Having just returned from a week at East Winds, it is easy to see why the resort has earned such consistently high ratings. I should start by saying that the clientele the week we stayed were of an older generation with no families or children. I would guess that the average age was about 60 so this is not a place to come if you are looking for a younger crowd. The guests were almost all British .... and it was all very gentile. The entertainment in the evenings was mainly pianists or a jazz duo playing popular songs. The special Friday night entertainment was a little odd as this sounded more like an "ooompah" band than something from the caribbean!
Mainly the food was of a good quality and varied. Breakfast was more limited but there were eggs and pancakes cooked to order. Afternoon tea wasn't a particularly grand affair (but people aren't generally hungry) and was probably more of a novelty than anything as the local birds will eat cake out of your hand. Plenty of choice with drinks of all kinds ..... pre dinner champagne was also a nice touch and also gave an opportunity to meet fellow guests. We met some lovely people and only ate by ourselves on a couple of occasions.
I highly recommend taking water shoes with you as the sea shelves quickly onto rocks / coral. I also found it easier to swim in them than flippers when snorkelling - there was some great viewing although it took me a few attempts to find the best spots.
As Johnny or Kim to take you out on the hobbiecats - Kim for a more sedate sail or Johnny for a more adrenaline fuelled experience!
Even though this was the dry season, there are still mosquitoes about. They did "fog" the whole grounds whilst we were staying to keep them at bay but take plenty of high strength repellant. Most guests did report some bites - one had a particularly nasty attack on her face - I escaped with about 6 which didn't trouble me too much after applying antihistamine.
The staff are very friendly and eager for the guests to have a good time. All in all, a great holiday.
