“An Extraordinary Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

We just spent a week at Le Gallerie with a family of six (kids from 15 to 8) and can’t say enough great things about it. For us, the words “relaxing” and “breathtaking” aren’t usually used to describe the same vacation so this was a very unique getaway. The ocean vistas, the Pitons, the flowers, the hummingbirds, rainbows, and sunsets all seem to be right out of central casting for tropical paradise….and that is without leaving the villa!
The owners were very helpful and accommodating in answering our many (and often last minute) questions as well as offering up great recommendations for local drivers, fishing, etc. It is obvious that they are also very discerning in choosing and maintaining the wonderful and friendly people working at the property. Brian, the property manager, was there when we arrived to give us the overview and always available by phone to answer our questions. Sharmaine’s cooking was a treat and she was able to make absolutely fantastic meals that met our large breadth of palates, which is a challenge. Catherine and Tiki went about their activities with big smiles. Albert, the night watchman, was a great person, very friendly and more than willing to answer all of our kid’s questions (and there were many) about life on the island before helping us close up the house and heading out for his nightly duties.
The pre-order groceries and dinner allowed us to get into vacation mode immediately upon arrival so we would highly recommend this. We did not rent a car but rather had a driver arranged for us by Brian who would either take us around and wait for us or come back and fetch us as necessary. Everything that was arranged for us was friendly, professional, and punctual. We did a half day fishing and snorkeling trip out of Souffriere and thought it was great. We had the whole family on board and it was nice both to see the island from the water and to get an up close view of some of the “super-yachts” that frequent the bay as we came back in to go snorkeling between the Pitons.
The walk down to the resort (Anse Chastenet) from the villa is about 5-10 minutes but seems a lot longer coming back up. It is probably worth a few bucks to have a taxi bring you back up the hill but we were too proud. We snorkeled at the resort (top notch) and had lunch which was good but the two lunches cost us half as much as our entire food bill at the house for the week. Our favorite thing to do was simply to head down to the private rock beach below the property for world class snorkeling and then come back up and hang out by the pool. The path down to the water from the villa would be tough for the grandparents but we loved it as it added to the fun and adventure. The late afternoons were reserved for beers and rum punches by the pool as we watched the kids swim and the cruise ships come into the bay for sunset views of the Pitons. As earlier comments noted, it was hard to get back to the real world.

“Great House, Great Town”

We stayed here right after attending a friends wedding at Sandals Regency, and I wish we would have spent the whole time at this house. Bernard the driver was very helpful, fair priced, and reliable. The daytime staff prepared us some excellent local food, and kept the house spotless. Albert the night watchmen, was the best of them all, making us feel safe and secure at each night of our stay. The owner was a great resource for activity ideas and answers to our questions. As far as the house is concerned, it accommodated our large group nicely. All bedrooms had bathrooms in the unit, and the living and dining area were big enough for us all to enjoy each others company, with out feeling like we were on top of each other. The snorkeling below was fun, but the black sand beach (a 15 minute walk away) was awesome, Crystal clear waters and great views. I recommend this house to anyone looking for true st. lucia experience, and want to avoid paying for overpriced all inclusive resorts.

By the way, feel sorry for the previous poster that had valuables stolen, But we had no issues with this. We did not all consistently use the safes, and had valuables in every room, nothing was taken from any of us.

“An amazing place, in an amazing place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

We stayed for 10 days in October 2009 and have been congratulating ourselves on that particular choice from the moment we drove through the gates.

When we arrived we were greeted by the wonderful staff who immediately made us feel welcome and began our transition from travellers to revellers.

From taxi to front door we saw an attractive house in gated grounds but there was little to prepare us, walking through into the open areas, for the view.
The photos available on the websites give you an idea of what to expect, but to stand where they were taken and to see for yourself, is the beginning of a truly amazing holiday in the Caribbean.

Our rooms were wonderful. Walking through them the one thing that took the eye from the way they were prepared for us was the view from the balcony. The sight of the Pitons and the Ocean, from a position you feel is just yours, has to be seen to be believed.

The spectacle of the Pitons and the view of the Ocean disappearing away to the horizon could be seen from almost everywhere in and around the house. The Sunrises and Sunsets were breathtaking and should not be missed, because every one that you are lucky enough to watch takes you another step into a holiday to remember.

