“trying hard to please”

After a lenghty journey to get to the hotel we were greeted warmly by the reception team, although our room was not ready. We were a little early so ambled down for lunch. We were given two rooms with very nice views towards the Pitons and the sea,and generally everything was spotless and inviting.Later on we noted that the shower was rather past its sell by date and that the water did not drain away as the floor was lower than the drain !Alas, the bath looked a bit odd,and as it did not have a plug I guess it had not been used too much.
There was a nice balcony with plunge pools, and these were very comfortable,as was the whole villa which was very spacious.
We were on an all inclusive basis, but alas even a soft drink out of the mini bar was an extra, which I know caused a few fellow guests to get upset.I hasten to add that the all inclusive package is expensive, and for some guests it worked out more economical to go on a bed and breakfast basis and pay for other meals and drinks.
The staff throughout the resort were always helpful, and we found the food and service was first class.Dinners were a pleasant way to end a day,and the bar facilities were very comfortable and relaxing.
Service on the beach was also excellent with good facilities, comfortable sun beds, and helpful water sports personnel
Worth another visit !

“No words to describe how amazing this resort is!!”

My husband and I just returned last night from Jalousie after 5 days...and it was absolute perfection from start to finish. Upon arrival, we learned that we were upgraded (!!!) to a beachfront bungalow, and were met by our butler Aquinas (who was amazing and treated us like royalty, and made us feel right at home) with rum punch to kick off our vacation!

The beach bungalows are unbelievable..brand new, impeccably clean, and so private. We had our own beach area (private to us), which was amazing. The rest of the resort's beach is amazing as well. Great snorkeling, water sports, and views of both Petit and Gros Pitons. We ate in each of the restaurants at Jalousie, all of which were amazing...and The Great Room is not to be missed for cocktails at sunset and dinner.

The Rainforest Spa is an absolute must! Great way to start our vacation and just relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Although there's no need to leave the resort for anything, we did venture out a few times to climb Gros Piton (tough but worth it if you can endure 4 1/2 hours of hiking in the humidity) and for dinner at Ladera's Dashenee (NOT worth it...terrible service...so disappointed after hearing such great things...don't waste your time or money in our opinion) and Hotel Chocolat's Boucan (one of our favorite restaurants ever).

We had incredible weather as well! It rained for about 30 seconds per day, and then the sun came back out.

The only downfall of the trip was that the airport (Hewannora) is awful...worst one we've been to. Tiny and really poorly organized, but after 5 days in beautiful St. Lucia, it was hard to be annoyed at anything!

We will 100% be returning to Jalousie, in a beach bungalow, requesting Aquinas! Already looking forward to it!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet! You really can't go wrong!

“High class, but some issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2012

A nice hotel in a spectacular position, but some issues unfortunately.
The hotel is in a steep valley between the two Pitons, rooms are in groups, 500s, 600s 700s 800s etc with the higher numbers generally being higher up the hillside and a long way from the sea, I would guess maybe 300 ft **vertically** above sea level. It’s not really possible to walk up and down often from that height so you have to get organised. The hotel has a series of shuttle buses/jeeps which are very efficient and easy with friendly and helpful drivers…but it still a bit of a bind to go up and down frequently. The villas are really excellent in every way but many don’t have a sea view, though the pitons are in view. The beachside *rooms* are low, near the beach and main complex and worth considering. The new beachside *villas* are actually right on the beach but a little disappointing, not in the jalousie cottage style of the rest of the hotel, not very private and overlooked from a road at the back. They may mature but we preferred being in the villas up the hill. Food is good without being great in the beach restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we ate there most of the time. In the main building is the Great Room fine dining restaurant, very elegant and attractive with a pleasant bar alongside, but the food was disappointing unfortunately. There is a snack bar for beach lunches. The hotel has a good pool near the beach and an attractive beach but it is now a little small for the expanded hotel and can feel a bit crowded. There are not enough sunshades for everyone and they are mostly “reserved” before breakfast by guests who put a flip-flop and magazine to secure their place. This is a major problem which the hotel management should address. When we were there all sun umbrellas were reserved early and many stayed unused for a long time. There is a little shade from trees apart from the umbrellas but not much. The sun loungers have a design which makes them difficult to move and they take up a lot of space and the canvas material gets wet when it rains and takes a while to dry out. The beach is attractive but these issues spoil it a little. I think many guests retreat to their private pools at the hillside villas. There were plenty of children when we were there and the hotel seems child friendly. The hotel staff are generally very pleasant but I did not see many managers around. Overall a very good hotel with attractive hillside villas in a lovely position, but not as good as it could be.

Room Tip: The highest villas are very high and can only be reached by buggy for most people, some villas dont...

“Perfect Honeymooon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2012

My husband and I recently traveled to St. Lucia/Jalousie Plantation for our honeymoon. I can not speak highly enough of this resort! Our honeymoon was everything we hoped for and more.

A few highlights/comments:

- The hotel arranged a taxi to pick us up at the airport and take us straight to our villa (Luxury Villa #702...or what the resort workers call "702...the room with the view!") We were met by our personal butler who offered us Rum Punch and gave us a tour of our villa. This place was AMAZING!!! The decor is absolutely gorgeous and very much what I pictured having while in the islands. It was fully stocked with everything we needed...from shampoo to hair dryers to an I-Pod dock. There are no words to describe the view we had. Absolutely breath taking. And we had our own yard and outdoor shower...along with the plunge pool. See pictures attached.

