay.

Check in was seamless and the owner/ manager and staff were accessible and professional.

In fact the Manager vulunteered on two occasion to dropped us in his own vehicle into town and to Diamond Water Fall

The new year was well spent with great meals, even the cook was extremely friendly and preparedyour meal the way you liked it

Food at the Resturant was affordable, drinks also. Room service and breakfast were great

The view if the Piton was excellent and beach was marvelous

I say Still Beach House is our of St Lucia's greatest attraction that has been overlooked

“Not the best place on earth, but still good”

We stayed at the Still Beach for 5 nights. The room wasn't bad. It was well setup when we arrived. It is almost on the beach with an awesome view of the Petit Piton.

Good: Excellent staff. Rebecca is one of the staff members who was very friendly and helpful. The chef was also excellent. Since we are vegetarians, every night he made something different for dinner. They were very accommodating. There is another staff member (who's name I forgot). He gave us a nice tour of the Still Beach Plantation. He was super knowledgeable and gave us so much information about the plantation and St.Lucia. We had a wonderful experience. Since we are from India, we are big fans of Mangoes. While we were there the Mango season was about to start. Finding ripe mangoes was very difficult. But he got 3 mangoes that were mind blowing. We hadn't had such mangoes in years since we moved to the US. The staff also got us some other fruits. On our final day, the chef made us fresh guava jam. So nice of him.
The owner's family is well reputed and well known in Soufriere. If you go to Diamond Botanical Gardens for a Mineral Bath, you can get a private room for mineral bath that is not open to general public/ tourists (provided you are on good terms with the owner of Still Beach).

Bad: Bathroom of the room is a bit small. There are some plumbing issues, but were workable. Sometimes we had issues with hot water. Also, there are a few openings through the window which would let mosquitoes in at night.

Summary: Great location on the beach with spectacular views. Very good price. Extremely good staff. Not so great rooms.

“Quite an Experiance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Still Beach Resort Hotel - A misnomer if ever there was one, except for the fact that it is located on a beach! No swimming pool, no sun-loungers etc. The previous comments in Trip Advisor (fleas, security etc) gave us a little bit of concern about the Still Beach and our “welcome” reinforced this concern. The “receptionist” only used three words (name, follow me) throughout the whole process of check in and showing us the room. No “good afternoon, welcome, did you have a good flight, can I help with luggage” despite my attempts at chatting there was no response – perhaps she was fulfilling a bet!.
So by the time we were in the room we were feeling we had made a mistake in choosing the Still Beach House, however the room was fine, it had a large four poster bed, a large fridge, an excellent shower. The view from the room was great (we had a sea facing room). The WiFi also worked well.
Later I braved a different receptionist to ask about dinner, again she was very unhelpful, no menu and not sure when it would be served, so we ate elsewhere in the town
On our last night (of four) we did eat dinner in, as there was a big noisy party happening in the town. Another classic conversation with the staff “What do you want for dinner?” “What have you got” - blank look from waitress – then “Well we have fish or chicken” we have no idea how we were supposed to know that, no menu or menu board, the food was edible and fairly cheap.

On one morning I came across the owner/manager, he completely ignored me (there were only a handful of guests so there is no excuse, just a “hello is everything OK” would suffice) so with leadership like that no wonder the staff don't seem to care.

We did not have any hassle from locals on the beach. Some will ask if you want to go fishing or buy some trinkets but they take no as an answer. The sand on the beach is very coarse so it would not be good for a beach based holiday with children.

So would I recommend the Still Beach House? If you want to be based in Soufriere then Yes provided you have a sense of humour!!,
1. The rooms are clean with linen changed every day (no fleas – there are lots of small bugs which bite but that was a problem everywhere we went in St Lucia so wear lots of repellant.
2. The location is great, walking distance to Soufriere but in a quiet “corner” right on the beach and a fantastic view. Most of the posher hotels in the area don't have a beach and being out of town you have to drive everywhere, not recommended if you want a couple of beers with your dinner.
3. The breakfasts are basic, again no menu available, but OK (pancakes, scrambled egg, bacon or sausage)
4. The poor staff interaction became quite amusing in the end, don't get wound up just treat it as a game – try and get them to smile (and whatever you do don't ask for sausage AND bacon at breakfast!

And ps... if you read this at Still House, we didn't steal any towels, the dirty ones weren't replaced a couple of times. I gave up asking for more.
