We just returned from a week at Le Sereno for our honeymoon. St Barts is a perfect honeymoon spot. Enough lounging, resting mixed with great restaurants and site seeing on beaches. We thought Le Sereno was just perfect, in every way. It is the absolutely perfect honeymoon hotel. Romantic, quiet and very beautiful. If you want night life or to meet other people and have party on the beach, this is simply not the place for you. If you want to unwind, enjoy the beauty of your surrounding and the person you are with, it is perfect. The friendly and extremely observant, helpful staff was what made it a special place. Ice gets low in your beach cocktail...before you know it, he is there replenishing and leaving a silver bucket of ice for use. Never once did we have to flag anyone down. They just seemed to know when you need something. And so so gracious and friendly...at the front desk, valet, restaurant, beach. Everyone was quite lovely and that really made Le Sereno a special place for us. The rooms are gorgeous. We had one of the La Plage suites over the lagoon with a small terrace. You can either be on the lagoon side or the beach side but we found the lagoon ones offered much more privacy and a gorgeous view. The beach view La Plage rooms were at the other side of the pool and did not offer the same levels of privacy. If you are to get a La Plage room though, I would suggest requesting a higher room number. We were in room 24 and I would say 28 up. Reason being is that they are little more open on their terrace. Ours had a lot of vegation so mosquitos were an issue on the deck and it could smell if the air was still...just that lagoon smell. The higher number rooms were a little higher with less vegatation. I would request one of those.
The whole property (including the rooms) does a have a minimalistic decor and low key vibe to it that may not be for everyone. Its what we really loved but may be too quiet for some. And the decor considered plain by some...though we thought very pretty. We went to Eden Rock and Isle de France which are both similar level hotels. They are just very different from Le Sereno so if you are trying to decide between the three, it just depends on what you would like. Eden Rock is on a beautiful stretch of beach but where the hotel beds are is very small and crowded. A lot more action around the Eden Rock, but we thought it all felt very cramped. We had lunch twice at the Isle de France. It is on a beautiful beach. A very pretty hotel. I had read though that a lot of guests come back at the same time every year and know each other. Saw a lot of that so don't know if that would get old or not. It's a hotel that has a more high end vibe to it...lots of designer labels, etc. than Le Sereno. Fun to watch but a little much for me. We were always very happy to get back to our haven, Le Sereno. So just a matter of taste. Very pretty hotel though.
As for the beach at Le Sereno, much is written about. Yes, it is not the prettiest beach on the island. But it is a very pretty lagoon and watching the waves crash out on the reef is quite beautiful. Also, because it has no waves, much easier to float on rafts, paddle board, kayak etc. But you do have to go out about 50 yards to get white sand under your feet...that was no issue. We'd just swim or paddle out there and then just float around in the very calm beautiful water.
Be sure if you stay at Le Sereno to upgrade your car to a convertible. Well worth the extra cost. We had great fun in our convertible mini cooper. And you really do get out and about a lot more than on a typical island, typical resort. We loved St Barts and would love to go back. And can't imagine not staying at Le Sereno...I could be tempted to try Isle De France or Le Toiny but can't help but think I'd regret it.
Room Tip: If you do a La Plage level room, you can either be on the lagoon side or the beach side but we found...
