“Just Lovely!”

My husband and I just returned from a one week stay at Turtle Bay Aprtments, Montserrat.
Let em begin by saying that the owner, Ms. Carolyne Coleby, was quick to respond to my initial inquirieslast May and emailed me regularly with weather and volcano updates. She contacted drivers, helped set up a dive operator, rental car arrangments, etc.
The location in Woodlands is about a 15 min. walk to Woodlands Bay Beach and a good 2 miles to salem. You will need a car if you want groceries or to go to some restaurants. Buses are good and cheap, costing around 3 EC one way.
The pool side apartment is the best. Views of the sea are nice. There is a nice patio and the 10m long pool is right outside the bedroom. There is a nice bathroom, sitting area, and a kitchen with a gas stove and small fridge.
Upon arrival, the taxi driver, Ethylynne, stopped at Ram's supermarket so we could get groceries. Fruit and vegetables are nearly non-existant here. You have to wait fro the boat to come in from Dominica Tues. afternoon and go to Salem or the market in Little Bay to get produce.
The island is safe. We had no trouble. The people are wonderful.
OPn the island, do:
- Go to Belham Valley to see the destruction from the volcano and go to Garibaldi Hill. Fumba (Thomas Lee) is an excellent driver and guide. and available for hire.
_ Take a boat tour to Plymouth with Troy and Melody at the Green Monkey Dive Shop in Little Bay. The y have the best snorkel and diving and are excellent people!
- Go to People's Place near St. Peter's for the best pizza on the island. John is a great guy!!
Go to the soft serve ice cream stand in the plaza at Brades and talk to John Watts. Burger, fries, ice cream for less than 20 EC
- Go to the National Trusr for souvenirs
- Take the arduous and incredible hike to Rendezvous Bay.
- Eat at Tina's
- Rent a jeep and see the island
- Bring a flashlight and ear plugs. The nights are so dark and the roosters loud
The MVO is not worth the trip.
Overall, the island and Turtle Bay are awesome. If you like quiet, laid back, simple things in life and travel, this is for you!

“Great place to stay for the money”

Turtle Bay Apartments is a wonderful place to stay. They quite possibly offer the most value for the money spent of any apartments, hotels or guest house I have stayed at on any Caribbean island. The apartments are within short walking distance of a very lovely beach and within a bit of a longer walking distance to yet another fantastic black sand beach. They are also within walking distance of a few eating establishments. Keep in mind none of the walking is for flatlanders. Quite mountainous and quite refreshing hikes await you on a very lovely island with some of the friendliest people you are likely to ever meet.

A relaxing place to stay set in beautiful rainforests with ocean and mountain views. Lovely tropical gardens and great pool! Thoroughly recommended.
