“Beautiful location & view but many issues to consider, overpriced!”

We arrived at Stonefield following a lovely 40 minute drive from Vieux Fort. The location is great, with a view to the petit piton on one side and the town of Soufriere on the other. Very quiet, green relaxed environment. Reception was quick in the center cabin and we were than escorted to our room. Room itself was very big and included a great balcony facing the valley (with an awesome hammock) and a nice little private pool facing the valley. There was a large nicely equipped kitchen, big bedroom and outdoor shower. One thing pretty easily noticeable is that the bathroom is not closed by a full wall from the rest of the “apartment” and connected to both bedroom and kitchen via mutual walls, BAD planning IMO.Furthermore closets really left bad smell on cloths, we left things in the suitcases.

Our issues with Stonefield revolved around the “fine touches”, attitude and the dining. We found the onsite restaurant to be of rather low quality although very presumptuous on both price (min $100 / couple without wine for 2 course dinner) and description of items. Location although offering a great view was never really sealed against the strong winds and rain which are very common in St. Lucia.
Staff here seemed to really want to move fast “in out”, and the music was TERRIBLE, why in the world would you keep playing the best of Barbara Streisand and Paul Young when the Caribbean is blessed with so much good music. Staff claimed “that’s what guests want’, yah right!
We felt the room REALLY lacked amenities (very low level shower gel and shampoo that were not even refilled daily), water heater did not work 3 out of 4 nights even after we commented. No Wi FI in the room (they claim its policy for our relaxation but honestly not a big fan of sitting at the outdoor reception or restaurant in the rain / wind getting emails)
The vibe in this place was that they are “cheap” , for $500 / night you can expect very nice toiletries, something more than two supermarket cookies for a welcome and some kind of discount on the super over priced meals or spa.
The hotel is rather far from the beach (Jalousie is the best around and the road is super complicated and sometime impossible to drive, during rain) .
Jalousie charge $20 / day / person for beach chairs and can’t even give parasols. However the beach is beautiful and food there is much better than Stonefield. We would expect Stonefield to have a real agreement in place for their guests to get complementary access to beach chairs.
To summarize:
Very nice place but unless there is an attitude change I recommend to look for better value on the Island. For example see my review of TiKaya.

Room Tip: View is great from all I think but the in room pool was not needed (cold) in Febuary

“Super relaxing and very private...”

If you're looking for a near-perfect escape that's very private and not quite as expensive as Ladera, Jalousie and especially Jade Mountain, you'll enjoy Stonefield. We found it super relaxing and many days (after the delicious breakfast) we lazed around in the hammock overlooking the Petite Piton, or the chaise lounges and took brief dips in the private plunge pool. We really liked that there was a lot of private outdoor space to enjoy. When you arrive, they give you beads that you can put on the outside door to your cottage and the staff won't disturb you. The staff is super-helpful too. When I inquired about whether there was a yoga mat that I could borrow, one of the staffers (Sadia) offered to bring in her personal mat. We weren't there for nightlife, but if you are looking for that, it is kind of slim pickings, other than nice dinners. But if you're looking for a great place to relax that won't cost you $1,000 a night, you won't go wrong here.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Oleander cottage and it was great: a near-perfect view of the Petit Peton from the...

“Quiet relaxation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My wife and I just returned from staying at Stonefield Estate in St. Lucia. We stayed in the Orchid villa which had its own Infinity pool which looked onto Petit Piton. The villa was very nice, bed comfortable with a mosquito net as the bathroom shower was partially open, but completely private despite that.

The restaurant Mango Tree serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We generally ate Breakfast and Dinner. For Breakfast they had nice fresh juices, I usually had the Piton Special which was two eggs scrambled, but you can get them any style with potatoes and ham or sausages. I also had the Stonefield Favorite which was a Toasted Baguette with Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese and Scrambled eggs. It was quite different from anything I normally had, but quite good. Dinners were very good as well I especially enjoyed the Blackened Tuna. My favorite drink was the TI Ponche which is a strong rum mixed with lime juice and honey.

The hotel will book a complimentary taxi at four specified times to Jalouise Beach, 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. You should bring a few bucks to tip the driver. Jalousie beach is technically public, but you cannot use any of the hotel's nice chairs. They let you rent some less than attractive chairs for $20 a piece. There are free chairs on the rocky side of the beach which is frequented by Snorkeling tours from Soufriere. Buy a Piton from the local vendors and do some snorkeling, gear is also rented.

There is a beach closer to Stonefield which you can get to by walking down the steep road off the back exit of the hotel driveway. The beach has a mix of fine sand to a more rocky. Harmony's is sometimes open which we were able to drink some Piton's on their nice deck overlooking the harbor.

You can arrange to do a more adventurous activity with the hotel reception desk. We chose to climb Gros Piton. Make sure you get an early start because it gets hotter the later you go. We scarfed down breakfast at 7:30am and departed at 8. The hotel taxi will drop you off and get you with a guide. Bring lots of water and snacks in a small backpack. The trail is very well maintained, but sometimes the steps go nearly straight up the mountain. We made it to the top, but 30% do not make it.

