We stayed at the Tropical Nov 2-9th 2009. We Loved this little hotel. It was our first time in St Barth's, so we don't have alot of experience, but we certainly had a great time our first time over. The hotel is very clean and the grounds maintained perfect. The maid service (thank you to Ilda {sp?} our maid who left us a fresh flower daily) is great. The continental breakfast (free) with fresh rolls and croisants, jam and strong coffee - a perfect start to each day. All the receptionists were very helpful, but a big thank you to Jenny - we loved her and she made our stay so very comfortable. The location was perfect for us. St Jean is a busy place, and offered everything we needed. A grocery story, gas station, a gorgeous beach. The beach is a short walk down the steep driveway (seems longer that 40 yards advertised), but is literally across the street. Eden Rock Hotel (only a nice drink one night for our budget) is just down the road. The bar in the Tropical is very nice too. The receptionist's double as bartenders - so try not to order a fancy cocktail concoction - you just might end up with a double shot of something or other that was not quite what you expected. We loved it! We made new friends in the bar pre-dinner excursions. All very friendly, very nice. We had a garden room and also were not disappointed. The garden was lush and green and we had a turtle outside our door one day snacking away at a beautiful red flower. The king size beds are 2 large twins combined tightly together, but it was comfy enough for us. If I had to say one disappointment it was the shower. We looked forward to nice long showers, but the shower head should be replaced and we did run out of hot water very quickly - 4-5 minutes in. Probably set that way specifically to save water. The pool was small, overlooking the ocean, but we were there for the beaches/ocean, not the pool. I would have no problem staying at this hotel again, and we will definitely choose St Jean again for our location to stay in.
