Montserrat is lovely, quiet, friendly, interesting and romantic. Our trip was part of an anniversary celebration. We agonized over where we would stay, because we are usually resort hotel people, and there are none in Montserrat. We selected Bunkum Beach Guest House because of the reviews and because it is near the governor's residence (strange reason). We found a gem! From the moment Sun met us at the airport with our rental car and a couple of days' provisions for the fridge, we knew she was something special. The guest house is charming, clean and comfortable with spectacular views and the music of tree frogs to lull you to sleep at night. The first day or two we shared the villa with an interesting man from California, and the rest of the week we had the place to ourselves. Sun was the perfect host, very helpful but unobtrusive, coming in to check on us daily and making sure everything was right. Our rental car was Sun's personal vehicle (very uncomplicated rental procedure), and we used it to explore pretty much every square mile of the island. We are so glad we visited Montserrat and hope to return. If we do, Bunkum Beach Guest House is the only place we will stay!