“Ideal place to relax”

We stayed in Manchineel which was a beautiful room with fabulous views. We were delighted to be there as we had only booked a garden view room. Loved the bananas growing in the outdoor shower. The room has A/C. The hotel has really tried hard to provide everything you need for a relaxing stay and with the private plunge pool you hardly need venture anywhere. We had a car so did quite a bit of exploring and there is a lot to visit in the area. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant very much, though like most of Soufriere, we found it expensive.

“Amazing!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Stonefield Estates was amazing. We had the pleasure of visiting this resort in Early December.

Pictures can not describe this hidden gem of a resort. It is in the southern part of the island.
We pulled up to the resort and were greeted by the general manager Paul.
After checking in, we were given some Starfish punch (which was amazing), and drove down to our villa by our cab driver. We stayed in Flamboyant Villas which was amazing. We walked into the villa and were blown away by the view.

Right in front of us was a view of the Petite Piton and a 180 degree view of the Caribbean Sea. We were shown around the villa and realized we were staying in paradise. The view of the villa was so stunning it made my wife almost cry from tears of joy.

Our villa was huge and we felt like we had our own little property staying at the resort. We had own our 9 foot pool, which we spend several hours in, and we enjoyed swimming in the pool and floating on a raft we think a previous guest left. Our only complaint about the pool area was that the pool light at night didn't work. One day, we ran into the maintenance manager and told him of our issue, so I'm sure it is fixed by now. Our villa had a huge outdoor deck with a hammock and table ad chairs. We could of stayed in the hammock all day and just admired the view.

Inside the villa, we had our own living room and kitchen area with full utensils, plates, etc. We are only sorry that we didn't get to stop at the supermarket before we got there. Otherwise, we could have had several meals right at the villa enjoying the view. When we arrived at the villa, it was decorated with fresh flowers and a sign saying "Welcome Home", which was a nice touch. The bedroom area was large too, and the villa had several ceilings fan to keep us cool. Our villa had air conditioning in the bedroom which was needed during the day. The air condition unit was very powerful and keep us cool. The bed was very comfortable and was surrounded by mosquito netting which we used at night. Their was also candles in the villa as well you could use to create a romantic setting.

The villa also had a private outdoor shower. Our outdoor shower had a little garden growing in it which was really neat. There was places to hang your towels and robes (Yes, they were in the villa too) in the outdoor shower area as well.

I believe Stonefield has around 18 villas and our villa felt very private and you couldn't here or see your neighbors at all. At night, we would here the soothing sounds of the tree frogs which would put us to sleep. One day we walked the grounds to the little nature trail they have on property which is about a 10 min easy walk to hieroglyphics. Stonefield has a pool area near the Mango Tree Restaurant. However, most guest tend to stay at their own villa so the only time you see the other guests is at the restaurant.

The Mango Tree Restaurant was up a slight hill from our villa, so we walked off the wonderful food that we had from each mill. The food was amazing and very filling. Breakfast included fresh fruits, breads, fruit jams, and various kinds of eggs or pancakes (Mango, Coconut, etc.). The menu varies every couple of days so their is always new things on the menu.
The Roti for lunch was very good and the dinners were amazing. Since it got dark earlier in Dec when we were there, we had dinner every night by candlelight in the main dining area or under the moonlight by the pool. It was a really romantic setting. We spoke to Paul the general manager at most meals, and he is a really nice guy who takes good pride in Stonefield Estates making sure the resort is running smoothly. He even called the general manager of the next resort we were staying at and put in a good word for us. He mentioned that all the fruits and veggies are grown on property and the seafood is caught locally as well. So, all the food is super fresh.

The front desk staff of Valna, Sadia,Susan and Karan were very friendly and helped us with all our needs. One night, we got locked out of our villa and the staff walked us down to our villa and helped us get back in to our resort. Our only complaint was that the front desk was up a hill from our villa. They did provide phones for us during our stay, but I couldn't figure them out, so I would constantly walk to the front desk to ask for towels, soap, etc.. You have to request turn down service at night, where they will spray your room for bugs and turn down the bed for night. We just stopped by the front desk before we headed to dinner.

We also used the shuttle service the resort provides to take us to Jalousie Plantation. We were able to use Jalousie Plantation beach. Our shuttle was about 40 mins late in picking us up. The trip from Stonefield to Jalousie is about 8 mins.

Their is also security walking around the resort so we felt pretty safe when we were there. The resort is built into a hill so my suggestion would be to bring comfortable shoes. The resort gets dark at night so remember where your villa is as well before you head to dinner or you will wonder around like we did after our first dinner looking for your villa.

All in all, Stonefield Villas was an amazing place to stay and we would highly recommend this place to anybody.
