“Disappointing hotel, beautiful island.”

My husband and I honeymooned at Sandals La Toc in October, 2011. Let me start off by saying the island of St. Lucia is absolutely gorgeous and the people are just as amazing. Make sure you take time to explore this beautiful island! We went zip-lining in the rainforest, traveled to the volcano to bath in the sulfur mud springs and rinse off in a near by waterfall, had a blast with "Joe Knows" adventures, and got to see the rest of the island via the helicopter airport transfer! ****make your excursion reservations outside of Sandals, you will save a lot of money! Also, wait for the daily specials when booking the spa (We booked a couple's massage for $360...later that week, the couple's massage special was $180. Ouch)

With that being said, lets talk about the resort. First of all, this is no where near a 5 star resort. Now, I will admit that my husband and I have high expectations, however, we work hard to play hard. We save up our money to spend on vacations where we can be pampered and just enjoy ourselves. When we spend the amount of money we did for this "five star" resort; we expect exceptional service, great food, and an overall experience that we can't wait to come back to.

The La Toc grounds, themselves, are very beautiful, the lobby and welcoming service were very friendly. Our room was average. We had an ocean view, and it was just that- a slight view of the ocean. Now, I can't complain because any ocean view is better than my view at home or work. The room and bed were sufficient with an island feel. Our only complaint with the room was the bathroom- there is no air conditioning in there and it got rather hot and humid.

The worst part of our trip, and the reason for writing this review, was the service and food. Again, enter the "five star" expectations.......every morning we had to literally tackle a server for coffee, ketchup and cream. What five star facility has 3 bottles of ketchup for 30 tables? Not an exaggeration. The alcoholic beverages were watery and the bar service lackluster, even with hefty tipping. There were many just okay restaurants, but most you had to make reservations days in advance. Oh, and if you're excited about some great fresh seafood on your island vacation, forget about it. I've had better seafood at Red Lobster. We regret not venturing off the resort to a local restaurant for seafood- but why should we have to?? It should be all-inclusive, right?

About half way through our honeymoon, we visited the Halcyon. This resort was definitely much more reserved than our mostly young adult resort (not a bad thing), but let me say the service and quality of food and alcohol were leaps and bounds beyond La Toc. We wish we had chosen to stay there instead.

We won't be revisiting Sandals La Toc, or any Sandals resort for that matter. We will be spending our hard earned money in a place with exceptional service and experiences. If you just want a beautiful place to have fun in and get out of the daily grind, you will find Sandals more than sufficient. If you're looking for a luxury resort with great service, food and alcohol- look elsewhere.

“GREAT location for our WeddingMoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We had 63 people fly in and join us for our wedding and at least a few days holiday. The resort was amazing, the food was great and the staff was phenominal. We felt it was the best of the 3 on the island, bc it felt the most spread out and, although the beach was smaller, there were less vendors.
Advice (write this down):
- More vegetarian options are in the works but not on the menu yet (but the salads are great). Just a heads up.
- Go to the Armando's pool to watch the sunset whenever you can. Hot tub and bar there, and it's beautiful.
- Be nice and chat to the beach vendors, tell them you don't want anything until maybe the end of the week. Then you can say hi everyday but not find them annoying. Then at the end of the week, if you decide you want a painting, you'll also get a WAY better deal.
- Guy named "Garfield Victor" at the end of the beach sells great wood pieces to hang on your wall if you're there for a special occasion. His wife makes all the jewelry and will customize anything you see/like.
- One night, take a bottle of wine to the outlook "deck" across from Armando's and just sit there while the sun goes down. Bring friends that you meet with you, it's just a cool spot.
- If you plan on diving, you will have to do an "Intro Dive" where they assess your skills. You cannot talk you're way out of it unless you are a Dive Master or a Dive Instructor, and you'll have to provide your #. Just enjoy the boat ride and the intro dive one day, and a more advanced dive the next (wreck was cool).
- When you find out your shuttle back to the airport is WAY earlier that your flight, don't fight it bc they can't change it. Pack up some pastries from breakfast (I recommend filling croissants w ham 'n cheese) and when you get to the airport head to the Sandals lounge BEFORE going through the departure area. You can wait there comfortably until the afternoon flights start to arrive.

