“Shocking Rustic Alluring”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2010

What a trip this was. Arriving the first day we were ready to leave. Why you ask; It felt like one of those scary Vampire movies (once you arrived there was no escaping). Don't be fool we had a wonderful time. It was a step back in time and we loved it, from the warmth of our hosts Michel and Lyliane to the friendliness of the people of Saba. Walking the hills was a challenge which we looked forward to each day. Hiking the trails, admiring the houses along the mountain side and the graves not so far away was most intriguing. Indiana Jones missed out! I'm telling you it was a treat. Hope to be back for more unpoiled fun. Thanks again to Michel and Lyliane stay strong and healthy, your extended travel family.

“very quiet ,nice, servicefull and pleasant stay in the super Gate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2010

I was for my first visit on Saba in the Gatehouse. The friendly owners Lyliane and Michel were standing in the door when I arrived. They had sent a taxi to the airport.I started with a nice french wine and visit my cornerbedroom with a good few at the top of mount Scenery.Clean and with everything you need.No television, you have the view outside.
The delicious meals with full attention of mastercook Michel and the very attentive service of Lyliane were remarkable.Prefered her home made mangoconfiture!
Hell's Gate is a nice place without any stress,No problems with a taxi to get to Windwardside or to the Bottom with Billy's.
I won't forget my last dinner in the Gatehouse.Splendid cold fishdish as a starter and a delicious fishdish with a fan of sweet potato,a creation of several vegatables and a onforgettable sauce.Chablis 1 cru and Meursault accompagnied this meal.
Finished with a passion ice homemade same day and relaxing with an Oremus Tokay Aszu 6 puttyonnos. What do you want to wish more ? Nothing !
You all have to go and get this same experience in the Gatehouse. No Juliana,Cottage Inn or somewere else on Saba can compair with this French-American-Sabian couple.

I will return with my Helena, for sure.

“A superb experience with the best hosts arround”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

We spent our holidays on the neighbour-island sint-maarten but went to saba with winair for a day, mainly for the incredible flight and the intersting landing on the worlds shortest commercial airstrip. Saba really is a jewel, unknown by most people and that is what makes the island so special: it´s no place for tourism in the "carribean sense" as one can see it on sint-maarten, where everything is full of casinos, big hotels and restaurants. So after having landad we decided not to take a taxi but rather walk up "the road". When arriving at zion´s hill we asked local people where to get a coffee and some breakfast. they showed us the way to the gate house, where we arrived a bit later surprising Michel and Lilianne a little bit as they were not expecting guests. we sat down on the terrace from which one has got a splendid outview and is overlooking the sea. We were served oven-fresh baguette and self-made jam of a delicious flavour for breakfast. After this great breakfast we decided to walk on to Winwardside while we were walking it started to rain so we had to hide in a shed beside the street. while we waited a car passed. it stopped and who was it? Michel and Lilianne, who offered to take us to winwardside. well, after walking back to the gate house we ate and enjoyed the panorama once again. I must say that it was a great experience to stay at the gate house not only because of the good food, the spectacular outlook and the beauty of the nature, Michel and Lilianne really make the stay so special and make you feel at home at once.
A beautiful experience I will remember for long.
Thank you, Michel and Lilianne, i hope to be back one day!

“Relaxing Honeymoon”

To those of you who are lucky enough to have found Saba in the first place, this review is for you! As newly weds, we were looking for a relaxing way to spend a week. Michel and Lilianne were so welcoming. They made the whole stay so easy and carefree. There rooms are simple but quite and cool. You won't see any bugs when you're on Saba. Every morning the Job's greet you with a lovely breakfast. The Gate house has some amazing views of the ocean. The Gate house is close to the airport, but you'd never know it. You can see the Winair plan taking off but you won't have a problem with airport noise.
The Gate house is just a 10 minute taxi ride to windward side. After you've spent some time in windward side, you'll be happy you have a quiet, tranquile place to retire to. The food at Gate house is the best on the island. Michel is very talented. If you get a chance to do a wine tasting it's well worth it. Michel also offers a cooking class which we also enjoyed. You'll soon find that The Gate house is the best place to stay if you're honeymooning or need a relaxing vacation away from the busy world. We can't wait to go back! “Truly Paradise”

The island of Saba is known as the "Unspoiled Queen" and definitely lives up to its name. The very best place to stay on the island is The Gate House. This tranquil bed and breakfast owned and operated by French born Michel and Lyliane Job, has the best restaurant on the island. As Lyliane so aptly put it, "We don't have the most expensive food, but it is the best." We would have to agree. We ended up eating the majority of our meals there. We so enjoyed the food that we are learning to cook French Cuisine at home.

Michel and Lyliane immediately make you feel welcome and do everything they can to make your stay memorable such as making reservations for anything, anytime. They will even prepare a sack lunch for you to take hiking on the magnificent trails through the rain forest. They also provide hiking staffs and umbrellas if needed.

Our room was located at the corner of a roomy deck overlooking the Caribbean. From there you can view Sint Maarten, St. Bart's, Stacia, St. Kitts, and Nevis. The Trade Winds kept things at the perfect temperature and with absolutely no mosquitoes, this is truly an island paradise.

We love to dive and diving is accessible by one of the many taxis on the island (the diving is fantastic). Everything is very close since the island has only 7 miles of road and is only 5 sq. miles in area.

We found the accomodations to be reasonable, the food was delicious, the room was very clean and comfortable, and the hosts were wonderful.

We are returning and are bringing family with us.