- I have read a few comments on here where people have complained about waiting for the golf carts to come pick you up and take you down to the resort/restaurants. In a week of staying there, we never had an issue of waiting more than 3 minutes for someone to pick us up when we called. If you aren't patient enough to wait 3 minutes max and enjoy the beautiful scenery while you wait, you are in the wrong place! Another plus to the golf cart ride is that it's a beautiful drive down and up. Not to mention, the drivers were some of the nicest people we met the entire time there....huge thanks to Michael and Terry :)

-The food was amazing! Absolutely no complaints there! We did the all-inclusive plan and highly recommend it. The last thing you want to think about when on vacation is how much one drink costs. And if you think food/drinks are too expensive...you know the costs up front (menus and prices are listed on their website) so you shouldn't be surprised when you get there. Our favorite thing on the menu was at lunch at the Bayside Bar: raw tuna appetizer! And something we didn't know, you get free champagne every night at the Great Room for free...nice added touch :)

- As far as tips go, we did some research on this and decided not to tip (because they include 10% in all the food/drink prices) but did at the end of the trip decide to tip some workers that stood out to us and were extra friendly and helpful.

- Excursions: (all set up through the hotel): sunset cruise (this was amazing and you get all the booze/rum drinks you want! and some munchies...money well spent); Gros Piton Hike (AMAZING!! The views were breath taking! However, it was very hard!! I'm a marathon runner and this was even hard for me. It's pretty much a straight up hike/climb and then you have to come down. Our guide said only 25-30% who start out make it to the top. All this to say it was amazing and absolutely worth the sore muscles the next day :); Rain forest Spa (HAVE TO DO!!! The best spa I have ever been to by far and totally worth the money. We had the couples massage in our own bungalow that opened up to a private jacuzzi/waterfall and outdoor shower); Friday Night Fish Fry in Anse Le Raye (we were recommended this by several people, however it was our least favorite thing. It's definitely neat to see some more of the local scenes but I guess it's what you expect a local island fish fry to be like...crowded, dirty, very exotic menus like fish with skin/eyes/tails on, turtle, whole lobsters, etc., and there were poor hungry homeless doggies everywhere...being a HUGE advocate for homeless dogs this was really hard for me :( Also, the drive out there is about an hour...another downfall. But our taxi cab driver was awesome and actually ended up hanging out with us at the fish fry! If this is your scene it can definitely be neat! Just not for us :); Sulfur Springs/mud baths (this was amazing! and something we learned while there....you don't have to book this through the spa (and pay $400 +) for 2 of you to go as we thought we had to. You can actually book a tour of the Sulfur springs through the hotel (this is only $8/person) and then go the mud baths at the end of the tour (which is another $5 per person) but totally worth it! Warning...the mud baths are HOT!!!); and last but not least we tried Boucan at Hotel Chocolat right outside of Jalousie. We were recommended this restaurant because they serve chocolate in everything...while it's a neat idea and somewhere worth trying, it wasn't our favorite either. Just very different and we would have rather stuck to our all-inclusive. They serve you stuff like chocolate vidalia onion soup....like I said interesting to try but not our fav.

- If there was anything to disappoint us (I hate to even mention these because we really did have an amazing time) it would be these things:

- We were under the impression our villa would be a single villa (with no neighbors) however it was a duplex with another family staying right next to us. We never saw or heard them so it really didn't matter but we were under the wrong impression.

- We both were extremely surprised to see how many children were at this resort. This is absolutely not Jalousie's fault at all but it was something we were not expecting. It never bothered us and it actually turned out to be something we somewhat enjoyed because we loved getting to hear their accents (we were some of the few Americans there..most people were from England) but again, just not something you expect from a small boutique resort that exudes romance on the website.

- FYI, room service does not exist under the all-inclusive plan. We didn't realize this and were a little disappointed to learn this. It is available but you have to pay full price (even if you are on the all-inclusive plan) plus a $5 delivery fee. Not a big deal but something that did disappoint.

- The most disappointing thing was miscommunication with the butler service. On 3 different occasions we made dinner reservations (one the at Great Room, one at the Bayside Bar and one at Boucan at Hotel Chocolat) through the butler services and each time it was messed up. At the 2 Jalousie restaurants they had us at a different time and then not on there at all. At Hotel Chocolat they had us for the totally wrong day. None of this caused problems and every place was able to accommodate us at the correct time but it was a bit frustrating.

Overall, we highly recommend Jalousie Plantation!! If we had to do it all over again, I would still pick Jalousie for our honeymoon. The people and service (despite our few setbacks) were amazing and some of the friendliest people! We hope to be back one day in the future!!

Room Tip: Luxury Villa #702 has an incredible view!

We wanted a beautiful, relaxing spot with lots of natural beauty.....Wow, did we pick the right place. The website makes everything look so inviting and when we arrived it far exceeded our expectations. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and attentive without being in your face or over the top. Great snorkeling literally a short walk to the end of the beach right at the base of the piton.....beautiful, interesting coral reef and great variety of fish...couldn't be more convenient or entertaining. The spa is a set up as a series of tree houses and is a lovely spot to decompress, relax and indulge in the senses. The best part for us was the food.....we came with quite a number of food allergies and sensitivities...The chef met us on the first day and was excited about the challenges we offered him. Every single meal was tailored for us without the slightest hint that it was an inconvenience or anything out of the ordinary...whatever we wanted or needed was offered beatifully and pleasantly. It made our stay a complete pleasure.
I rarely revisit vacation spots as there are so many to explore...but I would definitely return...the island has much to offer and it would be nice to return.
The staff, service and accommodations were excellent and I would be sure to seek out other properties by Viceroy, the parent company...if they are anything like Jalousie we will be more than pleased!!

Room Tip: Many of the rooms are in the hills with views of the water. Don't be discouraged by the steepne...