Room Tip: The "basic" rooms are fine, just be sure to make the trip up the hill to check it out, it...

“Nice honeymoon.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife and I had a great honeymoon at this resort. It is a fairly small resort compared to some we have went to, but that was very nice at times. The rooms were nice, nothing spectacular or modern, but they were fine. The people there were so friendly and welcoming and we really got to know a few of the bartenders and servers and they were so much fun to hang out with and get to know...great people make this a great vacation.

The restaurants are all pretty good...we really enjoyed La Toc (French). I had the lamb and it was amazing. The stay at one and play at three is a cool option too. The Pier at the Halcyon was probably the best meal we had on the trip and is worth the 15 minute ride to get there. The Grand has the best beach and an awesome hike next to it that was free. Make sure you make reservations as soon as you arrive and get that out of the way. Otherwise, you may not get to eat at some of the restaurants.

The beach at The Regency is not very big and is man made...don't go here if you want a large beach to lounge on. The pools are fun and we spent most of our time there. The large party pool at the main building always has something happening and the playmakers keep you entertained at all times. The pool volleyball was always fun too. The pool at the top of the hill (next to the Italian restaurant) was quieter, but still very nice and probably made the best drinks. Be sure to order a dirty banana, they are great.

The golf course was pretty nice, played one round and had fun. The excursions are over priced at Sandals and I recommend taking a "Joe Knows" tour. It is a local company, but they go to six different places on one tour and it is half the price of the excursions through Sandals and they only take you to one place and back to the resort. The trip is awesome and you get rum punch and beer the whole trip...you get to see the Pitons, an active volcano, a rum factory (not all that great, but you get samples), local markets and villages, etc.

The nightlife isn't all that great, but we had a good time at the piano bar a couple nights when we started our own games and fun with a large group of people we got to know. We turned it into our own party. The swim up bar at the party pool is a great time during the day.

I think that Sandals are a little overpriced compared to other resorts we have went to, based on the company name. They do a good job though and we had a great trip. I do recommend this place if you don't require a large beach and you like a smaller resort. St. Lucia is the prettiest of the islands I have visited also. It is much more lush and tropical that many locations (small island too). It is in a rain forest, so expect some pop up showers from time to time, but it was no big deal when we were there.

Room Tip: Upgrade a couple steps, we had friends not very impressed with their basic lower level room they had...

“Sandals St Lucia is wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We have recently returned from 2 weeks at the Sandals Regency in St Lucia and would highly recommend it. This was our 10th visit to that property and we were not bored or disappointed in the least, in fact this resort grows on us.
This is a big beautiful property and depending which building your accomodations are in, it can involve some walking, including climbing a rather steep hill. This is part of the experience and the exercize is helpful in working off the calories. The restaurants are superb with many choices because of the option of visiting two other Sandals and their restaurants.
The staff are great and many know us by name and greeted us as the friends we are.
Scuba diving is a big part of why we go to this Sandals. The diving (which is included in the Sandals price) in St Lucia is simply excellent and the instructors went out of their way to give us fascinating and beautiful dives. They are a great bunch and lots of fun to be with. The dive centre is a shuttle bus ride through Castries and the traffic can be very slow, and the boat ride can be 45 minutes so this is a longish excursion. But this is all part of the fun and well worth the time.
We intend to return again next year as we love the whole experience.

Room Tip: The sunset from the Bluffs is well worth it.

“All inclusive, friendly clean with excellent facilities/resturants.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This was our second visit to La Toc having been here 2 years ago for 3 weeks and this time for 2 weeks. We arrived after 3 weeks in Barbados and travel the world in quality hotels.
La Toc didnt disappoint. From the General Manager Mr Michael James all the way down to the cleaners, everybody was courteous, friendly with excellent service. Our Butlers Gene and Pero were first class could not do enough although we didnt ask of them too much. The waiters, bar staff all excellent. Likewise the resturants all different but good with La Toc (French) being our favorite. Yes you do need to book at the beginning of your stay but thats no problem
To be able to visit 3 resorts within 40 mins with The Grande having a superb beach, all same facilities inclusive as La Toc and transport provided free is an excellent benefit and variety.

Room Tip: We love peacefull location with good views and The bluff is ideal for that and very exclusive.
