My wife and I honeymooned here in February 2003, and have booked reservations for 2005.

Yeah, it doesn't have the most beautiful beach, rooms and amenities, but it also doesn't have the tourists that base their happiness level on these types of things alone... which pretty much knocks out 75% of American tourists.

The waterfront bungalows (c. 1940) afford beautiful views, sounds and textures from which to base your expeditions into the Martinique interior.... and expeditions they are! The island is very French third world and makes for interesting transport, language and culinary logistics for the curious American. In 2003, we zoomed around in a little manual Peugeot we rented from a guy in Diamant. I won't give the details of where we zoomed to... but there are plenty of great spots.

My wife and I will be staying at Diamant les Bains for the 9th time this winter. The description given by the last reviewer from Chicago was perfect. If you want clean but modest air-conditioned lodging in a beautiful but unpretentious setting, you will love this place. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rent a car, bring your French phrase book, and enjoy a little bit of France in the Caribbean. (If you want more luxury and want to see lots of fellow Americans, you'd be happier in St. Barts.)

Based on the Trip Advisor review from March 2002, my fiancée and I booked a weeklong honeymoon stay at Diamant Les Bains. It was perfect. Every night we fell asleep to the rolling waves only 20 meters from our bungalow door. The views are unforgettable! Many of our days were spent entirely at the hotel enjoying the soft sand beaches, lounging in the immaculate pool, lunching on our bungalow patio, and dining at the hotel restaurant (you must try the crab au gratin). The staff was very friendly and exceedingly accommodating to our requests and questions. Diamant Les Bains is straight out of a 1940's movie and while its decor is outdated, it is full of charm. If you require five-star furnishings, this is not the place for you; stay in an all-inclusive or perhaps reconsider your decision to visit Martinique, as the island is best suited for the well traveled. If you're looking for a quiet & relaxing escape from it all for a fair price, book here. I know we'll be back!

We visited this place entirely because of recommendations on this site. We know the caribbean well and this hotel is not one we would recommend. It is old and very tatty, the bedrooms in the bungalows are very basic with thin matresses and very scruffy furnishings. Food can easily be bettered in the area as can the location. Great views but the black sand beach is un-attractive and the locale is fairly low grade and can easily be bettered in this island. redeeming features - the views and the helpful management - although it was a bit disconcerting to find that everything in the hotel shuts on one day a week - why?
