“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2007

My wife and I had a lovely experience at La Banane. The room was tasteful, the palm tree filled grounds secluded and sophisticated. I felt that I was in the South of France. The staff was attentive and warm. Breakfasts are delightful by the pool. As to service, when my Mac computer failed I was escorted by a staff member, Laurent, to a computer store to have it repaired. The off season package, 3 days for 900 euros, including breakfast, a car and a dinner at Massai is the best bargain on the island.

“peaceful tasteful place”

Firstly I would like to point out that I was very decieved about the negative comments being made in this site about the hotel! Fortunely we decided to keep our booking and spend a week there. Of course the appreciation of an hotel is mostly a question of individual taste, personality etc..For the price, this hotel offers an excellent price/quality balance. The service is discreet but efficient. The hotel is not located directly on the beach and doesn't have a sea view but the closed small garden is beautiful and the sea is just a few metres away. As mosquitoes are concerned, it is a tropical island so they are unavoidable!
The room was big, beautifully decorated and most important we thought it was a simple but yet a very chic place to stay.

“What a shame”

Having seen la Banane on the internet we were very excited about staying there. We had come from Nevis where the service had been fantastic and what a contrast we were presented with. The accomodation is well presented and done to a standard that you would expect for the money, but it is set some distance from the beach and the pool appears to be more a breeding ground for mosquitoes than relaxation. To add to that the restaurant next door releases a stink that wafts over the grounds and you are in essence staying in a shopping centre due to supermarket being in such close proximity.

You can set a lot of store by how the staff the react to slight problems and it is here that La Banane is truely awful. One of the other guests was harassing both us and 2 other single women staying at the hotel. The owner/manager was called by his trainee to come to the hotel to sort out the guest. He refused to come down from his villa so i had to go out a escort her from the office to stay with us. The mad guy fell out of a palm tree landing on our neighbours veranda scaring everyone. i had to play security guard all night looking after the other guests.

Eventually he arrived and was rude to everyone to the point that the trainee quit on the spot. We moved hotels the next morning and they did not help with our bags or apologise for any inconvenience.

I would never stay in La Banane if it was the last hotel on St Barts. Please go to st Barts it is wonderful but stay somewhere other than la Banane.

  • Liked — the rooms were nicely desingned
  • Disliked — the staff and especially the manager

““Very chic retreat boutique hotel””

I like the room decorate in a Caribbean Colonial style, with a large bathroom.
I like the ambiance of the place: serenity, calm, voluptuous.
I like the staff, helpful and friendly

I did not like the location of the hotel no view, no beach, just a shopping center.
I did not like the fact that that they charge us the all 10 days months before we get there

“It Stinks "Literally" Sometimes, BUT”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2006

Well, we have been to St B 5 times and usually stay at a villa, but we had a few nights without the kids and it wasn't enough time for a villa. Here is the issue, sometimes at night the restaurant next door emits (and that is a kind phrase) odors from their bathrooms, or something (whatever, you get the point). We had the room near the restaurant and had to move. If we could have pulled the rip cord that first night, we would. Stress (which is not what St Bs is about). Funny thing about this hotel is that the mornings are wonderful. It has the feel of a villa at breakfast, with limited guests and a nice aesthetic. BUT, bottom line, not again. In spite of this place, St B worked it magic - much to do with great dinners and rum vanille -- just hope that it is not one of the "stinky" nights and the rum vanille has kicked in.
