If you are looking for gorgeous views, an excellent beach, staff who simply cannot do enough for you, delicious meals and drinks, and comfortable accommodations, then book a vacation at this resort! The theme at the Grande is "No pressure; no problem," and every single employee does their best to assure you have a pressure-free and problem free stay! My husband retired from a very high pressure job 2 days before we arrived at Sandals. He had not slept through the night in almost a year, but all of that changed at the Grande. The atmosphere is so relaxing and stress-free. Our biggest decisions were which tropical drink to try next and where to have our next meal. There is no need to carry money with you, or to worry about what time it is, or even what day it is. The staff prepares for your arrival and your departure, so there is no stress in regard to those events.
The Grande is well-designed for those who enjoy a party atmosphere, and for those who enjoy more quiet and private surroundings. We were the latter, and our Honeymoon Deluxe Oceanfront room afforded us a lovely, peaceful view of the beautiful grounds and the sapphire blue Caribbean. Each morning we brewed a pot of coffee and sat on our private patio listening to the gentle waves and the breeze rustling through the date and coconut palms. It was a wonderful way to begin each day!
We have heard that the beach at the Grande is one of the best on St. Lucia, and I have no difficulty believing that. It is situated on a bay, so the water is quite calm, and the white sand of the shore is virtually rock-free. The view from the beach is interesting - much more than just the horizon. There is a wonderful view of Fort Rodney and Pigeon Island to the right, and to the left is the village of Gros Islet nestled under the gentle mountains.
The resort itself, provides plenty to do, but I recommend visiting Pigeon Island and Fort Rodney, and taking a tour that includes a visit to the Pitons, the botanical garden, and the volcano. It is a good and worthwhile thing to learn about the history and the culture of St. Lucia, and you will find that you are treated just as well as you are treated at the resort. We did the Carnival Catamaran Tour, and it was a day well-spent.
At the resort itself, we went sailing on a Hobie Cat, visited the spa for a couples massage, and received a wonderful surprise. Some dear friends of ours called our travel agent and treated us to a candlelight dinner for two on the beach. It was a romantic, elegant, and delicious experience! (Thank you Bob & Carol, and Jerry & Georgia!)
There are 2 other Sandals resorts on the island that you can visit for free if you stay at the Grande. We did not visit La Toc, but we did take the shuttle to Halcyon to have dinner at The Pier. Halcyon is very quaint and charming, and the the service and food at The Pier are marvelous. We very much enjoyed our visit.
To top off the experience, The night before we left, The Grande hosted a Super Bowl party that was outstanding! We are avid NY Giants fans, so you cannot imagine how thrilled we were to attend the party, complete with huge screens, tailgate foods and beverages, as well as a full bar, and to see our Giants win!!! It was the perfect way to end our vacation!
Thank you, Sandals Grande! We could not have imagined having such a superb time!
