“Semi-rustic, very Carribean!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

Stayed at El Momo for a week, very much enjoyed it. It's an ideal spot for the adventurous/semi-adventurous traveller. This place is a little off the beaten path, and a bit rustic, so if you're used to the lap of luxury this place isn't for you. However, it's very charming and surrounded by beautiful tropical forest. Breakfasts are great, a few more bucks but worth it, and the 'honor bar' is so convenient after a long day. This place makes their own rum, some of the best on the island. Very nice little pool to sit and relax at. There is a pretty long walk up to the place (as the website indicates), so be prepared for that. However, many would agree it's worth it as most of the cottages and the restaurant/bar have spectacular views! This place is certainly worth a try if you don't mind the touch of rustic.

“Very nice place, amazing views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We spent a whole week on Saba to get away from the cold winter weather while avoiding some of the more busy and overrun places in the carribean. Saba is the perfect place to relax, go on amazing hikes (that get your blood pumping) and maybe throw in a dive or a visit to the (one) spa on the island.
The El Momo Cottages are located a short, steep walk from the center of Windwardside, and reward the visitor with breathtaking views over th ocean, even from your shower/bathromm outhouse. The accomodations are basic, clean, practical, and Andries takes very good care of the 7 or 8 cottages on the property. We got up late, had the signature ElMomo breakfast including the self made yogurt (thanks Bettina) and a fantastic view over the ocean and towards the adjacent town St. John. One thing that we needed to get used to was the local rooster that typically got into a shouting match with his buddies at around 4:30 am each night ... but I'm sure you can hear them from any other hotel/cottage in Windwardside ... it is such a small place. Be advised: If you expect "Marriott"-like accomodations, you will be disappointed ... but then, who would want to have the same cookie-cutter business trip experience on a carribean vacation??

Again, ... great trip, great stay, and many thanks to Andries and Bettina who made our stay a memorable one.

Room Tip: Sunshine Cottage - great view Cottage in the Sky - slighly pricier but with kitchenette and the mos...

“Incredible views, uncomfortable room”

I had an amazing trip to Saba. This place is seriously gorgeous, but decidedly low-key. In part, I enjoyed my experience at El Momo. The views were spectacular, the owner was very nice and helpful, the vibe of the place was really friendly and cool. Maybe I am just getting old, but I guess I wanted a bit more comfort. I knew that El Momo was going to have basic accommodations, and they were - but it was a wee bit more rustic that I was comfortable with. I felt a bit like I was camping. The weather was quite warm and humid and there was no fan in the room - making it unbearable during daylight hours. Evenings were very pleasant, even chilly. The cabins are not sealed and there were many, many critters in the room with me - day and night. Lots of worms crawling up the walls and on every other surface - luckily not on me. There are mosquito nets that keep the bugs off of you while you sleep, but all night I could hear them crawling, dropping, scurrying, fluttering and buzzing. If you are ok with this - this place is for you! Otherwise, it can lead to sleepless nights. That said, the place was clean and again- unforgettable views. There is a lovely honor bar and breakfast was really quite pleasant. I honestly liked the place, but the bugs were too much for me and there are other places with views. Additionally, it is such a steep walk uphill from Windwardside and then approx. 80 more steps up to the hotel office and then more up to your cottage that I found myself not wanting to return to change before dinner because it was a serious trek. (I am in my mid 40's and in ok shape). If you are not in good shape, do not stay here. The town itself is pleasant and it was fun to walk around. There is good diving and hiking and some nice places to eat, but that's it. Go to enjoy the views and take it easy. It is a fantastic place to vist, just chill and enjoy the friendly people and unbeatable scenery. (Scary but fun flight) If I were to return I would check out some other places to stay, but El Momo was a good budget option.

“A wonderful place with an unbeatable view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

The cottages are situated on the hill in the "jungle" 500m away from the centre of Windwardside.
We stayed in the sunshine cottage and from our terrace we had a wonderful view to the ocean. If the guests wish, Andries will cook his famous "Mahi-Mahi in coconut-sauce". We had a wonderful time with hiking all over the island and diving with Scouts-Place. Don't miss the sabaoke on friday night.

Room Tip: For divers: Store your equipement in the diveshop when you pass to the hotel.

“Views that cannot be described with words!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

We stayed with El Momo's just for one night but what an unforgettable night it was. The stairs up to the reception seemed a little daunting at first but then you realize you are living on a mountainous volcano and there is no getting away from hills and stairs. We were given the "Cottatge in the sky" and they got the name spot on too. Being at the top of the resort rewards you with the most amazing views over Saba, I would return if just to spend a few days in awe sitting outside my cottage being inspired.