The pool and deck area is a very special place to begin to unwind and ease into the St Lucia pace of life. Whether you want to lounge in the sun, read, swim, eat drink or just chat. It’s a tough choice, but beware the Rum Punches, they can sneak up on you.

The town of Soufriere isn’t far away and is thoroughly charming with a range of shops, restaurants and bars. And visits into town offered the opportunity to meet the local people, who were always friendly and welcoming.

Although they were recommended, we didn’t take any of the trips out to see the Volcano, or adventure into the Rain Forrest, or even to go out on the boat trips that were available (we hope to have something to say about those next time). But diving with Chester, from Action Adventure Divers, on the local reefs and wrecks added some great activity and went some way to ease the waist-line conscience when sitting down to dinner and to balance the softer side of an incredibly relaxing break.

If you want to go to somewhere spectacular, where you can really unwind at whatever pace that suits, with options to be more active if you feel the need, and to wake each day to a view that will stay with you forever, then Le Gallerie gets a massive tick in the box from us.

A word of warning.

Have someone from home call you the day before you’re supposed to leave.

Trust me, you’ll need a reminder. We HAD to leave, another group were due after us, otherwise……..??

“Loved Le Gallerie and it's staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2008

Just returned from a great vacation at Le Gallerie. The pictures on the internet are wonderful but when you get there and walk in it actually takes your breath away. The beauty of the house and the view of the Pitons from every room was fabulous.
The staff was wonderful too. We all felt like we had known them for years and then having to leave at the end felt like you were moving away from family. Shermaine's cooking was absolutely the best. When we got there she had cooked us dinner even thou we didn't ask for it. It was Creole chicken and it was the best I had ever tasted. All of her dishes were wonderful and full of flavor. Trust me when I say don't waste your time going out to eat. Just let her do the cooking and grocery shopping. It is well worth it and so much cheaper and better tasting.
Catherine the house keeper kept the house clean and fresh. She decorated our beds each night with flower degigns.
And last but not least Casey....what a happy person. I think he had us laughing just as much as we had him laughing. Our husbands loved him and he fit right in with them.
On the last day we finally met the gardener and all though he didn't speak much, he sure did laugh. He climbed a coconut tree for us which was amazing to see. With no shoes on he just climbed right on up like the tree had stairs.
They all said how much fun they had with us and that they were truly going to miss us. I think the people in town (Soufriere) were going to miss us too as Catherine told us that we were the "talk of the town".
The construction next door really wasn't a problem. They did wake us up in the morning a few times but I really didn't care because I don't want to waste my time on vacation sleeping anyways. Besides, these are island people and they work sloooooow and take lots of breaks. I think I only heard hammering or saws running for about an hour. I think they would work as soon as they got in and then take a 6 hour break, lol
The steep rocky path to the beach below is something you must try at least once. The snorkeling is good but Anse Chastenet at the bottom of the road has the best snorkeling. The path is not bad going down but coming back up you have to take a break at least once. Our husbands did see a wall of purple jellyfish the second time they went down and of course quickly got out of the water and never returned again, lol
The mosquitoes are not a problem. They love me for some reason and I did get bit (but they didn't itch) but no one else in our group got bit. Guess I'm just too sweet.
The house is fully open for fantastic views and fresh air. It does lock up pretty tight but we never locked it up. We just made sure the front gate was locked and we were happy. We just felt safe and at home there.
We rented a car, which you will need to do unless you want to pay alot for taxi service. The road to the house was crazy. It had so many twists and turns and hills and bumps. Trust everyones reviews when they say the road is bad cause it is. Our group liked it but we are an adventerous type group and we love jeeps and driving fast and bumpy hilly roads.
When going into town (Soufriere) make sure to ask for Dennis. He rides a bicycle and he will show you around. He was a very pleasant person. Also make sure to visit Deb's store. She is located on the corner in front of the church.
Some excursion not to miss are zipling in Dennery, an Atv tour in Micoud and the mud bath at the volcano. They were a blast. Make sure to do a catamaran ride so you can see the house and the Pitons from the water.
All in all it was an amazing vacation. The house, staff and the island was fantastic. I will miss Shermaine, Catherine and Casey. The house is perfect and they make it even more perfect.

  • Liked — I can't pick one thing, everything was wondering
  • Disliked — nothing, the place was fabulous
