“Very nice but maybe not for everyone!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2010

Basically everything in the previous reviews is true. The rooms were clean and serviceable, though the shower was quite small. Sleeping area was reached via going outside to the porch and going in through another entrance. There was a 1/2 bath in the sleeping area so it wasn't that inconvenient. The kitchenette consisted only of a stove (hot plate), no ovenor microwave. We ate well from walking to the markets downtown and purchasing the ubiquitous cheese, baguettes as well as fresh fruits and veggies. 1 day a fisherman had caught a black marlin and was selling it downtown. Probably one of our best meals!

The service was excellent from the front desk to the car rental agency ()located in hotel office). Everyone on the island was actually quite friendly and patient with our limited French! As for the stereotype rude French, we didn't experience that here! The restaurant was pretty good, we only really ate out one night, preferring mostly to eat in.

The pool was excellent, quiet and had nice views of the rock and sea. Perfect zen moments of listening to wind and surf while enjoying the excellent view and a good book. Not much beach to speak of but what there is makes a nice walk (with shoes off!!) to the downtown area.

Overall a beautiful island with much to see and explore!

“France with a Caribbean accent!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2009

Go here for a unique, unpretentious hotel with charm. The rooms all have balconies and views of the ocean as well as kitchenettes. While not plush and luxurious, the rooms are decent. Getting to our room made us laugh. From reception we went down a 5-step staircase and made a right turn. A little further along the hall we went down another 12-step staircase which curved left and then made another right turn. Next, down the hall past a spiral staircase, left turn and then another 8-step stairway down. After a final right turn we climbed up a two-level spiral staircase to room 73...with luggage. The bathroom was quite basic, but serviceable. Our bed was in a sleeping loft which we got to by climbing a staircase with no banister. This was fine for us, but might pose a problem for travelers not in the best of shape. The staff was unobtrusive and kept our room very clean.

The open-air restaurant, Bord-o ( a play on Bordeaux), was adjacent to the pool and very pleasant. There was also music, a magic show or a jewelry show, depending upon the night. The food was very good...a nice mixture of French and Creole. Actually, the food everywhere on the island was delicious, especially the Assiette Creole--- which always consisted of crab, accras (salt cod fritters) and boudins (blood sausage). SOOOO GOOD! We discovered the potent "Ti Punch", made with the local cane sugar syrup, fresh limes, and rum agricole, which is a very young white rum.

It's best if you speak even a fledgling amount of French because we were the only couple speaking English. Most guests were from France, some were families with children, but not too many. Some of the staff members did speak a little English and we know a little French, so we got by. This is understandable because Martinique is a department within the French government and you should expect nothing else. I had fun taking a water aerobics class in French. The Euro is used so be aware that the dollar doesn't buy as much as in some other Caribbean islands.

We liked the location a lot because it was out of the capital, Fort-De-France, on the southeastern coast. We rented a car...the driving was easy as the roads are good. However, parking at the Diamant Beach Club is another story. The parking was always tight...if you could find a space. Every day was a challenge to maneuver the car in and out. However, we were able to tour all over Martinique, which has more to see than many Caribbean islands. We could also walk to the small town of Le Diamant which had a smattering of interesting shops and good restaurants.

There is a minuscule black sand beach at the hotel, but for surf and sand you need to go further east to the Grande Anse des Salines, a very long white sand beach. However, we considered this vacation to be more of a culinary, cultural, and sightseeing experience than a beach vacation. There was no Wi-Fi when we went and only a few internet cafes, but that may have changed.

“A good hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2009

Hotel Diamant Beach is a good, if not quite perfect, hotel in beautiful location. They two-room appartments are quite large and ideal for families. Each has a decent-sized balcony looking towards the pool and sea, with kitchenette. There were a few minor niggles. Our bathroom was rather basic, with peeling walls in need of re-decoration. The airconditioning was quite noisy and could only be switched on while you were in the room. If you had noisy neighbours (which generally we did not), you would certainly hear them, particularly chairs scraping on the stone floors. Overall, however, the hotel remained very peaceful during our stay.

The hotel's big plus is its beautiful location, above the beach and with a fine view across the bay to the famous Roche du Diamond. The hotel's large swimming pool is superbly designed so that you can enjoy this view while bathing. The pool was generally quiet: excellent for swimming and with plenty of loungers for relaxing.

The hotel has a decent restaurant beside the pool. We opted for demi-pension, which is convenient but rather expensive. The breakfast is typically French: delicious fresh baguette but not much else of substance. The evening meals, however, are of a good standard. A couple of evenings per week there is entertainment (a singer or creole dancing).

There is quite a lot to see on Martinique and the roads are slow, so we would recommend staying two weeks, rather than the single week that we had. One tip: visit the Saint Pierre and the north of the island at the weekend, in order to avoid the weekday traffic jams around Fort de France.

“Nice but good”

I stay for 10 days vacation in August. Nice location, five meter from my Studio Bungalow to the beach. The bungalow was fully equipped (kitchen,..) and spaciuos and clean. Only the breakfast in the morning was quite poor (just fresh fruits and bread, jam and butter) and too expensive (8 euro each person per day).
Very calm atmposhera, nice restaurant with reasonable price. Most of people are French and English is not so popular. Martinica is nice island, perfect for me but very calm for young people.

“Nice but not perfect”

Martinique in itself is quite an interesting place. It really is a piece of France stuck in the middle of the Caribbean, I mean everything is like France, even the attitudes. My only warning is you better speak decent French if you are going. Hotel Diamant was well rated by all of the reviews we read and I must conclude none of those people had ever been any where else. The shower was horrificly small and barely functioned, the beds and pillows were uncomfortable, they have 3 TV channels all in French, and the staff was very unhelpful. The rooms did have a great kitchenette and balcony, and were clean. The hotel is pretty and has a terrific view of Roche du Diamant. The pool was great but crowded since there is no beach in walking distance, contrary to the reviews we read. Diamant itself is also highly rated but again, I don't know why. The beach there isn't very good, but the view is great.
The restaurants are so so and there isn't much to do. We thought St.
Anne was much nicer, great beaches, and better food. If you want the best beach go to Anse de Saline near St. Anne, that is as good as it gets. I'm just happy we ended our trip in St. Lucia, it blows Martinique out of the water.
